  • Great vid. Thanks

  • cool i need 1 of those

  • does the cube compressor tool work with both rear and front brakes?

  • @AnhYeuEm1992 They work on small diameter spiral calipers. If it's front or rear is irrelevant, but MOST spiral pistons are on the rear to serve a rear emergency brake.

  • i almost set my car on fire and punched a nearby baby it had me so mad, then i learned about spiral pistons.....

  • @gwarbo lol I'm glad the baby is ok.

  • great information

  • @anamoo007 Thanks

  • Thanks dude,...after a few bloody knuckles and choice words this makes sense.

I found a Cube at O'Reilly's for 13 bucks,......The description and part number are below. Lisle - Disc Brake Piston Tool

    Part Number: 28600

  • Great video. I've heard of spiral calipers but never had to compress one. I need to do this for my 2010 Chrysler town and country. Thanks for the info.

  • @dg5fender You're welcome!

  • it 9:40 pm, raining and were still trying to change our brakes! Had to drag my bf inside to watch your vid, Hope it works. Thanks a mill man!

  • @Cassavetes24 You're most welcome! Hope you get it done safe and don't freeze. Good luck!

  • thanks fo rthe vid i was having trubal on my mustang gt to push it back in i was about to just brak it off nd buy a new one thanks for showing me how

  • @OLIVASXIII You're most welcome!

  • Wow, HUGE help man I was losin my mind and daylight tryin to get the piston in, never encountered these fancy new beasts before my 09 Malibu. I was lucky enough to be able to do it easily with a pair of needle nose pliers. So easily in fact that I was downright mad at myself for not looking into it as soon as the clamp didn't work. Now I'm going back out to do the other side in the dark as penance.

  • @Dukkake Glad this helped you out. Live and learn huh?

  • hey, cheers for the info! What should I search for when I want one of these dices? I've just been turning my civic rear caliper with a flat blade for a long time... Any info would be useful, thanks

  • @alanrigalan OTC 4589 Disc Brake Piston Tool OTC4589

  • whoa man how did this work????? :O

  • @JohnnyAndWayneShow Clockwise my friend.

  • Thanks for posting vid bro..I was working on my 2006 Mazda 6 and noticed it wouldn't go in with the c clamp..didn't know that ....your Awesome!!!!!!!!!!

  • @riostevenson Yes I am. And you're welcome. You're awesome for finding the answer you needed to get the job done!

  • When I place the 6-sided dice in the caliper it will not turn because it does not have room. Is there another way to place the dice in to compress it? In other words the caliper is not compressed enough to place the 6-sided dice in with enough to turn it....Any suggestions? Thanks in advance

  • @tremaine615 Needle nose pliers

  • Awesome Vid!! i have a dice but have yet to use it lol

  • hey whats up man , i have an issue with how much it would cost for a reasonable mobile mechanic type to replace my calipers, because i have new brake pads on back but hear a loud squeeling noise when i steer to the right coming from back also a oxidated type squeel when i back up in reverse out of a lot, could it be a sticking caliper?? n would i have to replace both sides on the back if only one has the issue? last but not least is a scraping noise the old rodors? thank you

  • @badado Is this on your 2007 F-350 diesel?

  • Thank you!! I wish I saw this before I attempted to replace my pads. I was all ready to go to a mechanic with my tail between my legs and ask them to install the pads I already bought. I ordered the tool and I will be able to do it my self. You presented this very well.

  • @celemonster You're welcome. It's interesting to me how much gratitude is expressed for this video and how few views it gets when compared to other vids I've made. Life is funny that way.

  • Thanks I just ordered my dice !!!

  • @WHISKEYTANGOS4L You're welcome. You'll love it!

  • Bravo! Thanks.

  • Thanks this was so very helpful, I tried the C-Clamp and you're right it didn't work at all!!!

  • @want2no2 You're welcome. Knowledge is power just like money, propaganda, and guns.

  • hey man,do you know if rear break pistons have to be screwed in on every car? i have a 98 magna and it has no places on the pistons for the qube tool you used..its just round like the front ones..im thinking they're the same as the front and can just be pushed in but i don't know for shure and dont want to try untill someone tells me

  • @stickeyontheendtype MOST cars don't have to have the rear caliper screwed in.

  • @briansmobile1 thanks for your reply much appreciated

  • @stickeyontheendtype You're welcome. Helping people makes me feel good. (when I have time)

  • my question is can either side; the driver and/or passenger side be screwed in clock wise or counter clock wise? does it matter? thanks in advance

  • @poblopuablo99 Both most always go in clockwise.

  • Very good explanation

  • @MrRlewis123 Thank you- you're very kind. ; )

  • @mrsynauto if I wasn't screwed over by so many mechanics in my life I probably wouldn't be online looking up repairs. @briansmobile1 U da man!!!

  • @steve64112 Thanks. Mechanics get hosed by Shop owners, Dealerships, and by customers too. I get shorted all the time by cheap demanding customers. It's just harder when you don't know what's going on. Like if you go to the dentist and he says you have a cavity. You can't see that. You just have to believe him. That's tough. On the whole though MOST people are good and honest and I'm WAY glad for that!

  • Briansmobile1 Great video. My question is what if the piston does not pop free from the rubber?

  • Well done. well done. Excellent video.

  • I have a 2005 ford 500 and have been told the pistons have to be screwed back in. I bought one of those multi cube devices to get them back in but the wont go back in. I can turn them with the tool but they dont seem to want to go in. I have to admit that I inadvertently pushed the brake pedal which proably caused them to extend. Any suggestions? Should i go through the trouble and rent one of those tool kits?

  • @lawman1989 You have to apply firm pressure at the same time so the threads will take. The kit makes that easier, but you don't have to have it.

  • @briansmobile1 Thanks I actually has a friend that one of the kit tools and got them both in. One piston was so far out the tool would not fit inside the caliper but with two people we were able to use the cube tool to get it back enought o switch to the other tool.

  • @lawman1989 way to get it done. Things rarely go exactly by the book. That's when individual and collective ingenuity really make the winning difference. Well done sir.

  • @lawman1989 sometimes you have to turn it as u push in, but you gotta push pretty hard

  • you are killing the trade by telling people how to fix there cars

  • @MrSynauto I appreciate you telling me this. I find however that by making cars work properly people are able to make "their" cars safer on the road and run cleaner for less money while at the same time becoming empowered instead of being just a bunch of helpless dependent "sheeple". Technology is advancing (as well it should) and there is more demand for good skilled technicians now than ever before. Many of my subscribers are such technicians. Book suggestion "Who Moved My Cheese?" = )

  • @MrSynauto Fuck the trade! We need to empower people in all facets of life so that they don't have to depend on anyone to do anything for them at an inflated price!

  • @whole27 The smarter everyone is around you- the better your quality of life is. ; )

  • @MrSynauto tbh, this isnt exactly the hardest kit to use in the world, im only watching to see which one is worth gettin.. but im in the trade, i dont think 31,000 odd people are going to go out and do this..

  • @gt4driftster I have customers wait 6 months driving a car that's metal on metal till the rotor vents sieze up on the caliper because they're dead broke. I'd rather they learn to do it and be safe if they can't pay me to do it.

  • @gt4driftster if u were really in the trade u would know what tools to buy....

  • @MrSynauto if you actually READ my comment, i said WHICH ONE IS WORTH GETTIN, not "what does this do?".. its called planning ahead and seein what you will make the most of. (Y)

  • @MrSynauto Why, so they can mark up the price so we can barely afford to pay for the rapairs anyway? As long as it is done the proper way and does not pose any safety risk to yourself or others then it is not a problem.

  • Omg dude. Thank u do muchhhh. U honestly saved me alot of money. I thought my calibers were frozen. But now I see that u gotta loosen them. Thanks man

  • @1thisbeme23 ha ha - you're welcome.

  • Thank you so much, your video is systematic, easy to follow, really helpful. my first time to fix/replace my brake pads. it was easy to follow, I eventually saved a lot of cash ;-)

  • @Sungura44 You're welcome. Thanks for the comment.

  • Thank you so much! I was about to go out and buy new calipers today because i thought they were seized! Thank you so much!

  • @enjoicody You're very welcome. Thanks for letting me know this helped you!

  • Brian, I can't thank you enough for think of and taking the time to make and post this video. I was at the rear caliper on my xB with the second C clamp in 90+ heat. Before I cussed, I wiped out my iphone and googled. You came up number 1 or 2 hit. Watched the video and was in the car to my local Auto Zone in under 5 minutes! You Rock!!! I am subscribing to your videos.

  • @Raptorlouiszee OH SNAP! I love being of service like that. Thanks for letting me know this made a difference. You're awesome!

  • thanks very informative...

  • bro u saved my life nd $ lol i have a 95 nissan maxima i thought the calipers had gona ba because they would not go back with the clamp! thanks bro!

  • @xxputlecoxx You my friend..... are welcome.

  • Just about spent $130 on new calipers... Wheew! So glad I saw this video!!

  • so Auto Zone should have it?

  • @MsMlarrea I've seen them there last year. Haven't looked this year.

  • very helpful video. I usually rent the caliper kit for $60 bucks from Auto Zone. But it seems that the dice is easier to handle. Where do i get a dice like that?

    Thanks

  • @MsMlarrea They're available most everywhere.

  • Very usefull

I have changed rear brakes but never on one that turns

    Thank you

    Ray

  • @8931831 You're welcome- glad I could help!

  • Very helpful thanks!!!!

  • @georgemoyzis1 You're welcome! Thanks for the comment

  • Good video Man!! it helped me out.

  • @ssid67 SWEEEEEET! That's my goal! That and to help get Ron Paul elected = )

  • The dice works like a champ ... Was trying to use a hammer handle like a wedge but to no avail... Video was excellent... Thanks!

  • @Czangrlli422 You're the man!

  • do you have to bleeb the caliper ?

  • @grandbalais No, unless you're filming and you cuss a lot. ; )

  • thanks man

  • @PowerliftingSupply YOU my friend... are most welcome!

  • bro thank you for making this video....god bless......

  • @TheDarkness72 You're most welcome. I'm glad it helped you out.

  • I use to do my own brakes when younger, and I decided to down my rear brakes after a bad experience with a local repair shop. I was using a C-Clamp and it wasn't working. So off to the internet I went and I found your video! Thanks!

  • @wingsnbeer4 ha ha! Way to go! You're welcome. Check out some of my other vids too. I have ones on building a barn, loading line on a trimmer, fixing a mower that won't start, and how to take an Elk apart too.

  • Great video....its been a while and i was using way to much pressure with a C clamp. Godd thing i stopped and went to the internet before i damaged it. Thanks! Off to get the right tool!

  • @tandb0316 You're most welcome- thanks for posting.

  • Thanks why dont u show how to use that kit?

  • @legendmove I suppose I could make a video on that- will do!

  • Great video. I have a Chevy Malibu and my rear calipers are just the same so this video came in handy. Thanks Bro.

  • @TheLogan2x You bet. Thanks for the comment.

  • Great video! I have a 98 Buick Park Avenue, I used the reset tool from Autozone but it's so hard to compress the caliper. Do I have to take some brake fluid out to ease the pressure? Thanks. Hai

  • @hai21century Hey Hai, thanks for asking that's a good question/comment. You don't have to remove any fluid. If you have an air compressor you can blow the dust off first. You can also use a spray silicone lubricant to make it easier too.

  • The only video I didn't watch was this one before doing my rear disk brake change. I love the video. I only wish I saw it earlier.

  • I've just spent 1 whole day trying to to push back the rear brake piston on my car, didnt know that i had to wind them down...Thanks for the info....i hope i didn't do any damage...

  • @R3DF3V3R If it didn't spill brake fluid you're likely ok.

  • @briansmobile1 No i think its ok, i just ordered a cube from ebay, thanks again :)

  • @R3DF3V3R You're welcome. Love ya!

  • @briansmobile1 is it bad if it the brake fluid spilled?

  • @XxREAPER9xX If it spilled from the caliper- yes. If it spilled from under the hood-no.

  • Well my evening of replacing rear pads is shot but I'm glad I saw this BEFORE tearing the brakes down. Thanks, Brother.

  • @forkjob You're welcome.

  • Well explained thanks

  • @metusa666 You're welcome!

  • hey were can i get one of those 6 sided dice things

  • @DIENAMICProductions Autozone, Harbor Freight Tools, and many other tool retailers including Sears.

  • @briansmobile1 is it just called a 6 sided dice?

  • @DIENAMICProductions Like everything in the automotive industry it has several names. It's a rear caliper dice, caliper piston compressor cube, six sided caliper dice, brake caliper dice, brake caliper cube- etc.

  • @briansmobile1 ok thanks man. big help

  • @DIENAMICProductions You're always welcome here.

  • @briansmobile1 thanks. if you have more car advice videos i will subscribe. well i will sucribe anyways

  • @DIENAMICProductions Cool. Hope it works out well for you.

  • we appreciate it, we were in the same boat as jcinjr, it's less than 10 degrees outside and the guys decided to do a quick brake job, not so quickly. Thanks, getting the cube tomorrow!

  • we appreciate it, we were in the same boat as jcinjr, it's less than 10 degrees outside and the guys decided to do a quick brake job, not so quickly. Thanks, getting the cube tomorrow!

  • You rock Briansmobile1!!!!!!! I just couldn't compress the piston with the c-clamp just like you said. Watched your video, walked over to Auto Zone and bought your Cube tool. Worked awesomely! I am 59 and getting tired of doing brakes. You are very kind for doing this. Today is Feb 5th, 2011 and I really don't like fixing the car in the winter OUTSIDE. Thank you so much.

  • @jcinjr You're most welcome. I'm glad I could help you out some.

  • in spanish some call them " dice" or (dados) , where I am from we call them "cubos" or (cubes)

  • @guayacan07 cool.

  • thanks, it was excellent info well explained !

  • @jgcg85 I'm so glad you liked it. Thanks for the kind comment.

  • nice,cool

  • We wer doing the same shit my freind as the other people were doing uyour video helpd out a lot thanks man!

  • @SHR0512 You're welcome- glad I could help out.

  • OMG! I feel like such a dumbass. I've never seen a spiral piston before. If you saw the size of the c-clamp I just bent, you'd be amazed at both my strength and my stupidity, simultaneously. At least I figured out I was doing something wrong and came here. Thanks for the video.

And, you're right, if you use a c-clamp, it will never go. Cheebus I feel like a dumbass.

  • @SaintFu You are not a dumb ass. You recognized your method wasn't working and sought information. That's brilliant! I'm glad my video helped you along. I respect your ambition. Happy New Year!~

  • @briansmobile1 You're too kind. Thanks very much for the vid. I've never had a c-clamp not do the job. Never seen these before. You saved me a couple hundred bucks not having to turn this job over to the guy down the street in a bad economy. So I appreciate the vid a great deal.

Job took me ten minutes on each side, if that, after watching your vid.

When all is said and done, I much prefer screwing them in over using a clamp. This is a really nice innovation in brake design.

    Happy NY!

  • Thanks a lot. I'm changing my wife's today and needed a refresher. :)

  • @bekriegII You are most welcome!

  • Brian Thanks for the good info on spiral calipers. I have done many brakes over the years, and just discovered that my Wife's 2004 Jetta has these on the rear.

  • Where can you get those 6 sided dies at?

  • dude u rock.... i have a 97 mustang an the dam C clamp dont fuckin work.... i know y now......Thanx....

  • @josuemizraim Ah, thanks! Best of luck to you!

  • I have had to change that rotating brake caliper a couple times and have not luck with those little die. But, I didn't know autozone had those kits and it was great. It went a lot easier with that. Thanks,

  • @jet81664155 You bet. I knew I put that in there for a reason. ; )

  • I have had to change that rotating brake caliper a couple times and have not luck with those little die. But, I didn't know autozone had those kits and it was great. It went a lot easier with that. Thanks,

  • Man you are ok I have done brake jobs before and have never run into a spiral piston. I spent 30 minutes trying to push the piston in with the C clamp thanks for the enlightenment. you taught an old dog a new trick

  • @jmainella SO glad I could help!

  • Great as always !!

  • @adrianalanis20000 Thanks!
