i own a craviotto maple with steel and wood hoops, a tempus carbon fiber and i recently picked up up this little baby ! none of the video's on youtube capture the full dynamic range of this drum !! it kicks ass in any situation . jazz-very soft , funk, rock, folk, big band, hip hop .....etc.. this drum truly stands with the best of them ! they're almost the greatest secret in the drum world ! i play traditional grip and slant my drum . this baby is is like the touch of a beautiful woman !
dude i have this snare also and it is the sweetest snare ive played in my life but one question....how did you get it to sound like that and what heads did you use???
I tightened the batter head real tight, loosened off the throw a tad after tightening that to the point where the snare didn't bite, loosened the reso a bit too.
Batter is Evans EC2 snare and reso is Evans Hazy 300
It's not the heaviest snare known to man, but it comes close. The build quality is faultless and the sound truly is awesome. I prefer wood snares through choice but this is the best metal snare that I own (I have 14 snares)
Thanks. Yes it's a Saturn and it's the ltd ed one with the black hardware and two floor toms. Walnut/Maple. I love the kit, and glad I found that particular one locally.

if not tell me me what black panthers are best (not counting adlers its to small)
dreaves000 2 years ago
Again, I'm not so sure which would be best, why not find out if any of the drummers of your favourite bands are Mapex Endorsees.
And I think you'd be surprised by the Adler snare, it packs a hefty punch.

dreaves000 2 years ago
I have no idea as I'm not a fan of that type of metal. I suppose the snare could handle it :o)

I know this thing looks unbelievably beautiful, but tell me is it worth the 399 price tag?
DeadPandaTits 2 years ago
It didn't cost me 399. Cost me £280, well actually it cost my wife that much, she bought it for me

dang, lucky you
in america the usual price for this, that i've found so far, is about 299 or 349.
regardless, is it worth the month?
DeadPandaTits 2 years ago
That works out cheaper than in the UK :o)

Depending on where you go on the internet, it's either posted as an Aztec snare or a Mayan Aztec snare.
It's still the same thing, so don't panic old chap :o)
