I'm not going to get sucked in on this one. I'll pick up the next issue of FINAL CRISIS (none of the 'Sightings' books) and decide if I will stick around.
SECRET INVASION is so much better. I'm going back and picking up stuff like SECRET WARS to see what I have missed. Makes me wish I had been buying CIVIL WARS rather then the DC books.
Sadly I'm stupid and I like it when I hand over large sums of money to companies so I'll be buying lots of the filler issues. I've been thinking of joining CAA (Comic-book addicts anonymous.)
Thank you for saying that about Cap, I've been wondering why they keep using him after he's dead. Right now there's Captain America with the 1950s clone, and Avengers/Invaders miniseries and Secret Invasion. It like since Cap death he's been used more than any other character.
I expect Cap will be showing up over in MARVEL 1985, at least you see him on the cover of the first issue. I do recommend that book by the way, perfect childhood fantasy come true kind of thing.
mna i cant say this enough final crisis blows hard and secret invasions great but i do feel obligated to pick upfinanl crisis even thuogh i have no clue wtf is going on
I don't know that it blows, but I am totally lost like Madclan says. Did I really spend all that time and money on 52 & COUNTDOWN to have DC wave the middle finger in my face?
well thats what i mean your pumped with all this over hyped event with all crappy stories leading up to the first issue that leaves you saying wtf happend what was all that i was reading and whats this crap
52 was a great series and it ties with infinite not final... I didn't stick around much for Countdown cause of: money, story, didn't feel like 52 and I wasn't sure making a weekly would do wonders again. I agree that sometimes DC gives out a WTFing hell to you but I think I know where FC is going so I'm sticking.
totally agree, dc right now is just not as good as marvel with consistently good books. final crisis is a book you basically have to buy, ah well, trinity is coming out this week, so hopefully that is solid. they have been putting out good batman stories, thats about it.
I can't agree more with you on FC. I read all the Countdown stuff, even Lord Havok, and it's on where in this this. We should have been introduced to more of the Monitors in CD. The thing that threw me is that Superman was in Death of the New Gods and doesn't seem to know it. And the way the 'death' was played sucked. I was a disappointed in issue 1.
PS Question. The Dark Side Club is showing up in alot of this and last weeks books. Does that mean that Morrison's Seven Soldiers thing happens during Final Crisis?
Yet another consistency issue that they have yet to answer. I believe that the answer is no, but I'm really not sure. It wasn't bad enough that we have all those 'Sightings' issues but now the Dark Side Club banners as well. Watch your wallets DC is going after everything you have.
Here's the difference between Marvel and DC: DC puts out books with tons of hype, and lots of "Oh Shit" moments because they'll sell a lot of books right away. But eventually, all those same moments get ignored to make room for the new publicity stunts, IE Countdown. Marvel on the other hand plans out how each crossover is going to affect the next one years in advance. They reward the reader for their loyalty. It's a hook to go buy the back issues you missed, which helps your local comic shop.
Here's an example: Read New Avengers #14 (Feb '06). There's a scene where Spider-Woman is talking to her Hydra contact, giving out SHIELD secrets (cause she's a double agent). The guy from Hydra is seen saying, "Keep talking. What does this caterpillar file contain?" Now read Mighty Avengers #13 (July '08). Nick Fury is going through his caterpillar file finding as of yet unknown heroes to fight the skrulls. If you read the old issue, you'd know that Hydra probably already knows about them.
Plus Spider-Woman is secretly the skrull empress, but we don't know when that switch was made. So it's possible the skrulls already know about Fury's secret team as well.
My point is that Marvel plans this stuff out. I regret buying all of Countdown just so it would get ignored by DC editorial, when I could have been buying more Avengers and have a deeper insight into what might happen in the future.
I agree with this. I hate the fact I wasted so much money on CD and all sorts of tie-ins. It's disappointing and very disheartening. I am a big DC fan but more and more I find myself reading Marvel books and enjoying them a great deal more.
What a time to read, but what a terrible time to get back. I enjoyed Countdown for the most part when I got it; of course there was the terrible issues which I think is inherent in any weekly story, BUT to spend my money for a year and then be told 'meh, whatever' is insulting and annoying.
See for the most part I disagree, and I think if we all look back on the House of M series we can see that Marvel doesn't always have their act together. House of M was one of the worst series ever. Poorly conceived, poorly written, and very poorly received. Now it did set up Civil War BUT it still was not put together well. At the same time as House of M Infinite Crisis came out; A series that was well thought out and well structured. Marvel and DC have just switched organization teams.
good review. At first I thought (oh, this is a DC guy), but you gave a good take on Final Crisis. I'm not exaggerating....I think Final Crisis # 1 sucked. I actually loved House of M, Civil War, and I'm equally blown away by Secret Invasion. Reading Final Crisis # 1 is like walking in on your wife with another man. It's shocking and it sucks
I agree about the use of Cap for dramatic effect. But that Cap in the Savage Land is totally a Skrull. So the last page of New Avengers wasn't so much, "It's Cap!" as it was, "Crap! The skrulls found Spidey and Kazar!" I find it hard to buy that the heroes are actually thinking that any of these people are legit.
I've been hearing a lot as well that Final Crisis is just WAY too confusing in the first issue. I also agree with you on the Captain America thing. What there is like 3 different Caps running around now. give it a rest Marvel. Either, A) have him stay dead completely or B) Bring him back completely.
I personally enjoy Bucky as Cap but that's just me. Anyway great Vid and see ya next time.
I hope Steve Rogers stays dead for a very long time. I can only hope that Joe Q remembers his own words when he said that bringing him back would diminish the effects of Civil War. I'm not a huge fan of Bucky yet, but I think he'll continue to grow on me.
they're making a game called MK vs. DCU. WTF! how does the mortal kombat world collide with comics! Well, the final crisis comic book, i might get. it's like i wanna get it, but not as much as the others i might buy this week.
I saw that MK vs. DC thing. I'm really not sure where the idea came up, but hopefully (despite the fact that it makes NO sense) it might be fun to brutally beat-up some of these characters...to bad we will not be able to beat up writers or editors-in-chiefs. :)
I had no interest, before, but now, I MUST read COUNTDOWN.

Minor nerdy quip: did I hear you call the Savage Land an "island" (3:08)? It's in Antarctica. Oops.
Are you going to review 1985?

I mean it more as a metaphorical..you know traped with nowhere to go.
I haven't decided about 1985 yet.

Haha, nice party analogy, makes sense! "No body, no death" should be a rule for every character death in a comic!
I really want to get into the Batman going "insane" storyline, so I shall be picking up 672-677, to get all this Black Glove stuff :D
Thanks for the great reviews, as usual :)

Thanks for watching.

does this question have anything to do with boss dark side and the club?

I have generally been a DC over Marvel buyer, except for the period when the Stan, Jack, Steve & the original Bullpen were creating everything.
I didn't buy any comics for almost three years and feel jerked around that I started with COUNTDOWN, although I was mostly enjoying it at the time.
