  • At one time there were 3 BAHAMAS slides on the board

  • @danbarker39 What would happen if you landed on it twice then?

  • Is Dave the first player to hit the BIG BUCKS square?

  • Why did Shirley pass so fast?

  • @nextbarker she must've been afraid of whammying.

  • Am I right about that, the whammy SFX was introduced the week later?

  • I beliegve the whammy SFX was added.... a week later?

  • This lacks the whammy sound affect!

  • Love the off-white $2000 spaces!

  • I don't want to spoil anything, but was Robert the first player to exceed $25,000?

  • I think it was Randy West.

  • Nope it was Robert he retired the next day NAD he was first to be on 4 shows

  • He probably was, because the next show available among traders is Episode 7, which shows three new players.

  • This board seems a bit buggy for some reason, it doesn't kind of react quickly to the buzzer somewhat. If you look closely, you'll see what I mean.

  • notice that at 1:30 - 1:30 when the board starts to spin it shifts very oddly

  • Players passed very quickly during the eraly months of PYL.

  • Yes, and the players also spun alot faster too.

  • Hard to believe its 25 years that Press Your Luck Was On CBS i was 9 and i love it watch it with my Grandma Who not here anymore!

    RIP Peter!!!!!

    From Kirsten

  • I think it was a week after the show the whammy sound debuted.

  • anyone notice how at 2:39, when that spin started, square 9 was black? what would have happened if he stopped it on the black square?

  • they would stop tape and do it again i think

  • Was it around 84 when they also changed the buzzers?

  • funfling day?

  • I love that board sound. It should have been used for the entire series.

  • Only from the pilot until the end of the first season was that board sound pitch used. It was raised a little for the rest of the show's run.

  • There was no whammy noise yet when the whammy was hit. when did that debut?

  • Probably along with everything else in November 1983.

  • What happened the the losing music once u hit the Whammy?

  • I think the pass sound here is the CBS sound here on most CBS game shows

  • 1983 wasa good year

  • Is that pass sound the ding from the $100,000 Pyramid?

  • And The Price is Right, and about a million other shows.

  • That's because they were CBS game shows; CBS always used that sound effect; it's their signature sound effect.

  • Nice board sound!

  • Used on the pilot and on the regular series until November 1983.

  • Thanks nextbarker for posting this early episode of PYL!!! I really enjoyed watching it. This is my favorite gameshow, but I was just about 4 months old when these premiere episodes were on the air. If you could, please post more earlier episodes, so I could watch them (for me, it will be the first time). Once again, thanks!!

  • VERY interesting! I'm hungry for more of these '83 eps myself! It's a lot of fun to see the early days of the show!

  • It prolly turned bright green because both the $1000 (blue) and the whammy were shown in the same screen. But yeah it's different.

  • When Dave spun, did the $1000 turn white during his 2nd spin?

  • You can tell that the board was really problematic at that point. Squares were out once in a while and the light pattern changed erratically, especially when Robert takes his spin at 4:41, you can see the light jump to a new pattern.

  • You can also see a light jump at 3:42.

  • Light jump?

  • As in the light jumping from one pattern to another in the middle of the pattern.

  • where are u looking?

  • Okay, there are 5 patterns of 18 squares, each being hit once before a new pattern begins.

  • With the top left corner as square #1 and going clockwise, Pattern #1 is:

    11,6,10,12,1,4,14,16,2,9,17,8,13,15,3,7,18,5

  • Pattern #2:

    18,16,10,5,11,9,2,13,17,7,4,15,12,8,6,3,1,14

  • Pattern #3:

    5,18,11,13,3,6,15,7,1,9,14,16,10,2,4,12,17,8

  • Pattern #4:

    17,10,15,13,2,8,18,16,12,3,5,11,7,4,1,9,14,6

  • Pattern #5:

    3,16,13,10,18,8,6,14,7,5,15,11,17,2,12,1,9,4

(sorry for doing it this way, Youtube won't let me put it all together)

  • The spin taken at 3:43 starts off with the 11-6-10-12 pattern (pattern #1, in this example). It goes for 7 squares, then when it's at square #14, it switches to the middle of the 5-18-11-13 pattern (pattern #3). It goes from square #14 to square #15, also the 7th square in the sequence, and continues to square 7, 1, 9, 14, etc. until Robert stops on square #4, for $4,000 + a spin.

  • There were only a few more spaces with extra spins in round two than there were in round one.

  • u dont see 1200 any more neither 1500 2000 2500 in #8 instead of 500+ 750+ 1000+ or white squares

  • None yet

  • I know the 1986 Vids are hard to find too do you have any of those?

  • I guess from September to Late october, no idea.

  • sorry, right nw I have no more 1983 episodes currently.

  • I will, but these 1983 episodes are hard to fine.

  • When did they have the red background behind the contestants?

  • are you talking about the backwall on the set behind the board or that short time they had red tiles in the audience behind the players in the PYL Rounds?

  • Waooo thank you,put more please!!!
