@AbandonedMind Yea i have seen that, i actually have it on my computer. Thats mostly in rainbows and hail to the theif songs on that, there are no songs from the King of limbs on it. My point was i dont think the songs from The king Of limbs work live. in rainbows stuff and hail to the theif songs live are incrediable
God, I really want them to do a live album performance of TKOL. The album was one of my favorites, and the the live versions are even better, in my opinion.
Never really liked this song that much even when it was just Thom and a steel guitar back around the time of HTTT or whatever, the song is a bit meh isn't it?
as always, hearing Radiohead live is a COMPLETELY different experience to hearing the album versions of these songs. I was worried TKoL was going to be all minimalist dance music, but this rocks!
@GStarDragon you hit the nail on the head - one of the best live acts you'll ever see, and even the dancey minimalist stuff has a really full, organic almost woody sound to it. Ace.
Glastos good but, I'm disappointed Radiohead have to hire two record company guitarists to augment their live show. They were such a critically important band in the 90's.
@tomhwoods ...2000's too, bud. Oh, those imaginary "2 record company guitarists" appear on YOUR channel? Ok, cause I was wondering where they were on this one..
Colin is a sweetheart, Phil is the peaceful power, Ed is the cool dude, Jonny is the shy musical prodigy (what? he's still a child) and Thom is the magical-voice-great-lyrics-writing nutcase. Ah, I love them all!
@AmelieDemy I guess he did some on In Rainbows... ? Whether or not, I think he is very good and should be more involved this way... At least when they play this new stuff live. Ed´s and Thom´s voices sound beautiful together. Like R.E.M.´s Mike Mills and Michael Stipe - perfect combination.
Don't get all the moaning about not playing classic songs. Who gives a fuck? This sounds amazing! What other band is making crazy cool music like this? Who cares about planet telex when you can go mad with this? And anyway, didn't they play a tonne of stuff from in rainbows anyway, finishing with street spirit? No pleasing some people!
this shit is boss man, dont care what anyone says. didn't like this shit before. but i can see, played like this, as a welcomed staple of future radiohead shows amonst the more known songs purely because of THAT BASS and the energy
Oh for gods sake the album is great it is Radiohead if you do not like then do not buy it or even waste your time listening to the album or Radiohead in fact,,,,,It is good that Radiohead is trying different styles of beats, music etc instead of sticking to the same old style that some band do
So Radiohead go one keep trying the new but still remain a little with the old
Self indulgent!!!! It was a special guest slot not a headliner - regardless of that they can do what they want. They seem to be enjoying themselves playing what they want to play and it sounds bloody fantastic to me. Isn't that what it's about?
One of the very few highlights of this set and one of the biggest disappointments I've had in 5 years of Glasto. I'm a fan but have somehow managed not to see them before, when watching their previous Glastonbury performances I just assumed that they didn't do bad sets... this was one of the most self indulgent sets ever, aimed at purists and the bands own members. When they begrudgingly played Street Spirit at the end I thought they might redeem themselves with a couple more hits - sadly not.
@jamescraiguk oh go away with the negative comments! FFS! They played the new songs, you should expect that! and the set wasnt that big, 14 songs, man people like you call yourself a fan, when you don't act like a fan at all, suppose to be support!
@jamescraiguk Are you kidding me? You're upset that they didn't play enough of their hits? This is the first live performance they have done after releasing King of Limbs and you're upset they didn't play their old stuff? Fuck you man.
@gemroi This isn't their first live performance of King of Limbs, they played the entire album recently I heard on the radio. My problem is that at a festival you don't have a collection of hard-core fans (especially at Glastonbury as the line-up is released after tickets are sold, and even more so at a "special guests" slot), so why try to appeal to just them? Use a tour for that! And did I really deserve a "fuck you"?
@jamescraiguk - On the contrary, I'd have been disappointed with a set full of 'hits'! And I'm not a purist, just someone who likes seeing a band giving their new stuff a try out on stage. I'd find it hard to respect a band who didn't do that. With a recent album full of unplayed material and a surprise set on a small stage, you couldn't have expected otherwise, surely?
@yousuperpussy Bold statement. And wrong. I essentially agree with him. If I was standing in the mud and rain at glasto and wasn't a massive fan I'd be very dissappointed. Even AS a massive fan I have a feeling that the atmosphere there wouldn't have been so great. It's just an odd place to test run new stuff, particularly from an album that wasn't THAT well received. I don't think it's self indulgent really, just misguided. Sure they can do what they want, but not even a handful of classics?
@greyztone well picture it like this.... legendary band plays special guest slot at festival = unhappy audience.... something is wrong with that statement. I see what your getting at and it boils down to: they didn't play songs you wanted to hear, which leaves the blame in the audiences hands if they didn't enjoy it.
@yousuperpussy I spoke to loads of people when walking away from the set and even more around the festival and every single person I spoke to was of the same opinion. Maybe from the comfort of your living room/bedroom/office it was a great set - standing in the pissing rain with feet stuck in the mud I was hoping for something magical; this, I am very sad to say, was not.
@aperturius what?? is not like I can sing or hum it to you or anything, but you can hear 3 guitar parts, Thom's playing the main one, Jonny's playing the one that sounds a bit more melodic, and Ed's playing one similar to Thom's sound, but it's repetitive, and it complements the main guitar part pretty well
@aperturius In the live version you see how important he is...he's the one who made the arrangements in the live version, he's the one that put the details that made the Radiohead songs so amazing. I don't think he is useless.
@franflozeg I never said he was useless. In fact I think he's a brilliant musician. But it's simply undeniable that he's being underutilized in most of the new songs. Maybe he's happy just doing the occasional rhythm or background texture and if he is then great. But I just wish they would give him more to do.
this is pretty sick. them going off and the rain coming down. I mean it looks cool, probably sort of freezing being there and all. Thanks for the upload though, made my week!
