i know Vertigo was their big single off Atomic bomb, but if you listen to the album on multiple occasions this song comes thru as the highest energy, and melodic song....AWESOME!!
It's so funny how people say that Bono is a prick. Why do you guys care about his life outside of music? It shouldn't impact your lives, if it does - then WOW.
It shouldn't matter to you what Bono does.
Also, um. If you don't like the song and don't care what it means for, then why listen to it? ALL songs have meanings. If they didn't, then it would be almost pointless.

No. BONO IS A PRICK.
Kazimann was right about that one thing, but about the song? The song sucks. This is the one song on the album that U2's arrogant fans can't come to a consensus about. some believe it's a song about life, some death, and others God. One thing I think everyone can agree on is: nobody cares.
I'm just an old man I guess, but I remember ditching High School, (Not A Recomondation), to see them do the vidio "Where the Streets Have no name" it was great then, the band is great now! Listen to their words in this song and all of their songs and you can hear Christ! The day will come when everyone will have heard His Name (read Rev), with the net available that's becoming more a reality.
You hear what you want to hear. The boys aren't promoting Christ just because they are Christians. Literature... Poetry... Rhyme and storytelling are all influenced by the myths in our culture. Bono weaves these into song. Period. The day will come when arrogant know it all religious ass-holes realize you suck from the same glass dick as every one else.
This song is beyond great... it's legend. From Bono's incredibly vocals, to the awesome drums & guitar.
This song is defenitly added to my favorites. This song will never grow old, no matter how many times I listen to it - I will still rock to this song.
im from edmonton canada and when this happened we were on a school trip to new york and it was so crazy my teacher was frantic so me and my buddy snuk off and followedthem then went to the conert and got back to the hotel that night only to be in a shitload of shit with the school but it was u2 so it didnt matter
I thought everyone knew most of their songs are about Jesus. That's why their songs are SO phenomenal and actually touch people. I always thought 'City of Blinding Light' is about Jesus Christ. Another cool thing about U2 is how sexy Bono is at this time in their career. Women of all ages find him delectable in all videos from HTDAAB. Yumyum. OF course, he is no man whore. Just talented, sexy, charismatic and he puts his money where his mouth is politically. Love em. Wish I were Irish.
I don't think all of their songs are about Jesus, and what is so cool about U2...their religious songs aren't very obvious, direct or in your face - so they don't alienate nonbelievers or agnostics.
um well while they will not deny Jesus, as far as Ive seen in interiews, not all their songs are about Jesus, nor do they have to be or need to be. BLINDING LIGHTS was about their first time in America in NY, per an interview with Bono - in fact in one of the NY clips of this surprise concert, Bono talks about that. Now can it also be applied to Jesus or God? sure! MUSIC is personal & to be experienced as such, usually.
great idea bono you make me feel good. you are the best, you are the unique. y viva mexico cabrones! y aver que dia haces lo mismo en el paseo de la reforma en mexico d.f. pero me avisas..... buena rola buena rola felizitacione
One of the beautiful things about U2's lyrics is that they can be about many different things depending on how you interpret them. This song could be about Jesus, The Who, or maybe Bono's wife, Ali. I am a believer, so I can see how the lyrics are about Jesus, but I am not so narrow minded that I think that that is the only way to interpret them.
it also says, "some people got squashed crossing the tracks, some people have high rises on their backs. I'm not broke but you can see the cracks, YOU CAN MAKE ME PERFECT AGAIN." it doesnt get more spiritual than that.
This video is epic, everything about the band is epic. Bono is an amazing humanitarian and everything that he's done for the people of this world cannot be matched. The video gives me chills, man.
Peace lets pray, that is what Gods intention is. lol, of course it is.

Along with Tomorrow, one of U2's most under-rated songs.

Many songs are about multiple things, if you listen.

I agree with this. When I first heard this song (on T.V. not Youtube). I automatically thought that.
"I was born a child of grace." what else is that than about Jesus/Conversion.
Look at the words and tell me it isn't a slightly veiled song about Jesus. Awesome!
And it's great because the Agnostics can deny it all they like and still listen to this great song. :P
(The Great) I AM is another word for God too.
