  • There's used to be a ABC Cinema in Westgate Road in Newcastle, England

  • There is one ABC cinema remaining - in Bournemouth, just up the road from the Odeon.

  • does anyone know what the music is from?

  • I suspect they are all library tracks, but does anyone know the titles of any of the music used in this series?

They don't make them like this anymore! I have quite a few of these on 35mm rescued from a now demolished ABC

  • Hi, these are great! does anyone have the Classic/Cannon versions of these.

  • These are stunning and so clear, who did the TS for you. Do you have others and can I get a avi of this upload to use them. You are a star sir..

  • Many thanks for posting these, takes me right back! As you say, they are from the same set as the 'escape to the cinema' from the early '80's. They came in after the silent titles with the red crumpled silk background and were used up untill Cannon took over. They were the first set with a Dolby stereo soundtack.

  • These are great thanks Woods for posting them.

I think from my knowledge of the ABC circuit these probably date back from when the brand re-appeared in the mid-late 1990's. ABC was bought from EMI in '86 and became part of the Cannon Group, making it the biggest cinema chain in the UK. This was then rescued around 1993 by MGM who inturn sold out with some theatres becoming part of Branson's Virgin Cinema's and other being part of consortium using the ABC Cinema brandname.,

  • These look great where did you get these from?

  • Hi A friend has them on 35mm

  • @woods2121 It's nice to know people save these things.

  • I thought most of the ABC cinemas were long gone in the late '80s.

  • I think you're right it could be early 80's are the late 90's before it was joined with Odeon

  • I think those titles were used from 1978-1982 before the ABC Escape to the Cinema promo 1982-1987 was introduced

  • Tey became part of ODEON in 2001/2

  • These titles date from 1985-6 when Thorn EMI sold Screen Entertainment to its Management and the red ABC triangle branding re-appeared on publicity. Sadly Cannon scuppered the deal and the ABC name had gone by 1987. It came back in 1996 with the red triangle and the cinemas were rebranded this time too.

  • hi im really interested in ABC cinema adverts please can you contact me thanks on 07794868970 Andy

  • @woods2121 No, there was one in Plymouth until late 90s I used to go all the time ('cos it was cheaper than Odeon)
