"The scriptures however, were not written so we would change them to adapt them to ever changing cultural norms." But they have been changed. Many times.
Mike Huckabee is such a hypocritical dumbass. He claims that everyone is equal, yet he says that gays do not have the right to marry. Equality my ass. I hope this guy never holds any political office ever again. We have enough phony Christians going around creating a shitstorm as it is.
MY question: why does a man of God such as Huckabee work for an organization (Fox News) that is funded by terrorist Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf, and whose biggest draw (Glenn Beck) follows the Mormon cult? A Mormon is no more Christian than a MUSLIM is. I have serious issues with the company Mr. Huckabee is keeping...
Huckabee says, at 3:38, that "the genious and the brilliance of [the Constituion] was that it was intended to be amended. That's why African Americans are considered people, because we amended the Constitution".
Just imagine... if the US Constitution was not amendable, in Huckabee's mind black people today would apparently not be people!
I can't believe the interviewer was so caught up in getting an answer to his original question that he totally let that statement slip by!
I don't agree with Huckabee, but I don't get your point here. Huckabee said that blacks are legally considered to be people because of the fourteenth amendment, and he's right. Before that amendment passed, there was no clear definition of a person. Most blacks were slaves and didn't have rights.
The Treaty of Tripoli, Article 11. There is no chance of misinterpretation of what the Founding Fathers believed in settling this country. This idiot, this theocrat (synonyms in my eyes) Huckabee has little clue what he is talking about. The first sentence of Article 11 of the treaty reads "As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion." If everyone is equal, Mike, no one man has the right to tell anyone whom they can/can't marry.
The federal government has for a long time researched scenarios in which they can dismantle the constitution by public outcry. In the most positive scenario, officials allowed certain events to take place in our recent history which led the citizens to agree, and even ask for important staples of the constitution to be void.
"He who gives up freedom for safety deserves neither and loses both" -Ben Franklin
The constitution was never intended to restrain the citizens. It is clearly, and was always intended to restrain the governments powers against the citizens, and abroad. There will always be tough issues in which some citizens may feel limited in power assured by the constitution, but visualize the gain over the loss. We have to stop letting them treat the constitution as a play thing. They are already abandoning its principles in secret. The Constitution was made to prevent tyranny.
while governor of arkansas this man raised taxes and spent money on the types of beneficiary programs he now feels fit to trash. seems to me that throwing red meat to the base wasn't very effective. thank not-god!
i don't know how these politcos can wake up in the morning knowing that they have to tell millions of people shit they themselves don't believe in...
I agree McCain is not much better than Huckaphony, but I honestly think the Repubs have a chance if this Democratic primary keeps going the way it is. Barack will win in the end, and hopefully people will see him for the deceiving socialist he is (given his connections to Rev. Wright and that terrorist).
There is still hope. McCain needs a TRUE conservative VP for starters...
He is ridiculous, the Constitution and the Bill of Rights are perfect. Its outline of Government involvement reflects perfectly the role that God currently plays in our lives according to the Bible. The Federal Government has no business saving souls, that is up to professing Christians and the Holy Spirit according to the bible. The Federal Government has no place defining how lives are lived, and the States are the only powers that have that authority Constitutionally.
I can't stand Huckabee. He gives such politician answers. He can't fucking respond with anything of substance and instead gives obviously rehearsed phrases. Who do these people think they are fooling? Or is America stupid enough that they don't see through the paper thin answers?
Obviously the general population will buy anything the media spoon feeds them. The current Republican candidates have me sick. I was really let down by the Party voters when they let the only TRUE conservative fall out. Now all that's left is a RINO and someone I don't know if I can trust to hold to conservative values...
@whw5 I think we are just constantly forced to chose from worse and worse canedates. It hardly matters who wins anymore if you ask me, theyre all bought by the same people.
Huckabee says: "there is no such thing as a life unworthy to be lived."
Bible says: "If a man has sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They are to be put to death."
"The Scriptures" is just a translation of the Torah. and, sorry to brake it to you but they where alter during translation. Also, If you cant ad on to "Scriptures" why is there a NEW testiment?
In every country and in every age, the priest has been hostile to liberty. He is always in alliance with the despot, abetting his abuses in return for protection for his own. It is easier to acquire wealth and power by this combination than by deserving them, and to effect this, they have perverted the purest religion ever preached to man into mystery and jargon, unintelligible to all mankind, and therefore the safer engine for their purpose.--Thomas Jefferson
I need a good secular reason to support a gay marriage ban. I have yet to hear one. If anything, it is more conservative to invite homosexual couples into an institution of social responsibility and the legal contract of monogamy.
We have changed the Constitution many times. One famous change, called 13th amendment freed the slaves in America and gave everyone the same rights in America. They thought Abe Lincoln was crazy for that. He wasn't though was he?
Some changes are needed! The genocide of billions of human babies is wrong. We are leading the world in baby executions. It is time folks.
I'd like to see the 16th and 17th Amendments repealed. No income tax, and the US Senators need to be selected by the governors and state legislatures again.
Also the part of the 14th Amendment that declares anyone born here is a citizen needs to be taken out. No more anchor babies!
We have altered the Constitution before for the better. Amendments are alterations to the Constitution. One famous one, the 13th amendment set slaves free. Abraham Lincoln was considered radical for doing such a thing. Mike Huckabee wants to stop the genocide of billions of little human babies.
Wow, Mike does not stumble. What a great man of honor!
Mike doesn't stumble? Toward the end of this interview (I don't want to look again) he just starts rambling and visibly loses himself in midsentence, but continues to ramble until he believes he may have uttered something to move the conversation forward.
Let's chuck out the 1st and 2nd Amendment, too since they are so polarizing. In fact why not just have a fucking theocracy like Iran? America is great for a reason and belief in a Sky Father is not that reason.
Nobody is going to impose the Bible or religion on you. However, we have a spiritual underpinning in our gov't....you can believe what you want but the majority has sway.
My spirituality leads me to believe that unborn life needs to be protected and marriage is a between one man and one woman.
'My spirituality leads me to believe....'? How about my rationality leads me to believe, my critical faculty leads me to believe, my reason leads me to believe! For example, science teaches us now that homosexuality is biologically determined for some people. Therefore, as a society, we should overcome petty, inborn prejudices and create a society which includes these people.
We were given the right to have a spiritual underpinning in our gov't. The Founders believed in God...but not establishing a religion. Atheism, Naturalism, Secularism are also forms of a personal spirituality...and people have the right to believe and exercise these beliefs. I love that Mike stands for his personal spirituality...it's what makes us 'a more perfect union' as we debate and move forward as a country.
My values are very similar to Mike's and I hope with persuasion that more Americans will see the need for a strong moral society, that is grounded in the spiritual attributes to the best of our personal and therefore collective understanding.
If you do not have the intellect to make such a simple deduction, and instead, you have to rely on basic intuitions (what you call 'spirituality'), then, I'm sorry, but you shouldn't feel qualified to vote.
