  • their drummer reminds me of Keith Moon

  • Anyone else notice that UFO at 1.36?

  • @dayrick40 That was a light flashing on the part of the drums

  • The drummer kills it on this song! Such an awesome tune! Ah Debbie, I could stare at your face forever.

  • I think when Bonzo and Moon died, Clem stepped up.

  • I hope when Obama dies he comes back as Clem Burke's drums

  • I just cant get enough of Blondie

  • she sounded great live.

  • love that Clem Burke back-beat.

    a VERY under rated drummer

  • @gabbax2hey77 Touche

  • Clem Burke is a human drum machine--perfection with personality. He reminds me so much of Moonie.

  • THE SONG TO START ANY BLONDIE GIG

  • Whatta set of pipes!

  • I AM A HUGE BLONDIE FAN !!! DEBORAH HARRY WAS MY FIRST CRUSH AS A KID, I WAS ABOUT 8 OR 9. BUT BLONDIE , ALL THERE SONGS WERE GREAT. MY FAVORITE IS THE TIDE IS HIGH. THEY SHOULD DO A BLONDIE MOVIE , THE WAY THEY DID THE RUNAWAYS AND JOAN JETT.

  • I was a teenager during Blondie's heyday and they were huge. On every station every ten minutes and it seemed like every song that came out was better than the next. They had so many hits but were so concentrated that it seemed like such a short time that they were it. They put out like 10 years worth of songs in 3 years. Debbie deserves way more notoriety than she gets. They are still great now especially compared to what is coming out these days. It's all been done before.

  • such a lovely song.

  • I'll just keep on dreaming of Debby Harry.

  • Anybody know of any vids of clem burke solos???

  • When You first heard Blondie; did you think they were British?

  • @kennethj1956 No. Most of us know where this sound started. Behind every British band is a great American influence. Even the Beatles used to idolize people like Carl Perkins, Buddy Holly and Little Richard.

  • Debbie Harry was simply unique and unrivaled in what she did in the early 80s. Beautiful, talented & smart. I listen to other music from the 80's and other than Blondie no-one in this genre sounds so fresh and fun today as they did 30 years ago.

  • Reaming ... reaming is free.

  • she sounds incredible. yes and i have loved her for a very long time.

  • Clem Burke- this song is probably the greatest rock and roll drum performance of all time. And I am a RUSH fan too.

  • @kingofallwhites Clem is an even bigger beast on drums in the official video for this song. I agree with you, if this song isn't the greatest drum performance it's definitely one of the greatest ever!

  • and thats what i call a woman

  • Comment removed

  • no words

  • Mesmerising voice and stuff. Very.

  • speechless

  • My wife looks & moves like Debbie.... And is Ya Ya Rama Lama Ding Dong. I am sooo lucky!

  • i love her, i love them. this is one of my favorite albums.

  • I WISH THERE WERE MORE MUSIC LIKE DEBBIE. NOW ALL WE GET IS A BUNCH OF REJECT RAP WHO LOOK PISS OFF IN EVERY VIDEO. NOTICE I DIDN'T MENTION MUSIC VIDEO. IT NOISE ,NOT MUSIC.

  • Debbie is finer than frog's hair...

  • I love her, timeless performance.

  • who can't still hum "dreaming" and remember this amazing performance . . . and she's still going strong!

  • The drummer is killing it!! Love this song.

  • Clem Burke looks like he should be playing w/ Sha Na Na Na (the gold lame suit & all!) lol

  • Clem Burke's arms are a blur!!! One of the best drummers of all time.

  • She is almost as gorgeous as Grace Potter. What's with these auto-tuned ladies these. Debbie can sing. Those were the days. No multi-tracks no bullshit, This woman just had a great voice, like Maria McKee and Cyndi, Madonna is a poseur, So is Gaga. Not close.

  • The drummer is spectacular, as is Debbie Harry.

  • @aprilglaspieable wrote, "The drummer is spectacular, as is Debbie Harry."

    CLEM BURKE!

Amazing energy, INCREDIBLE beats on this song and often credited with being a driving force to keep the band together early on before they were successful as well as getting the group back together in the late '90s to tour again (and they still kicked ass even in their 40s and 50s including Deborah Harry's beautiful voice still sounding magnificent (she was born July 1, 1945)).

  • @ForTheDefence80 absolutely....one of my all time favourite drummers.......he'd have made a great drummer for the who

  • I want to kick the six dickbags that don't like this song right in the baby maker

  • Blondie does not get the credit they deserve for having such a huge influence on punk

  • Outstanding! What a voice! I love seeing and hearing her voice!

  • Yes....We rocked out in JR. High on Blondie, The Go-Go's N Heart........it was our time when we actually had Bands play after school N our school dances too. We were in love with them ALL.....Totally, 4 sure.

  • funny thing is that's all they saw with debbie, until later they realized how freakin awesome her and the band were!

  • Ahh the apollo, the greatest venue on the planet, gone but not forgotten.

  • she's the original sex rock goddess (in my opinion), she kept it classy in a rock chick way!

  • my favorite blondie song!! she sounds so sweet in this performance!! what a voice!!

  • THAT AMN CAN PLAY THEM DRUMS.MAN HE IS GOOD

  • You just have to give it up to Clem Burke could he wield those sticks...

  • @neilo1967

Might be the most impressive drummer ever. I thought so back in '79 and I think so now. You can have Moon, Bonham, whoever, but Burke knew/know's what he was/is doing.

  • @LTF6161 I agree - Alex Van Halen & Luis Cardenas for showmanship but Burke for energy and sound.... looking great v sounding great sound wins every time so Burke has to be tops

  • @LTF6161 You know who is also impressive is the drummer for The Plimsouls. I saw them in Hollywood in the mid 90's, (long after their prime), and although the band could still rock, it was the drummer that made the show for me.

  • Back the, all these bands were real. They all began in the clubs and bars of Europe and America. They were discovered by record companies and signed to contracts. No "American Idol" nonsense. They went on a lot of local TV shows to promote their records and lip-synced because the shows could not afford to pay for live performances. But as this shows, they were real performers not Studio creations.

Debbie Harry was a force of nature. 5 foot nothing and when she got on stage she owned it.

  • @pookatim

So true! earned their chops in CBGBs, worked like hell touring Europe and finally broke American radio somewhat.... but GOD I MISS REAL BANDS!!! And Debbie?? no one comes close

  • This is the song that tests your sound system, so open up all the windows and unleash the music.

  • pretty awesome vid. never seen it before. thanks!

  • Debbie and company killed it LIVE...amazing!

  • When I am done building my time machine......guess where I am going first and buying front row tickets to.

  • still rockin

  • lady gaga has no hope of ever being this good.....gorgeous,,,,angelic voice,,,,nuff said

  • My favorite Blondie song......They had already beacame huge by this point, but none the less still a great song...

  • My favorite Blondie song......

  • Clem Burke - just makes the track with his drumming - just superb

  • Insane drumming first and foremost; with Debbie hitting it out of the park vocally as well.

  • shit hot drummer or what

  • @r1wantone My dad knew that drummer, they were in a band together....

  • That drummer is out of control! :)

  • if only we could go back in time

  • the Apollo was the best place to see concerts; no bad seats!

  • Apparently Debby Harry is only the 12th greatest woman in rock and roll according to some poll. But who do you put over her? I mean I'd put a few alongside her - Slick, Joplin, Siouxzie, Patti Smith, PJ Harvey maybe, but OVER her? Who? Nevertheless there are 11 greater apparently. Never saw the poll but if Madonna, Minogue, gaga etc. are the ones then god help us all...

  • @CultureJudge

Not better, but equal: Niagara, Polly Styrene, Exene Chervenka, L7, Joan Jett. Anyway, Debbie is great.

  • @CultureJudge-That was a VH1 poll from some years back. Polls are generally worthless. Plus in the US Blondie has always been very underrated. The US music market severely limited new music and fans didn't get the exposure that fans in the UK and Europe got. This is a BBC video. And for some reason US critics always gave them credit only begrudgingly. On the brighter side, NME recently ranked her as the 4th best frontperson of all time ahead of all the others you listed. That's progress.

  • The quality of Clem Burke's drumming is inversely proportional to the lo0k of his golden suit ;-)

  • If there was ever any doubt that Clem Burke took Cozy Powell's crown as "Number One Drummer in the World" then this video removes it. Can't think of another drummer who'd get anywhere near this impact .............. and he's still awesome now

  • @Sabatinitennis That is a bold statement..Clem is great but pound for pound I would have to go with the late Cozy Powell..Peace

  • @LBjim you and sabatinitennis are joking... keith moon.. enough said!

  • @ewandmunro Keith a great drummer and definetely one of the best. It was hard to decide who is the best and this debate will go on forever.

  • @ewandmunro Moon and Burke have a similar style. Clem loved Moon

  • @blooddonor70 I always thought Clem was an elite drummer who never got the respect he deserved.

  • @fakeaorta Top three for sure bro, but the more you watch him...

  • @fakeaorta Clem Burke, Rat Scabies and Chuck Biscuits never got the respect they deserved. The dudes from the Buzzcocks and The Jam were really good also.

  • @blooddonor70 They sure did, and I'm not complaining at having'em both to listen to :-)

  • @blooddonor70 Clem is better though I have to say.

  • @kingofallwhites I really can't pick the better drummer, Moon was quite a character though. I'm just glad to discuss good music with smart people. Thank you.

  • SORRY BUT I HAVE SEEN AND WORKED FOR EM ALL AND BLONDIE WAS THE MOST WONDERFUL OF ALL HAPPY 420 OI

  • I am sure that I wasnt the only one who did some dreaming about Debbie Harry what a hottie she was.

  • How could you NOT fall in love with Debbie Harry

  • Amazing footage. No wonder I was in love with Debbie Harry when I was 10. And that drummer is a beast!

  • BLONDIE最高です。

    WOW...COOL!

  • I would LOVe to sit and watch the traffic go with DebEEEEEE--XXX

  • No one, I mean NO ONE can top this!!!! XO

  • im so fucking amazed at her voice

and that drummer who beats the living shit of those drums ...nice

i feel all gooey with love now

    thanks deb

  • no doubt Clem was a big Keith Moon fan

  • WoW

  • my god! listen to that voice! she is belting out some of the most simple yet profoundly touching lyrics. what happened to pop music? it will come back around hopefully, but until then, i will be dreaming, dreaming is free

  • my god! listen to that voice! she is belting out some of the most simple yet profoundly touching lyrics. what happened to pop music? it will come back around hopefully, but until then, i will be dreaming, dreaming is free

  • Ah... The Glasgow Apollo, scene of so many fine moments like this one. Now a multi-plex cinema and crappy Austrailian theme pub !

  • Great live singer, unlike most these days who have to have studio effects to make them sound good.

  • Damn can she sing! Listen to the bridge starting at 1:25. Wow...

  • I BANGED HER

  • @csheen15 And then you woke up. =)

  • @csheen15 what ,did you get tired of the goddesses? "WINNING" yo charlie if this is really you, just jivin'

  • The original, the best and the sexiest sex kitten ever to breathe air,Lady booboo, this is what you can only dream about.

  • I'm sure if you look in the dictionary, the meaning of sex is Debbie Harry

  • I was madly in love with this woman when I got the first album. :-) they still sound great.

  • Brings back memories....Great appearance.

Deborah is one of a kind......the good kind. x

  • In days of old

    Whence Knights were bold,

    And Monkeys chewed T'abbacca...........

    Brillarooni

  • Looks like 6 people like lady gaga.

  • Most gay men just watch Blondie once and are cured instantly and permanently. After Debbie Harry; they love the women!

  • Comment removed

  • When I die I hope angels are at least 1/10th the beauty of Deborah Harry, then I'll spend the rest of eternity happy.

  • The synchrony of her singing "***I****" with the cymbal clash and guitar at 1:52 is just too good. Almost transcendental.

  • @DownNeptuneYour so right, that is dead on, so great

  • Pat Benetar, Joan Jett, Chrissie Hynde, and Ann Wilson rocked that decade and still do!... But I'll be damned if any chick today tries to get up and be "Blondie" Can't be repeated. Yeah Yeah Yeahs came close. Now we're stuck with..well you know

  • @TheEleventhIndian AMEN!!

  • @TheEleventhIndian Check out the Gossip or Best Coast. Girl in a Coma.

  • Such a beautiful song. The drums are so great.

  • Ridiculously great drumming...I thought this was gonna be the new york Apollo theater though

  • Awesome 

  • Damn the energy is awesome!! Blondie for life!!

  • Is this a dvd? Is it available in Canada? WTF!?! I MUST KNOW!!!

  • anna nicole smith sure tried to look like debbie harry rip

  • @jimmypage444 Nobody could ever look like Debbie except Debbie herself. On her worst day she is still the most talented and sexy woman to have ever graced a mic.

  • agreed

  • Why so much Gaga hate? It's not like she's trying to sound like Blondie anyhow...Karen O of Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Ana Matronic of Scissor Sisters are way more in the realm of Blondie-esque music than Lady Gaga.

  • One of their best songs.

  • Almost hard to remember a time when women in music could actually sing and not just show off their ass and tits and do some shitty dancing. Debby totally owns this pathetic generation of women in music today.

  • @dsfddsgh Absolutely spot on m8,couldni hav pit it better masel.

  • @dsfddsgh The days when they sang to gain fame. And didn't have to perform to distract us from their lack of vocal talent.

  • @dsfddsgh That's really not fair - there are plenty of women who produce awesome music today - they just don't get the same level of mainstream recognition that Blondie did and therefore are less visible.

  • Clem is a beast..what a drummer

  • This entire concert was just released on an official DVD. The video and audio quality of it is amazing and seeing the full concert gives you a much better perspective, particularly how the performance of each song builds off the previous one. You just don't see how the energy and momentum of the concert develops through isolated videos of each song. I've watch videos of this concert on YT many times, so I was surprised at how much better it is on the DVD.

  • @ihasch Can you tell me where can I find the DVD. Thanks...

  • @alucinamd25-It's called Blondie at the BBC. I had to order it from Amazon UK.

  • @ihasch thanks

  • This song is so hard to sing live! She ToTALLY pulled this off live. Amazing! !F'ing love her! Wish I was there! DH 4 ever!

  • What impresses me so much about this is that she is completely in tune and in time.... listen to bloody Gaga singing live and she is completely out of tune and time... Debbie - you're still magic.

  • @simonluckin8 Gaga is out of tune live? Not in anything I've heard.

  • @xXPinkGoddessXx Fuck off with this GaGa shit, enough already! That hack couldn't be a roadie for Debbie. now i'm pissed because I had to say gaga!

  • @blooddonor70 Hey, if people want to start tearing others down in order to build Debbie up (which is more of a negative assessment of her in THEIR minds, if anything) they should at least know something about the people they're slandering. And if they don't, I have a right to call them out on it.

  • Comment removed

  • @simonluckin8 What's worse is Gaga is considered a great singer compared to today's crop of pop singers like Ke$ha, Britney and Katy Perry. Sad times isn't it?

  • Comment removed

  • @dsfddsgh Gaga IS a great singer, she doesn't need to be compared to hacks like Kesha, Britney, or Katy, to be considered talented.

  • Just like to point out that, similar to the divine Marilyn, Ms. Harry is far, and I mean far more than the sum of her parts. Also like to mention that the drummer is off the fkn res on this song.

  • A Goddess

  • Fantastic!!

  • For real, insane good drumming.

  • I'm old! I was there! (Or the night before!)

  • @ODC771 I was there that night, up the back; aged 9!!!

  • Love her swimmie arms and kicky boots at the end!

  • i dont need to post anything its all said in the video lol

  • phenomenalphenomenalphenomenalphenomenalphenomenal

    phenomenalphenomenalphenomenalphenomenalphenomenal

    phenomenalphenomenal lov in it phenomenalphenomenal

    phenomenalphenomenalphenomenalphenomenalphenomenal

    phenomenalphenomenalphenomenalphenomenalphenomenal

  • I just saw Blondie live for the first time last year and they were amazing. Debbie still sounds fantastic. However, i would have loved to have seen them live in their prime.

  • Superb the very best! what a woman

  • Madonna could only dream about having what was natural in Debbie!

  • I miss the energy of this music in today's music. The late 70s, early 80s were a great time for musicians who honed their talent and music by working 3 -4 years in the clubs before making it big.

  • this is when music was music and the corporate machine still hadn't totally productized talent.

  • Comment removed

  • To heck with Debbie, the camera should have stayed on Clem. Drums FTW!

  • if i had a time machine, i'd go back and have sex with her in 1979. yeah that would be cool.

  • If you don't love this, there is something wrong with you. If you want to know why the queen of the angels chose chris stein, listen to his leads!

  • i was at this concert 31st dec 1979 i was 14 and loved up..

  • 31 years ago - thirty one years! I learn from this period.I actually think we have gone backwards since then.

  • What's with the golden suit?

  • @HarryPotter87 It's the lighting. It looks to be white with reddish or ?

Stage lighting has multiple colored lamps/filters and sometimes they do odd things.

  • @steadfastcoward Okay yellow and red. As to why, it's Debbie!

  • Da' Best Ever

  • Everyone, ENJOY.....being 16/17/18 years old now. I was 16 in 1979 and this song was being played LOUD......on the car radio cruising on the main drag at the time. If y'all enjoy yourselves now, you will have GREAT memories later.

  • The queen still has it. I saw Blondie last year and Debbie and the boys still have what it takes to bring a crowd to its feet.

  • The Original Punk Rock Queen. She even blew away most of the New Wave pretenders that came right after. There will never be another Deborah Harry.

  • No dam lip syncing here baby. No vocal or musical backing tracks either. REAL TALENT
