Kubrick is well known for putting subliminal messages, double meaning, and symbolism into his films. Part of his way of working really. Part of what made his films have such an impact.

If you think analysts like Ager are reading too much into Kubrick's films, then you are implying that the director's well documented obsession to detail and notoriously long shoots, led him to make only superficial films containing no mysteries.
