This isn't really so hard :) I can play this with regular speed. Only problem for me is the apreggios with many black keys. Two falling apreggios right there in the middle :D
Usually this piece goes much better after you have played it once meaning that it feels like u have warm up ur brains and hands. But sometimes you just nail it!
It looks simple on paper but it's actually one of the hardest pieces in the standard repertoire.
Even the supernatural cziffra can't pull it off on this recording. You can hear the inaccuracies every time he moves the thumb under. (That's exactly what this etude is for)
Believe me: there isn't a single professional pianist that doesn't shit his pants when they tell him to play this one.
Anna Larsen can't play Chopin's Etude Op.25 No.11 right, only the notes (I heard her). You can't say wow at a performance like that. Chopin Etudes AREN'T for 8 years old children. I heard many children playing Chopin Etudes, Scherzos, Ballades and even Concerti at a very young age but that doesn't mean that they are geniuses. Mozart, Chopin, Liszt, Rachmaninoff and other pianistic names were geniuses.
@NewRachmaninoff who said anything about genius? i just said she could play it. shes 8 and has the mental capacity to atleast understand the mechanics of a complex work. you dont have to be genius to play a chopin etude
@anonymousQ45 she doesn't understand nothing. she's 8. she should understand how ponies and bunnies work, but that's all. and yes, you indeed have to be a genius to PLAY chopin etudes.
I'm a pianist as an artist for 43 years now so I know exactly what I'm putting down here. I've heard this piece from many different artist so far.George Cziffra is much higher the best not only in performing this etude but the 2 complete series of Etudes by Fréderik Chopin.
I really don't like this interpretation. :\ It's really jolty (for lack of a better term), disjointed, and doesn't feel like it's working toward a greater goal.
In fact this recording is very unclean. I own many recordings of my uncle's which was a pianist and new Cziffra very well.
This may sound very childish indeed , but the recording I own is simply breath taking. Every note is crystal clear , speed quite fast but musically its something Cziffra could be proud of.
If I can recall correctly (my uncle told me) he did record Chopin's etudes somewhat after the death of his son , which we all know offected his playing. I dont know..it is infact bad.
I think is not the most important thing in Chopin etudes, so I prefer this slowly. Although, Cziffra is a great pianist.

@composer54 I like Argerich's recording of this more. Just my two cents, but I think she absolutely nails it.

Pollini's version of the Etudes is totally lacking in passion, fantasy and imagination. Cziffra devours this Etude like the piano tiger he was.

i can hear 1 small mistake there, but good job, a very talented pianist!

He plays it fast but some of the notes are glossed together which is very disturbing.....

Cziffra? :| it's full of mistakes! Pollini plays it much better!

@lupash Pollini? :| it's full of cold-hearted interpretation! Cziffra plays it much better!

rhythm is very unsteady and unnecessary accents all over the place. This is NOT like cziffra at all!!

I think it's a bit fast, you may try to listen to other versions such as Pollini's or kempf's, or Ashkenazy's.
I don't mean Cziffra did bad, and I really cant play this!(But i know how to play Tristesse, Op.10 No.3)
tonyngjichun 2 years ago
Oh well; that's how Cziffra plays it: FAST!!! :)

The speed is exxagerated in this performance and therefore musically it is unsatisfactory in my opinion.
