This video was posted to a guitar newsgroup today as an example of volume swell. I kind-of knew what to expect when I saw the Morse guitar. That was very nicely done!
Do you just have delay or is there a chorus effect as well?
It sounds very familiar, so is it following something that Steve actually did or is it just a Morse-like progression?
does any one know the name of the danish person who plays bach music on a electric guitar with a hollowed out fret board he is really good at violining
Sweet job! Very good, the audio in the vid is also really good, which is a nice change to most vids on here. I only wonder how youre getting it to pan?
it does slow you down. but what does that matter when you dont care about speed? and anyway you can just learn how to use both types with thumb or without thumb.
Great technique. As with anything mechanical the Pots do wear out eventually though , the good thing is they are quite cheap & easy to replace. using your feet with a volume pedal is a safer however its tricky to get such fine changes with big clumsy feet!
get a volume pedal it makes it easier.. and ya can do more trust ive done it this way for years... when swelling chords it's better.. swells sound good
really really good i enjoy, like steve morse i am waiting for "cascades's solo" from deep purple, can you post the tab? if yes can you contact me on youtbe? thanks
I have a problem, after executing to many swells my volume knob goes crazy, it has almost the same volume when placed in 0 that when placed in 10, but then after a I while it goes back to normal, any ideas , I dont want to mess my guitar by making volume swells, at least i think that should't happen. WHAT'S WRONG? PLEEEEEASE HELP!!!
stop using the knob, get a volume pedal. the yamaha FC7 volume pedal is about 25 bucks.
doing anything repeatedly that isnt normal to a guitar (like volume swells or toggle switching) can mess the guitar up. just stop doing it, find an alternative. just in case you didnt know, toggle switching is where you turn the volume on one pickup on and one off, then use the 3 way switch to flip between the two. alot of guitarists use it for a tremolo effect.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
u r a guitar genius.. what is toggle switch.. tell us again what it does .. and wtf does it mattter.. doing it with your finger gives you the skills mo fo used back in the day.. bith ways are good.. so fuck you dorkface.. guitar guru.. wanna be..
what did i do? i was just giving jfnd777 some advice. what the hell is your problem? i fucked up my dean by repeatedly using a toggle switch, and im sure its the same thing with him on the volume swellls. he was having issues, why should he keep doing it?
using your toggle switch for a tremelo effect is a bad thing indeed, however, doing volume swells with a knob shouldnt harm your guitar. Steve morse does them every single day and show, maybe that's because hes playing a Music Man worth at least 2000 bucks.
Either way,
Using your knob should not harm your guitar what so ever, it's a normal thing to do...
thoughts anyone?
not trying to diss you or something, just exchanging opinions and experiences.
Yeah there's no way it would harm your guitar...its a knob its meant to be used...some people do use volume pedals. I just use the knob and echo... kinda hard to do tho because my right hand has to leave the strings.. but the sound comes off with more warmth and smooth when you use the knob.
Very nice! Bytor and the snow dog on rush' live album has an incredible volume pedal solo. Not many people use them anymore. Keep up the great playing.
Steve Morse is a badass. His violining touch me almost to tears. Damn, I want to play like that but when i turn the knob it is hard to turn it back (to 0 point)so the attack is brightly able to hear :(.
Hey, sounds great. Those Morse models are killer guitars. What were you're delay settings if you don't mind me asking? And what chords were you playing? Thanks.
nice composition, and cool tone. But with swells you might want to let it ring out more (play slower) and increase the milliseconds on your delay. Just an observation, Unless your going to to do EVH "Cathedral" then this techniqueo works best with more repeats. Check out my Boards Of Canada cover. :)
yea i just got the y2d a week ago, killer sound! its a little morse bright them my other morses but its good for highway star cause im doing the steve morse version at a gig, the version from there album "total abandon" second song is sometimes i feel like screaming.... oh yea hope you can complete "sometimes i feel like screaming". rock on!
thx man :) i hope i can get the smy2d too...but for now...my plan is to buy a tube amp...maybe some hughes & kettner...the switchblade sounds really good :)
yes, that too :) i am a big steve morse fan...but it isn't just the youtube... i know this technique from his other diverse songs and solos and i've met him live backstage on a dp concert in germany...he invited me :)
I cannot believe it!!! He DID!!! what is your mail, do you have a msn? i wanna share things with you about Steve Morse, couse i to, have a lot of experiance from steve
