I lived on Fordham Rd. and University Ave. and I would regularly visit Inwood Hill Park, especially during autumn. Also, my best friend live in 100 Park Terrace, the red building adjacent to Bakersfield. Pleasant slideshow.
i grew up at 65 Park Terrace west and 97 Park terrace, played football in Ishman Park went to GSS played hundreds of hours of BBall in Inwood with Janey and many others, I left in 1974 before it got bad. Shopped at Murrays on 218, hung out in G's candy store. drank beer in the park at the log and graduated to the flagpole. Made fires in cans to keep warm in the winter when we hung out. oh yea , in the 60's the pizza haven was to die for pizza . ity cost a quarter.. I loved growing up here!
G's, right next to rays barber shop, he's been cutting my hair my entire life, only person i trust with my hair. inwood born and raised, granted im only 18 but i was growing up there before it started to boom with real estate and all that. pizza haven is great, grandpas opened a few years ago and is really good to. beers in isham park is always great to
I loved growing up in Inwood. It was such a small town in a huge city, G's , Pizza Haven, Murrays , Indian Road, Jonsey's Deli on 207th Basketball all the time! I lived here from 1957-1975
Terrific! I lived at 55 Park Terrace East frm about early 1950's until mid 1960's. Great place to grow up. We had a football "team" called the Park Terrace Terriers.
I remember Genie O'Neil, Ricky Luna, Mike Fitzer, Stu Brooks, Richie Ahrens, Paul Greenberg, Linda Sherer, Sandy DeKovnick, Alana DeKovnick and on and on. Sorry to ramble.
murders in the 80s and 90s thats what i remember.Masses in spanish for people who refuse to learn english.shame on good shepard church for catering to these foreigners.plenty of dominican and pr flags on vermilyea hardly any american.SHAMEFUL.YOU RUINED MY AREA.
Born and raised in this wonderful neighborhood. My parents moved there in 1936 and I was born in 1941. I grew up in with the woods as my playground. Fished and crabbed in the Harlem River, explored the caves, climbed rocks, remember the Native Americans retuning each year in the summer. Went to 98,52,GW. Worked for the Yacht Basin Pharmacy, Murray's Market and the Baker Field Cleaners at Indian Road, played curb and stick ball, flipped cards, traded comics and had an extraordinary childhood.
I grew up in Inwood as other's of you did too. In the late 40's/early 50's a radio add for Maxwell House Coffee stated, "A better coffee a Rockefeller's money can't buy". In my opinion, a better neighborhood than Inwood a Rockefeller's money couldn't buy ! I lived at 5025 B'way, went to PS 98, JHS 52, & G'Dubs. Later I began an INWOOD DRINKING LEGEND, that I've carried over to Las Vegas, Nevada, where all drinks are FREE, 24/7/365, yet I'd give it all up to be a kid again in Inwood. Jack G.
East of Bwy has always been the poorer section of Inwood. This goes back to the 20s.
People moved to the burbs to climb stairs to go to bed. Not just in Inwood but all across the US: Detroit, Chicago, LA, etc. It is one of the sad story of great cities in our nation. Good question.
I lived in park Terrace West, played little league, went to GSS class79,got chased by the PINKIES at Columbia.I love Inwood i wish i could go back in time and do it again.
Grew up in the 'projects' @ Dyckman. Highbridge, Ft. Tryon, Payson & Inwood Hill made 'city life' feel country. I loved it and still do. '56-'07 Come & gone but came back. Great clip.
My parents moved into 10 Park Terrace East in 1935 when I was 1 year old and we lived there til '56. Loved it! Went to P.S.98, JHS 52 & H.S. Music & Art. I count myself so lucky to have grown up in this wonderful area. It's hardly changed - thank goodness!
