actually the original version is with a 12-string with a capo on the 7th fret to get the right sound,

you might find this easier if you put a capo over the 7th fret. By doing this it emulates playing at the first fret because all of the chords are open chords but moved up.

Hi. i have a question and i would reallllllllllllly appreciate it if you guys could help me out here :( i am trying to combine many musical instruments e.g: drums, guitars...etc and make them into one song, i only play alone so i would be the one doing all the work. I have seen many youtube videos with some guys press a button and record a verse for example, and it magically keeps repeating itself throughout the whole song, using some kind of tool of course. how do i do that? :(

If you take all of the comments about cheating whilst playing the guitar (ie the capo), then you could take it to the extreme of ALL the things on a guitar are cheating. The top nut should not be there, because that makes it easier to play. The frets are there to help you too, so they should not be on the neck. How far do you really want to go into it? Should Joe Walsh go in and have all the skin removed from his finger, so he can use the bare bone instead of a slide (Bottle Neck) ?

If the guy who wrote it used a capo on it, then why is it cheating to use one while you play it? Glen Frey and Don Felder both had capo's on their guitars whilst playing it live. You can knock a nail into wood with your hand, but it's much easier and quicker with a hammer. Tools of ease.

What's with the debate on capos? Don Felder played this song on a twelve sting guitar with a capo on the 7th fret on the original version. Watch the live version from 1976. Don plays a double neck with the twelve string neck capoed. Would you any of you accuse the guy who wrote all the music (including drums and bass) to this awesome song of cheating? Capos are a great tool for quickly and easily changing keys and making interesting sounds. However, on any song where it is possible to play it without, its cheating. Doesn't mean i won't still do it. But using a capo on a song like this is the equivalent of using stabilizers :P

There is no such thing as "cheating" with a capo. A capo is a tool, just like a pick. Use it to change the baseline tuning of a guitar without having to physically adjust the strings. A mandatory piece of equipment for any decent guitarist.

thats what I meant, a double neck guitar is a 12 string guitar neck (above) and a regular guitar neck (below) on one single guitar body, in this song they use a capo on the 12 string guitar which is one of the guitars on the gibson double neck guitar they use, so yes, in that sense, you are right buddy

This is a very basic cover of the song and not how it is done on the studio verision. In fact, this lesson is the hard way of playing it. The studio verision uses 2 guitars, 1 with capo on 7th fret and 1 with capo on 2nd fret. Note that he does this on 6 string but the Eagles use 12 strings. You think barring at 7th is hard using a 6 string...hehe... try it using a 12 string and see how long you last. Great exercise though...

Most of the folks out there play the basic chords (i.e. Bm and F# barred at the 2nd fret, then D, A, E, etc..). What you are doing is closer to the right way, but I find it easier to just capo to the 7th fret and play (sort of) Em, B7, D, A, C, G, B7.. The fingering is slightly different than playing the actual traditional chord (i.e the "D" doesn't include the pinky note) but it would be too difficult to post the tab here (and I'm too lazy). But at least this is closer to the real sound.
