some parts are a style called linear drumming. it's "funky" in the sense that the drum beat can literally be written as Bss/Snr/Snr/Bss/HH/Snr/Snr/HH/­Crsh/Crsh/Tom/Snr. it's a really simple idea, but somewhat difficult to play. it's linear because it's a constant stream of drums being played individually; no two drums are struck at the same time.

as for other parts of his video, he's just jammin.

what mic and softwear do you use and how much would it cost togather?

@iceydanpowns The condenser mic cost me roughly $200 from eBay but Audacity was free. I don't use a mixer anymore. I currently use PreSonus Firestudio Project interface and Cubase 5.

you can never have too many rimshots. what's distinctive is the pop that he's forcing out of his snare. if you don't wanna crank the snare for that sharp tone, just play differently... id est, striking with the shoulder closer to the rim.

My only tip is for recording. A little less gain on your snare mic and over heads

Needs a little bit more syncopation to sound more funky. This is just kinda hip hop. Still sounds tight though!
