i haven't seen wild horses in obx since 1997. They used to be on the sides of the roads, even hanging out at the Food Lion looking for scraps of food. Where are they all now?
Not so - we just came back from there, and saw guys in jeeps patroling the beach, watching for 'offenders'! And we were warned by our tour people to keep our distance. Of course, SOME people don't think rules apply to them, apparently. Such a privilege to get to see these horses - why would anyone take the chance and not adhere to the law? Seeing them was one of the highlights of my life!
@kukla8753 oh okay well thats good that their enforcing the laws. the two times i was there i never saw one person try to enforce it but this was in 2010 and 2008.
I'm sorry to be all "Debbie Downer", but the law in Corolla states that humans must stay at least 50 feet away from the wild horses. There were a couple points in this video where people weren't doing so. And there were a couple close shots that I'm hoping were just taken with a zoom and not because you were so close to the horses. There are so few of them; we all have a responsibility to adhere to the guidelines in place for their protection. That said, your pictures are lovely.
@LadyMissHuntie yeah it is sad that alot of people break this law and the horses adapt to this. most of my pictures i did use a zoom, so nothing to worry about. although when i was there, there is no way to enforce and not that big of an effort was taken to ensure that people stay 50 feet away at all time.
@LadyMissHuntie I think Sable Island is amazing. Its a goal of mine to go there and be in mother nature's purest form like that. But I'm also wondering if interaction with horses isn't necessarily disturbing them. We are humans and part of nature, we co-exist with other species. That being said I do understand the rules of respect, but we should be allowed to explore them just as much as they are eager to explore us as humans don't you think?
obama you speak of doing good for the country time to work on your country ; the states here republican's get your heads outta your tushes democratics get your tush outta the air . it is time for improvement. clean up your own backyards before you try and clean someone else's. The time is here NOW!!
we invade everything no peace for anyone or anything it has been done for decades there is no need to expect a change now although we can dream and someday just maybe someday ......they will have what we have taken away
And the sad part is that no one gives a damn. The federal government only values these horses and the mustangs for the money they can bring in meat. Think about that the next time you eat a fast food hamburger that they call 'beef'. I ask everyone to boycott beef because the cattle farmers complain that that wild horses 'steal' grazing land from them. Screw the cattle farmers. No demand for beef - no reason to shove the horses off their lands. I'll go vegetarian in a flash if that is the answer.
That herd isn't that big any more. I went there in September and the two sorrel mares were there, the chestnut foal, the other foal, and the stallion.
where on the outer banks was this?

Thank you so much for capturing these scenes. Many of us aren't fortunate enough to visit the Outer Banks. You make us feel as if we were there.
Someday I will get over there to see it in person.

@Sonoraman our government cares about nothing but fattening their own wallets. It's a real shame.
