Thank you for posting this. My 26 year old welsh gelding just started having what I am guessing to be seizures. We are going to get blood work, but it helps to see a similar event in another and to know that it does occur. Peaches seizures look much like my gelding's.
@Punisher3678 I am being calm. I have to speak over the horse because my daughter is up in the rafters. I was very calm. The camera is cheap and the microphone is right next to me so it sounds louder than it really should. My daughter was very scared, but I was calm and just trying to help her get thru this tramatic episode. She had never seen this horse have a seizure before. I believe I did the best I could. Thanks for stopping by.
We have figured out that Peaches has her seizures around the same time each month which coensides with her heats. Has anybody ever heard of such a thing? I also want to thank all of those people again who come on here and leave me such wonderful notes! Its nice to see people opening up and sharing! Thanks for your info and for coming to watch this video! All of your info has been a tremendous help!
At the place I used to work at, we had a foal with seizures, and the vet said that it was due to brain swelling, or something in the central nervous system. He gave her fluids (DMSO and I think Dextrose) and she got better. It's definitely scary to watch, that's for sure! I would definitely take down that board though, looks like she almost broke her neck when she was stuck!
@Radothehorse I have taken to board down since this happened. We had the board there to prevent our blind appy mare from going thru that hole. We have had to put the appy mare down recently so it makes things a little easier to make safer for Peaches! Thanks for stopping by and for sharing info.
That is so sad, makes you want to go hug her to make her feel better. My mom's little poodle used to have seizures and we would wrap her in a big hug to help her feel safe, can't really do that for a horse safely. I commend you for keeping her and trying to get her help, that can be a very dangerous situation for your family, but someone must take care of our special needs friends. We had the good fortune to buy a blind mare years ago and she helped teach us many lessons in patience.
@magnoliaqp1 When she goes into a seizure I wait until I know it is truly over then she does get a great big hug and I wipe her tears away and tell her that she is okay. Peaches is very well loved here and we cherish every waking moment with her. Thanks for your kind words and thanks for stopping by!
I'm so sorry, for one it must be scarier to watch this in person. Have you thought about emailing or contacting your nearest large vet college? They may be able to you her as a 'test subject' free of charge or very low cost. I hope you can find out what is wrong with her and something to help her out.
@ClydeLover1051 Thank you for your concern. It is very scary and no matter how many times you see her have one it doesn't get any easier. We did contact our nearest Large Vet hospital, BUT they are still going to charge us $3000.00 to have her looked at and we are a very poor stable. We do the best we can. She does not have siezures all the time. Most she will have is 2 or three a month so we are doing the best we can. Thanks for stopping by!
I have seen many of these before but never in a horse, it is.... terrifying! I can only imagine how I would feel if it were one of my babies! have you thought about doing a fundraiser to be able to do the cat scans and MRIs? there are a lot of rescues or other riding facilities who would be willing to help you put on a fundraiser to be able to help her!
@TheCrazyHorseLady Thank you for stopping by! And yes we did contact a large vet hospital and it will cost us $3000 to have all her work done and then gas too. She doesn't have many of them maybe 2 or 3 a month so it is a real debate game whether we will bring her or not. For now we are studing this more and keeping a very close eye on her. Thanks again!
Remember folks! Before you make a comment on someone's video you should read the other comments because the majority of time your questions will be answered. So again! I was not talking to the horse I was trying to calm my daughter down who was stuck in the rafters scared to death. She was safe and I had to video tape this for our vet so he could see the severity of her siezure. These are rare in horses and we love Peaches very much! We are doing the best we can to keep her safe and happy!
@misskarabella This event was the first time my daughter saw a seizure in any type of being. She was scared to death because she couldn't get out of the barn, but she managed to stay up in the rafters. Peaches is fine and she doesn't have seizures very often but they are very scarey to watch. Thank you for stopping by!
why are so many people talking shit. I bet have of you dont even own a fucking horse. There is nothing you can do if something is having a seizure. the most you can do is make sure they dont hurt them selfs.
@SuperShit411 If you would have taken the time to read the other comments you would have seen that I wasn't talking to the horse, but to my daughter who was scared to death. And if you don't like the noise then you can always turn the volume down. And yes I do have a horse and a manager to this farm and any creature who is having a seizure CAN hear you when you speak to them.
That was indeed hard to watch. I've seen many, many seizures in animals in my day, but none involving a horse. I assume your vet has ruled out epilepsy and pinched nerves, yes? In any event, best of luck in finding out the problem. Must be heart-wrenching.
@RBNightlinger We can't find anythink out right now because the cat scans and mri's aren the thousands of dollars and her seizures are not happening on a regular basis to put her on medication. But we are trying to do as much research as we can and are trying to keep her comfortable to ease her episodes. Thanks for stopping by!
@FrazzleAndTheWolf I wasn't talking to my daughter who was hiding up in the rafters screaming for me to help her. You can't hear in the video because she was to far away. She was just really scared and I was trying to comfort her, not the horse. Thanks for stopping by!
Folks When you watch this video and you hear me speaking. Remember that I am VERY close to the little microphone and my voice sounds louder than it really is. I was trying to console and calm my daughter down who is up in the rafters scared to death. As you can see in the video I have no way to get to her and that she was the safest person in the barn. I put this video on here to get advice and help from other people with this problem.
@MsJujubees98 If you watch the video again and pay attention. You will notice that I'm NOT yelling at the horse nor am I yelling at all. What is going on is that my daughter was scared to death and up in the rafters of the barn. You can't see her, but CAN hear her faintly. I had no way to get to my daughter while Peaches was having her siezure. Please take the time out to figure out what is going on in the video before you make comments like this. Sorry it upset you so much.
My mare has seizures & the vet said she could have a brain tumor, elepsy, or something wrong with her diet. He recommended purina senior and she isnt a senior sooo ya
I have a horse w/ seizures. We did bloodwork, 24 hr video and spinal tap. I too opted not to have a CT. She was diagnosed with epilepsy. She is on Phenobarbital to manage the seizures. Hope this helps and good luck.
We are presently working with a vet to figure it out. There is no medicine for her because we can't pinpoint what or how it happened. We can do MRI's and Cat Scans but it will cost thousands to do, which we don't have. We are trying to give her the best life we possibly can. We changed her grain and that has helped. With Patience and kindness we have been able to decrease the mulititude of seizures.
Does the horse have epilepsy?
