The problem with 2MM was that it treated high school (and elementary and middle school) as a protracted process for university entrance. High school drop outs, high school graduates and college dropouts all have one thing in common: they have no job skills. And even many 4 year grads will move back with their parents for lack of employment with big debts. I did like and agree with the cultural points made in the film, though. I fear Newt's take would increase the divide.
What I tried to show in the first 2MM film was how our major economic competitors' children allocate their time in high school.
US K-12 education should provide the knowledge & skills necessary to be economically self-sufficient, to be a good citizen and to pursue a life of personal satisfaction.
Dropping out of school, not applying one's self in school or pursuing college studies without regard to career implications will result in a difficult life.
