Bailouts will give money to the major companies that fucked up, and we should give them OUR tax money?! If Obama were to give every US citizen bailout money instead of giving it to the big companies, every American over the age of 21, each citizen would get approximately over $7000 to pay off their bills.
I say get rid of there union jobs, make those workers, work for a standard maufacturing wage, and not this over jumped up stupid, $73 per hour, more like 15 per hour ,fuck em.
Consumers don't have the money to buy these cars. "The Average Joe" can't afford the luxuries. The Big CEO's of these car makers have all the "lap of luxury". Giving themselves huge raises, "Chrysler", "FORD", and "GENERAL MOTORS" CEO's leave the Bankrupt companies in a "Golden Parachute". They never have the money to hire more people to work. Now so many people are "Out of work". These Car maker "Female Executives" spend the money for manicures, pedicures, and flying in these "Private Jets"
you know jack crap about the auto industry. Do you believe everything you hear? You are a disgrace to Americans. Watch the auto industry fail, and everything else will go with it. You don't know what hours everyone puts in to make the American car. It's not the life of luxury. While you are sitting at home with your family many Americans will be at the unemployment line. Thanks for your support. I bet you support the war.
Yes...the same DAVID VITTER (R-LA) whose phone number was found on the call list of the DC prostitute. He still runs his whore-mongering pie-hole to kill the American worker and the US stock market for political gain. I am not in the union, but they deserve the wages they bargained for. Now get ready for what your republican clowns have bargained for you. Take a good look at the stock market today because that is an indicator where your job or business is going- you're done.
TO ALL UAW WORKERS - DO WHAT OBAMA DID - start a website for donations against the republican faggot clowns that are trying to kill the US stock market by their union busting political stunt of opposing the US automaker LOAN, not like the GIVEAWAY they gave wall street. THE REASON - they are in the pocket of foreign automakers because of their plants in their states. Send all donations to the oppposing candidate of MITCH MCCONNELL (R-KY), BOB CORKER (R-TN) and DAVID VITTER (R-LA).
Just give them the bail-out and sort the bloody Unions out - it's the tail wagging the dog - why humilitate them any further - give them the money!!!!
There is so much misinformation about the US auto companies. They are asking for a loan that will be paid back..not a bailout. That is an irresponsible media term. The auto companies have a problem because of the credit crunch. That was caused by the banks and directed by the government. The US auto companies are the only companies in the world that are not subsidized by their home country. We do need to even the playing field. We should raise the tariffs on their cars like they do ours.
i couldn't agree with you more. i've been saying this for years now. people will buy domestic if we raise tariffs on imports like they do to our vehicles.
US goverment shouldn't bailout the banks, that set the standard for what the automakers are asking which is nothing compared with what the banks are still getting.
Citigroup is owned by a saudi and got more than 500 billions since begining of 07, did anybody in congress noted it?????
Why should the U.S. government bail out the autoworkers? Let those sacks of white trash go down like the rest of us. I don't see them giving a shit about fast food workers who don't have health insurance and retirement, about unemployed people, or people in other countries dying. These are the people who belong to unions and then accuse others of being socialist because they want the same life conditions that they have. I hate those rednecks.
The US Congress should not bailout the US auto industry. Foreign automakers have a sizable advantage when it comes to costs. Approx $80 US to $40 foreign. The US Congress can provide immediate and long term relief by introducing legislation that rolls back the decades long tax and regulatory burden US automakers have had to carry in comparison to the foreign automakers. When costs are reduced then there will be more money for research & innovation. The bailout is only a stop gap measure.
I say let them fend for themselves or fail. These idiots deserve to fail. They CEO's do not know how to run an effective company. They are idiots. Why put our tax dollars in the hands of bankers and auto companies - this is just a band aid. The only way to get us out of this mess is to help create jobs - we are a consumer based econonmy. Please call your reps and congressmen. This nonsense has to stop!
I work in the paper industry, we have lost so many blue collar jobs lately that I can't even put a number on it...my daughter's 10th birthday , her main gift was a warm sweater for winter, she saw the tags on it and said,"wow ,and no body ever worn this before me"! I'm glad to have made her happy, but also ashamed. We all need a change for the better! paper industry needs help too. Maybe the big C.E.O.'s need to wipe there butts with a car bumper, and forget about the toilet paper!
The cost to produce their product is 10X LESS than what they sell it for, and then they turn around show up on private jets and cry poor mouth, while they're outsourcing American jobs.
i was in a union and all the benifitts like health insurance 401k and union dues came out of my check every 3rd week of the month the companies hardly pay a dime to that cause
The Senate would give automakers access to $25 billion in LOANS (not bailout) from the $700 billion Wall Street bailout program. In exchange, the government would take an ownership stake in the companies. New limits would be imposed on executive compensation, including a provision barring bonuses from executives whose salaries are higher than $250,000 until the government had been repaid for the loan. Companies receiving government loans would be prohibited from paying dividends to shareholders.
What people do not realize that while Toyota and Nissan have enjoyed the free market in the US they are not bogged down with retiree benefits. The Big 3 have generations of benefits they pay out every month and those include dependants too. They add $2K to each car to cover cost the foreign auto makers dont have to cover. And people keep buying foreign! Go ahead let 3+million more americans lose their jobs. Then we will watch this country die a slow economic death.
This pisses me off! The fuc%in corporate executives of the automobile companies are getting paid millions!!!!!!!! These guys needs their salaries slashed drastically before a bail out is even considered. That wont be part of the plan though. They will lay-off 1000's of blue collar folks to reserve dollars for themselves.
NoNo no!~ wrong stop making cars! don't lend money to the auto industrys why is the goverment lending billions to them!? cause their in debt??? yo think about about the people in this country? my dad is 100,000
Can somebody please explain to me why we're still protecting Japan for free under the terms we set after WW2? Japan has no military expenses (unlike us), so the Japanese government just pours all their money into research and development for companies like sony and toyota and then those companies run ten times more efficiently than American companies like Ford and GE because they receive tons of money from the Japanese government, then the Japanese companies put our companies out of business.WTF
GM could have been the pioneer and world leader in electric cars (the EV-1 as previously mentioned) the "VOLT" is too little too late. I say fuck'em In capitalism the weak are devoured by the strong
These UAW workers making all that money over all these years should have saved it. If they went and bought big houses and expensive cars instead of saving the money, then they are a prime example of the prime problem with this country, living beyond your means. We need totally new companies to build electric cars and I bet they could find all the workers they need for $12.00 an hour with no benefits or union. R.I.P. GM, FORD and CHRYSLER. You have priced yourself out of a job.
You're an idiot to think anyone will build electric cars, which practically ahave a government mandate to be built, for $12/hr!! Why do people always want others to make less than them? Jealousy! All these folks who by law HAVE A RIGHT TO FORM A UNION! The chickenshits at the nonunion Honda/Hyundai/Nissan/Toyota plants should let the UAW represent them too! Do you really think that these factories would close just beacause their labor costs went up a few dollars...HELL NO!
All I've got to say to these workers is pull out your picket signs and reword them to read "Will Work for Food" as this bailout is doomed because the majority of the people say "SCREW YOU", ya we remember watching on TV every couple of years these UAW workers picketing for higher wages over and over. Well I'de just love to see them out there now. ROFLMAO
You sure are a regular fool. You're jealous of people who make a real wage for hard work. I am sorry you have not received a decent wage in your life, but you've also never worked on an assembly line, I can tell. That is HARD WORK and you come home hurting. Yeah, we deserve high wages for the damage it does to our bodies. Otherwise, wed quit.
Good point! I have met a lot of people that tried to work at a Goodyear plant close to where I live that makes passenger car/truck tires. Everybody wants to work there due to the higher wages, but alot of people quit because they can't handle the work or environment.
Let them go to the fed themselves and get a loan. The congress no longer prints money. So why are the tax payers being involved again. Go get money from the people that print it and own it. NOT US !!
Well why is there cars holding up so much better. The americans want to make more money off the working americans in parts.Look at the resale value of a 05 honda and a 05 malibu
CAI selected Toyota as a nominee for its 2008 "Corporate Hall of Shame" elections. Toyota is contributing to inaction on global warming. The company has hypocritically crafted an image as a corporate ally in the fight against climate change while working behind the scenes to stop greenhouse gas mandates from becoming law. Toyota, has opposed "clean cars" legislation in many U.S. states, and is employing "aggressive lobbying efforts" to prevent legislation to limit gas-guzzling vehicles by 2020.
This is a comment from someone who has NO IDEA WHATSOEVER what's gone on in Detroit the last 5 years, NONE! Sure, bailout all the idiots who CAUSED ALL OF THIS MESS with a blank check, but not to one of the foundations of manufacturing in the country! That makes a ton of sense. They would NOT have been in Washington if the financial melt-down didn't happen. Sure, let it burn,...but remember YOU WILL BE EFFECTED, trust me!
These times are our best chance for significant change. Hopefully the old ideas will die and the new, sensible ideas will take their place. However, the only way this can happen is if nations themselves don't collapse, as well. That is to say, sure, maybe we'll have to live through an economic depression, but seeing the complete collapse of governments would not be beneficial, as all our laws and rights would fall with them. Economies can be rebuilt, but rights are not gained back so easily.
Let the Big 3 declare bankruptcy. No bailouts. They'll be bought up, and hopefully will improve their product so that the American People actually want to buy their product.
