  • We need tea cakes on this earth!!!!!

  • Mmm mmm mmm Tea Cake!

  • DAMN he fine!!!!!

  • LAWD JESUS i need me a teacake,where can i find one?lol

  • Wow...even though they don't really convey how trapped Janie is in her marriage they do express her feelings later on. You can see how unhappy and suppressed she must have been seeing as she talks of enjoying her freedom after Joe's passes despite most likely having to take on more responsibilities after his death. Her hair is also a metaphor for freedom. She wears it tightly bound when she's with Joe (after he caught a man admiring it) but lets it hang loose once more after his death.

  • They skipped the part after Jody dies when she looks at herself in the mirror and has a flashback as a girl watching the peer trees. That's one of the most significant parts...

  • "You heard her, you ain't blind!"

    ...what?

  • @PivUHT0107

if u didnt point that out i would never notice! HAHA

  • @PivUHT0107 i think he meant deaf..but hey...that's the 30's :D

  • @TheZo4725lol I know XDD

When I first heard it I was so lost like "He did mean DEAF didn't he? XD

  • Who is singing the song there is a new day coming?

  • 7:57 Janie takes a shit in the pool

  • feeling free , what a whore , she deserved to be with that first old man , who made her work hard .. the fuking Bitch never appreciated what she had

  • cant believe she was being a bitch even when he was dieing ...wtf

  • @03045152525 Actually her attitude is well justified. You don't see it much in the movie but in the book Janie is CONSTANTLY verbally mistreated by Joe later in their marriage. He feels self conscious about his own body and irritated that Janie remains youthful and attractive. He constantly belittled her in front of others. To me he was worse than the first husband. He made her work just as hard but in different ways and suppressed her with his expectations of what a woman should be.

  • @klutzygirl31 i understand where your getting at , but you have to go with the flow , as the rest of the women were , it was a difficult time, everyine worked hard ,

  • 9:10 .....

  • the older and closer he was to dying the bigger dick he was!!!..i woulda been left him

  • How are you going to be an asshole to your wife on your deathbed?

Sorry but I'm glad he died.

  • You gone hit me bitch??? In front of my frens??!! (Kevin hart voice) lmao I wudda kick em n da nutts!

  • what a wicked old fart. Thats what you get in the pursuit of material possessions. He cant even see past his own ego. At least now Janie will be free. Free to find real love.

  • you wanna lay hands on me fine then I 'll leave a scare on you to match and then some

  • This is a good movie

  • the part about the mule was my fav..i was sad to see it didnt make the movie

  • Wow you're about to die and you still act like a dick

  • ohhh lord tea cakeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i likes um dark chocolate but this one here well...uhh i just might reconsider aaahhhhhaaaaaa

  • fuckin Joe. why do women let stupid men hit them like that????????. fight back!!!! i'd have cut his balls off. power to the woman!

  • @hoebag7994 ur name is hoebag..n ur talking bout power to women? pfft.

  • ms janie had a life however controversial to the eyes of people today, of great fortune and love. To have a hard working man who has potential as such her husband is enough to last 3 marriages, its how we see great fortune and how we view respect and loyalty that keeps us happy. the choices made in clarity mean more than what just one is thinking. there arent too mank opportunities of a life as such ms janies today. This is a victory .

  • he wouldhave saw my hair down

right the next day after he slapped the s*** out of me.

    O_O

  • lmao you heard her you aint BLIND wtf dotn he mean deaf 1:46

  • halle berry and michael ealy were phenominal in this movie!!!!!!!!!!!! they SERIOUSLY need to get back together AND they need to do about 50 more movies like this together!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! like this if u agree lol

  • whats that song

  • oh thank god they made a movie and put it on youtube!

the book is so hard to understand and i didn't have time to read chapters 7-9 tonight for Contemporary Literature. Thank You @miaevt!

  • 8:10 daaam that waters clear!

  • god how i wish michael ealy would shave his chest

  • they should have used the line from the book "I oughta BOX YO Jaw, mouthin at me like that" @ around 1:35

  • I was so happy when Janie finally found love. Joe turned into a monster!

  • "id ratha be shot dead before i hear dat bout my self" lmao!!!

  • "id ratha be shot down before i hear dat bout my self" lmao!!!

  • is dat her real hair??

  • i love this movie so much!

did Halle win anything for this?

  • i absolutely loved halle berrys hair when it was all long and curly like that

  • @jaMichaeli54312 but maybe there went any dark skinned actors that could met the criteria. Meaning an excellent actor like Michael ealy. and he is a very gorgeous man. Everybody cant be perfect its a movie, for god sakes lets not make a big deal about color. micheal played the part perfectly

  • @SiberianLeo24 was that meant for beepotent?

  • Now I'm a lite skin, and I read the book, tea cake is suppose to be dark skin. Get it right Oprah. i live all people, I am...Never Ignorant Getting Goals Accomplished, I'm that N.I.G.G.A

  • Normally I'm okay with movies deviating from books. But this whole section with Jody just bothers me... The changes they made took away from the idea of women being the "Mules" of men, and then ultimately Janie breaking free from her abusive husband : \

  • Janie was a woman far ahead of her time.

  • @Akee1990

Yeah, hard to believe that the book was written all the way back in the '30s.

  • 7. ) @elifbathaje Let me guess, you dont see how her relationship with him was abusive SMDH

  • 6. ) @elifbathaje I'm not going to wait till he decides to start treating me right are you crazy ? Do us all a favor dont join any domestic violence hot lines shit those abused women would be in for a life time of hell, listening to your fucked up advice You'd be telling them to " Just be patient, saying : does he buy you nice things? cause if he does, you'll be nothing without him if you leave. just be patient he'll treat you right eventually .

  • 5. ) @elifbathaje My motto is... he's going to treat me right from the start or he's not going to do it at all. Fuck being patient and waiting for his ass to change, if he's gonna change later on down the road then he can do it without me. I'm not going to be with someone who doesn't treat me well right from the very start .. and five years down the road he still better be treating me right and 10 years down the road and so on and so on or i will leave his ass.

  • 4. ) @elifbathaje [ 20 years pass he still hasn't changed ] oh, dont fret, he still needs a little more time to truly treat you right, patients is a virtue didn't you know, you silly goose. What ???? Did you slip and hit your head or are you just retarded. He didn't treat her right, she was a good woman but he was not a good man by any means. A Good man doesn't treat his women like that. I dont care what he pays for

  • 3. ) @elifbathaje Never mind that he's abusive verbally ,physically , emotionally, and mentally, never mind he doesn't allow you to be you, never mind he treats you like a damn slave, never mind he doesn't respect you, never mind he belittles you. Cause he buys you all these great material possessions, that all just really makes it worth while. Dont worry just be patient and never stop giving him your time he'll learn to treat you right sooner or later hang in there .

  • 2. ) @elifbathaje MY COMMENT : Ha, # 1 You say that as if she actually needed a man or someone else to be something. Sorry she may of not had the possessions but she would of been FREE that's worth more than he could of ever given her. And also I guess we should tell all the abused controlled, repressed women out there to just be patient your man loves you, look at all the nice things that he buys you ! You wouldn't have all those things without him, without him you'd be nothing.

  • 1. ) @elifbathaje This is in reference to the comment you made 3 months ago on the movie " Their eyes were watching God " That being said . You are absolutely out of your fuckin mind. You say : But he did care about her,, i mean what would she be without him ! love comes within patience ,, thats true love.

  • @elifbathaje you said : shes soo stupid, that man made her to a good woman, aand this is the thank she gives him while dying ,, what ey bad woman i must say !

MY COMMENT : What ? I hope you was being sarcastic but something tells me you was dead serious. Are we watching the same damn movie ? He didn't make her into a good woman she was a good woman before him. He made her into an obedient servant that had to suppress who she really was to be with him how is that making her into a good women?

  • 4. ) He was a selfish, jealous , possessive , abusive fuck. that was not love it was ownership dont get the 2 confused people. Even on his death bed he didn't have a kind word for her. Trying to play the damn victim, please victim my ass, his last words were wishing she got struck by lightening my lord are you serious, what and ass hole he was.

  • @BiracialGirl1977 Take it easy,, Im not saying he's perfect and all,, sure he treats her bad and stuff i mean a man should indeed treat he's woman as a woman and with great respekt !! but look at thoose times,, i mean black people where treated like slaves so they all had hard times ! I dunno,, I just feel that its them both faulls it didnt work out ! she wasnt the perfect woman eather,, no one is perfect ,, u can't only blame one ! meybe he treated her like that 'couse he didnt trust her ?

  • 3. ) Even the house slaves back in the day had fancy hand me downs but they were still slaves and owned just like the field slave were. Him buying her everything she wanted is not love he treated her like human property and she for the most part behaved like his human property.

  • 2. ) Talking about he gave her everything she wanted, yeah, right, material possessions is not all she wanted what she wanted most was his love and to be herself she didn't get his love ( if he was ever really even capable of it )and he wouldn't allow her to be herself. He became the Master and she became his slave.

  • 1. ) I'm sorry , but the moment he said I'm dieing I would of been like " Really ? Oh goodie, can I watch ? and the moment he died I would of been jumping up and down calling everyone over to celebrate. " Whhooooaa whoooo thank you lord I'm free, I'm free, thank god almighty I'm free at last .

  • Michael Ealy is one fine man, but Tea Cake is supposed to be dark chocolate not milk chocolate. Oh well, movies are always different than the book.

  • Joe treat Janie as his possession. lol

  • Joe treat Janie as his possession. whatda

  • "I hope thunder and lightening kill you"....dam shame he said that to her on his sick bed. Real good and godly man?

  • men like him do not deserve love She should have stayed with the first man atlest she had respect

  • @dedrawilliams that first man was ugly as fuck. no homo

  • Comment removed

  • that damnn michael ealy !! the things i would do to him <3

  • @kamariai understand that honey! and @caramella831 i second that michael ealy is fyne!

  • terrance howard and michael ealy - yumz

  • my goodness he is sooooo sexy

  • @elifbathaje

Material things can make your life easier. However, when you are in marriage where you are not respected and loved it is impossible to satified. You can be so lonely is this kind of marriage, dying inside. There are a lot of lonely married people.

  • @elifbathaje even if he did gave her all the material stuff and more than what she ever dreamed for...that doesn't mean that he made her happy, and in no way is acceptable that he treated her with disrespect and abusively and could get away with it because he had money. That's why men don't understand why their wife/girlfriend is not happy even if they have a house/car/pretty things...if he doesn't show her he loves her...they all mean nothing...

  • 1:54 Oh no he din't.

  • ROFLMAO....when she tells him if he ain't packin down there, one of the guys on the porch says, "I rather be shot dead than hear that about my own self." Don't be mad and hit Halle for your shortcomings, get some EXTENZE, that should help.

  • U would kill em' him dead if he put a hand on me!

  • what's the song at 7:05?

  • Goooooood Lawd.... I would have ran off with a man that fine too....

  • in the book isnt Tea Cake supposed to be darker?because that had to do with part of their relationship being wrong right?cuz darker skinned was more frowned upon than lighter skinned

  • @SkySkyJ You are so right. Who ever made this movie messed up a lot of stuff.

  • @SkySkyJ Lol, noooooo. The fuss was him being much younger than him. Her husband the Mayor was a dark skinned fella. So the townspeople weren't seeing her and Tea Cake as wrong because of his skin tone

  • 3:33

  • joe was ashame ...she got to his pride and ego ..... he had no right to hit her......... i cant stand him ...black women take to much shit

  • 3:33

  • Reached back like a pimp and slapped a ho!

  • from age 17 to age 38, she wasted 21 years

  • @Luvsingin202 she didn't waste her life. All that she went through was necessary for her to be the strong, independent women she became. She needed to go through all those developmental stages to finally meet the right man and discover who she truly was.

  • @Thunderhorse8969 well of course but im just focusing on calling him a waste

  • i wouldve ended his life myself..he eva talk to me like dat

  • Look at how Halle cheking that fine ass out!!!!

  • he is such a dog JOE!!!

  • The part when they are fussing is too funny. "You ways past 50." LOL

And see, God don't like ugly...that's why he died right after he said those last words to her. lol

  • lmao big fat belly you got

  • I wonder if she would have had the courage to leave Joe had he not died..

  • those people watching her get iked in the middle of the street are just as guilty as joe not standing up to that kind of mess.. smh

  • You have to understand the time that they were in. It was a normal thing back then and no one was going to get into another man's business with his wife.

  • this is great!

  • Michael Ealy with his fine ass.

  • Michael Ealy.....sexy

  • umm yeah :)

  • This is my favorite book of all times.....its sooo touching and i can just feel the ups and downs janie indured

  • I need every young Black woman (under 30) to understand something. Black women have been through hell and high water so we don't have to. Anytime you let a young man mistreat you, you are stirring up centuries of abuse. Learn how to pick a good, decent young Black man to love you. You have the power. Even though this is a movie and book, Zora Neale Hurston gave you a glimpse into the lives of Black women during this time so this is real.

  • @Kamaria7 thanks for the advice.

  • @Kamaria7 Your words are simple minded and ignorant. "Find a good man." What about "strive to be a good woman." Always talking about what someone else is supposed to do to please you. Look at how this man gave her everything and the focus of Huston's book talks bad about him. Why doesn't Halle just go start the 2nd Black town in America? Cause, finally, women ain't shit. That's why America is broken, because women have become public toilets, "girls men use for their pleasure..."
