People saying Terry Bozzio isn't good don't know shot about percussion. Just the fact that he could play Frank Zappa is good enough, but on his audition he played "the Black Page 1", which is commonly considered to be one of the hardest percussion pieces to ever be written. Bozzio's independance is insane, get your facts right gentlemen. I used to think like you until I discovered what Bozzio really does. Though I still don't like his style much, pay due respect to his skills.

You know the story about that guy who makes a bet to play the fiddle against the devil? Well if that story were about drums, Buddy Rich would be the devil. Incredible technique and ability, for sure, but the man has no soul. (Off stage he was not a good man, seriously.) Given the era in which he performed, he was certainly great. But times have changed and more drummers can execute clean rolls like that while integrating international rhythms. Sorry Buddy...Hall of Fame but not #1 by far

Look at Buddy compared to practically every drummer out there, especially the ones on these videos. All of them have big sets except Buddy. Buddy has a very basic set, but can get the most incredible drumming this planet has ever seen. Let's face it Buddy can do with his snare than Bozzio could with that big of a set. Finally though half of what Bozzio did were cymbal rolls with double bass combined with weird synth breaks. That's not drumming, Rich can fucking drum.

buddy's snare tilt is for speed and for convenice because he uses traditional grip and not matched grip. When you play with that grip your left elbow is into your body more and your left stick has less of an angle so tilting the snare that way is just naturaly more comfortable if your using that grip...

Here is my opinion..and it is the right one..no one is better than Buddy Rich..never has been and never will be..if God has a band, Buddy Rich IS the drummer. The closest to him is Peart of Rush..then you have 1,000's that are third and so on. Thats it.Speed is not everything. Buddy was technical and fast. That is why Peart is great. All these others are just fast. wow. I am fast..but I cant do what Buddy and Peart do. Yes, Tools drummer is good, Portnoy is good, but after seeing Buddy...

If you notice, the part of Buddy Rich's drum solo where he builds up from a very slow speed into a very fast roll... The angle he gets his sticks at right there when he lifts them up would not be able to be easily achieved if his snare drum were at a simpler angle. Buddy obviously knew how he wanted to play, and I guess it just really goes to show how individualized music (especially good music like this) can really be. I am a big fan of Buddy Rich :)
