i think that it is much harder to do most of the tricks on wheels than blades being both a figure skater and inline figure skater. you dont have as much momentum from the ice, but i dont think they are supposed to be identical, similar but not identical. inline figure skating is more power, while figure skating is more grace.
Interesting. I was just watching figure skating vids when I came ucross this. I didn't know there were inline skating programs and competitions. Thanks for sharing. I've read some comments here and some people sound offended that this looks like figure skating, but does it really matter? Being inspired by each others disciplines isn't that bad, skating for example blends ballet moves and takes them to a new level. If people are enjoying themselves, let them. To each their own. :-)
oh, and might I add that I've never seen a roller skater properly tuck their legs for jumps? All of them that I've seen before wrap their legs. I don't understand why, if an ice figure skater can tuck their feet in a crossed position closely together, risking cutting themselves with the blade (it has happened many times before) then what is so scary about tucking your feet with only wheels attached?
can I ask you something please, I want to buy inline skates for the summer for not having enought time without ice skating. oh and for practise more! Is this a good idea? Will it help for the ice or it will be worst? please tell me!
if it wasn't a copy of ice skating, they wouldn't make them look like they had blades on. i'm sorry but it really does not look as good as ice skating, more a cheap immitation. fair enough if you like it, but still, to me it does. it still takes a lot of training, i can see that, so congrats if you can do any of this :). sorry if this sounds mean but it annoyed me off at first, now it looks like a bit of fun :D
omg i saw kristen at the 2008 perth national championships and she is just brilliant!! i aspire to be as good as her one day! cant wait to see her skate at the 2009 national championships in queensland! :)
Can we just agree on "Skating rocks"? I mean come on, no matter whether on the ice or on inliners, it looks great either way when it's performed the right way.. I personally like watching both, exactly because they are different, but similar. Just my two cents.
wow. she was really good. i don't understand how they could even get a double with the wrap of the leg, impressive in my opinion. but the wheels!! my god, i would be so scared. i'm sticking to figure skating. :)
go kristen! hey does anyone know what this song is? i need music for mynext routine and this song is brilliant! and btw, artistic is alot harder than figure skating... you try doing all the things in ice skating with a pair of 5kg skates on. kristen slade is a fantastic skater... go Australia!
Actually...this type of figure skating is much harder than skating on ice. (I know. I've done both.) Try to do a heel camel (or a "real" inverted camel(roller style) on ice. Don't think so... :)
I THINK, This sport is a bad copy of Figure Skating, i dont like this.. Figure Skating is way more graceful and this jumps are te same as Figure Skating. It looks so better if you do this on figrue skates..
We are not trying to copy figure skating. If you actually tried to inline skate you would realize that it is extremely different technically from ice skating. Comparing ice to roller is like comparing football to golf. They are completely different.
@champ07usa Why did you take camel spins, all six jumps, and three-turns from figure skating, then? Couldn't you have made up your own moves, not copied what figure skaters do? It doesn't matter if it's technically different, it looks like ice skating when you don't look at the rink and wheels. Yes, spins are done differently on wheels than a blade. But whoever invented artistic roller skating looked at a figure skater doing a sit spin and decided to copy that move with roller skates on.
I disagree i believe they each have equally different amounts of grace.. I believe rollerskating can be just as graceful if performed well. And i also believe figure skating can be less graceful.. It just really depends on how well the skaters perform.. thats what makes it more or less not the fact that its rollerskating or figureskating.. this was beautiful to watch even more so then some of the figure skaters i have watched b4 and I dont believe either is better ..but thats just my opinion. :)
Oh yeah, I agree with you too but I was just talking about this particular skater. She was pretty good, but the way her leg wrapped around on jumps wasnt pretty
Her bridge at the start had terrible posture, it wasnt straight and was very messy.

somehow the jumps seem more clumsy here than in figure skating.

excellent skills! it's very difficult and takes tons of time to perfect the elements that girl does.
by the way, what's with the front wheels? They are made from some special material or is some special sort of scates?
