Material things can make your life easier. However, when you are in marriage where you are not respected and loved it is impossible to satified. You can be so lonely is this kind of marriage, dying inside. There are a lot of lonely married people.

@elifbathaje even if he did gave her all the material stuff and more than what she ever dreamed for...that doesn't mean that he made her happy, and in no way is acceptable that he treated her with disrespect and abusively and could get away with it because he had money. That's why men don't understand why their wife/girlfriend is not happy even if they have a house/car/pretty things...if he doesn't show her he loves her...they all mean nothing...

Anytime you let a young man mistreat you, you are stirring up centuries of abuse. Learn how to pick a good, decent young Black man to love you. You have the power. Even though this is a movie and book, Zora Neale Hurston gave you a glimpse into the lives of Black women during this time so this is real.
