  • can kirt of the so called AWESOME FAMOUS METALLICA..do this?....NEVER!!!

  • Robert can shred..but damn he needs to get hooked on phonics.

  • Really refreshing to see somebody who can actually shred demo shit on da innanets...

  • epic

  • And the first saddest is what...? D minor? lolol

  • The 3rd saddest of all keys...ha

  • This is my most favorite demo of all time \m/

  • @joefsatriani - Thanks... Robert is a great teacher as well as a great player.

  • Wow..

  • @GuitarLoverHW - Words can not describe how fun this thing is... lol

  • You would look like a an idiot waving your hand and your guitar at that thing on stage. This stuff belongs in Yanni's band.

  • what is a guitar modeling processor? compared to effect and synthersizer?

  • @shawking - The lines are blurred. And many of the same processing engines in the Boss and Roland lines. The best thing to do is get your self in front of them and play. I have a set up where I tied the VG99 & the GR-20 together. For piano, sax, & other now guitar sounds like keyboard pads, I use the GR-20. But if I want one guitar to sound like an acoustic & a electric together, the the VG99. The VG-99 allows guitar & amp modeling, Which is where you cross over into the boss effects.

  • @rodneyray haha i still dont get it.... you mean you use the vg99 if you want to combine acoustic and electric sound together? sorry, all i know is multi-effects processor and guitar synthesizer... :) but thanks for the info!! ;)

  • @rodneyray I have a VG99, which is supposed to do guitar to midi, but it's guitar to MIDI is a little off - is the GR-20 better at this? I am trying to control Native Instruments stuff on my computer through a midi express, tryign to find the best interface to do this.

  • You said Gminor is the 3rd saddest chord, what is the saddest?

  • he works at the guitar shop right next to my house :)

  • Too thin strings

  • OMG He just said Keith Richards!!?? And poor guy, somebody distracted him playing the piano? But very good video, thanks!!

  • that's true, G minor is the saddest of all keys, but it sounds more like F #

  • I found this for patches

    vg-99patches com

  • ERUPTION

  • I love roland

  • What guitar is he using?

  • Is it possible to connect the VG-99 to a footswitch? much easier live.. =D

  • @kirkfaan - I'm using the FC-300 - MIDI Foot Controller. It's my understanding any midi board will work. The FC-300 is a tank. A little on the heavy side.

  • @rodneyray ...as an added bonus the footpedal can be used to control MIDI units, amps, lights, the scope is enormous...so it's really versatile. Not so much a foot-pedal as a control system. Would you agree?

  • @wesmatron - True... I have seen a "1-Man-Band" using the VG-99, GR-20?? & midi foot pedal to control the Roland gear as well as his drum machine. Over the top for me, but he made it all work.

  • its a nice idea but completely impractical and i'm guessing shit can go wrong on stage quick. which is a big no.

  • @jamesmania99 thats where lots of experience comes in handy

  • Awesome guitar playing but the VG sounds are so fake sounding. Need a real tube amp with tube overdrive(No fake dist/od boxes) for the real tone(Fender,Marshall,Mesa,Orange,Bogner,etc...). Strat sound was absolutely horrible. check out the strat sound on the Fender Hot Rod blues jr videos. thats how a strat is supposed to sound. Roland VG-99 Thumbs down!!!! Horrible!!!

  • I realise this is a demo video and that Robert probably uses a real nice amp when performing. just expressing my opinion.

  • Roland VG-99

  • he's swedish , am I right?

  • @Canizarezqw - it's my understanding. Yes.

  • @Canizarezqw it says it at the end.. haha

  • D minor is the saddest of all keys. Something about it just makes people weep instantly.

  • I dont know HOW great guitarist Robert is!This video gave me a lot.

  • pretty amazing tool. rob is awesome as always, one of the best around today

  • Now that's not to say that digital effects don't have their place, I myself have used delay and chorus on certain small parts of songs when I am recording something that requires the textures of modulation effects on a dramatic opening arpeggio intro, but the amp modeling is 3rd rate, the fully digital signal is sterile and emotionless, and the synthesis of turning a guitar to a virtual instrument yields a dull boring sound. I wish I could afford Effectrode tube pedals, even for chorus and vibe.

  • This guy could make me fucking cry real tears by simply playing a solid mahogany guitar with passive pickups in to a cranked all-tube amp, only sweeping in moderation, but also playing melodies and chords, straight in to a broken up plexi with not a pedal or processor in sight. This stuff however, to me it just sounds like a computer generated simulation of virtual instruments and midi voices, and the digitized sound fails miserably to invoke any kind of emotion in me. I just don't see the point

  • Fascinating....

  • the modeling doesn't sound any better than an fx box

  • man I wish I could sweep!!

  • Rob is so modest. Looks up to Keith Richards...wow!!!!

  • 7:11 <3 <3 <3

  • hey this freak play's as palmal steam

    as so bad man huah

  • @liamzuid

The key to my Golf II

  • @arebegai Lol

  • what is the most saddest key than?

  • @liamzuid A minor

  • I would like a list.

  • 4.28 thats an amazing tune...awsome!!!

  • are these things hard to figure out, and for example, in a live situation can you change "channels" on this thing easily

  • @guitarsbunch347 - Like any pedal it can be as easy (or difficult) as you want it to be. Ready to go out of the box (need GK3/GK2 Pickup) Tons of presets. But you can add your own preset. The fun for me is twicking or adding my own sounds. The more you twick the easier it gets. Everyone responds to technology differently.

  • @guitarsbunch347 Ii appears really complicated at first. Especially if you are used to the immediacy of stomp-boxes, but with a little practice you can set up sounds very quickly...then move effects in the chain etc....soon you'll be faster than a stomp-box wizzard :)

  • i love you rob marcello

  • I've been wasting my time looking at seperate modelers and MIDI synths.

  • just got my vg99.and its sounds amazing....

  • Do you use the GK-3 with it?

  • no im still waiting for the gk3(10-14 days)

  • where can I get one of those pick up things to install it in my midi rig and then have some awesome synths?

  • You need a GR-## Or a VG-## to use the GK-3 pickup. (or that is my understanding) Any Roland dealer can order one up for you. Hit the Roland USA web site for more details.

  • Wow keith Richards ??? Kool he likes Keith ....Though Rob Is 10000 times better

  • hey guys the VG 99 is advanced and the expensive where else the GR 20 is a basic model and has a reasonable price...

  • The VG 99 & GR 20 are two different types of boxs. Head down to your local Roland dealer and try them out.

  • Ahh, I heard some Danger Danger in him. I wasn't sure though. I think that Andy is proud to have Robert playing quite a few of his songs.

  • I dunno wheather i want a VG-99 or Gr20 which one is better?

  • Completely different animals. Go to your local Roland dealer and spent time on them.

  • 5:30bluegrass on an electric guitar

  • ehhh he started off kinda bluesy...5:38 is more of a bluegrass feel

  • Robert Marcello is severely overlooked. What a great guitarist.

  • @bloobear1 totally agree. So is Kiko Loureiro

  • @shredmetalmike Oh yeah, he's a very good player. I like his use of the whammy bar for expression but one of my fav players has to be Jason Becker

  • @bloobear1 Was just gonna say, never heard of this guy until I was looking for a review of this unit, and I love his playing. He's incredible. Gonna look up his work for sure now.

  • @bloobear1 he's one of the geniuses!!!

  • I just got this device last month and he shows a good overview of its capabilities but there's so much more it's ridiculous: guitar-to-midi, USB recording, check out the patches done by Bill Ruppert (search for baranger1 on youtube) for an idea of what you can just with a guitar and this box.

  • that's the most hi tech guitar processor i've ever seen..the most great feature of this guitar is the d beam and the freeze.

  • I can't understand why Roland doesn't use this tech for their guitar synths. It definitely will works better than current MIDI based guitar synths they have.

  • agree bro..its better tech

  • Hello Mr indrakuda :) Yes, it's not just better in terms of sound quality, but, most importantly, playability, feel and playing technique support, which definitely what even the best MIDI guitars lack of. This is what caused guitar synthesis never made it into mainstream, unlike the sequencer or keyboard based synthesis..

  • what about the price..?

  • Around $1200 i think ^^' (woot?!) :D Well, with such a price it won't hurt to have, say, violin or sax or GR-300 modeling, right ? I know they all are a matter of algorithms only without adding components. Too bad Roland doesn't seem to think so..

  • Speechless about he price..hehehe

  • Excellent demo! -Derek

  • Rob is awesome. This VG 99 sounds like a rockin product

  • Is true . Gm is a very "sad" key , but Rob is tune a half tone down , so when he said Gm actually is Gbm ( and when he said F is actually E ).

Love the way he play .

  • that thing is sweet haha

  • is this guy name ygnwie gilbert?(hes great though)

  • Could this imitate the sound of the synth in Jump by Van Halen?

  • There are some synth sounds built in as well as midi in and outs. Hit up your local Roland dealer and spend some time on it.

  • But from the patch list i've downloaded there's no 'standard' synth patch like piano or brass ? So there's no chance getting a full expressive response from these kind of sounds, as it only available through MIDI out..*sigh*

  • This guy looks like he's stuck in the 80's. He's pretty damn good though.

  • i remember a video where he said "i love 80's heavy metal as you can see with my hair" ^^

  • yes u buy a geet with a builtin gk 2. the gk 3 is cool and everybody always wants to know more about it and ur gear

  • All great but the GK pickup doesn't look good. Is there a way to hide the wires at least?

  • Godin makes a controller guitars. Fender has a Roland Ready Strat. Both are a clean install.

  • dude, it does look great...what are u talking about? that is the real fun to have weird shit like that hooked up to ur guitar....just hook it up and most of ur friends will shit their pants just to see all that fancy complicated stuff hooked up with ur guitar...lol Great to inspire ur friends man, they will get so inspired to see u messing with complicated stuff like that...lol

  • I like how you find positives in things =D my guitar is like a freaking wire spool, i have modded things for custom effects without pedals

  • so am i able to tune the guitar any way id like through the pedal?

like just pic a string, pic a note and itl do it??

  • Yes.. If I remember right, I think it is a two octave range. Check with your dealer to be sure.

  • will do

    cheers

  • 4:29,can anyone tell me if this is a song and whats the name of it?

  • Sorry, have no idea.

  • lol, he almost mentioned BOSS lol hahaha

    1:38

  • He demos both Boss & Roland. Same company, two brand name.

  • How the hell are you supposed to do that on stage? I like my petals on the ground. I looks like the "convenient" features are actually a pain.

  • I'm using the FC-300 - MIDI Foot Controller

  • Ahh, so they have separate petals! Thats a relief. Thanks

  • Holy shit!!! That dude is a fucking beast on the guitar. He can play just about any style!

  • lol that thing is fucking crazy, so much better then the gr-20

  • for some reason he reminds me of Paul Gilbert! HaHa.. Rob Marcello is great! Roland is great too!

  • NOOO FUCKING WAY!!! i dont have to learn sitar now? Roland your are offically my #1 brand now. you kick serious ass!!

  • He's just playing it with phrygian dominant

  • Wow, I have never ever been a multi-effects processor man, but this has sold me. This is the most impressive technology I've ever witnessed for a guitar. Now if only I had the money for one haha...

  • I'm not too impressed with it. I'd much rather go with the GT-10 and the RP-20 hooked together, but individual pedals typically do sound better then processors.

  • dude

  • Robert plays great! Don`t need all that stuff...

I Think that tricks are going over music... in a few years we will be able to play every instrument at the same time... we won´t need anybody around haha...

    Anyway... I prefer Line6 POD.

    Good luck to all.

  • Line 6 makes some great gear, no doubt about that. Technology is all well and good, but the heart of the music is in the hands. Nothing can replace practice.

  • You are right my friend.

  • 100% correct

  • that visible hand whammy is awesome

  • i'm enthusiast about playin with the sax sounds and stuff, but i'm not that sure about the quality of the distortions.. ?

  • The VG-99 uses the same chip set as the GT-10. So the sound quality is there. Stop by your Roland dealer and test drive one.

  • so, the BOSS kinda has the Roland quitar sounds, except the midi stuff, riqht ?

  • Correct, the GT-10 is Boss. Both units are great, but different. They both use the same chip set, but differently. Both are 24 bit. Both allow you to taylor your sound. The VG-99 gives you more flexibility, but not everyone needs it.

  • kaoss pad would work better than walking over the machine

if u had the kaoss attached to the guitar like matt ballamy

  • robert's such a nice person. i took some pix with him and asked him some questions when he was in KL last year

  • that has to be the most versatile piece of equipment i've ever seen!

  • You need to sit down with one and just play with it. It is a very cool box.

  • muchos efectos

    y cosas nuevas

    pero creo que lo principal

es el sonido que pueden dar

    los efectos.

    tendria que probar uno para

    ver como suenaa

  • I just tried one of these locally for about 10 minutes and I am so getting this thing asap! They have to order a GK-3 pickup for me though..I might get the VG-99 while I'm waiting anyway since you can technically use it w/o the special pickup..you just don't get all the features. I don't even care that much about the ribbon controller or D Beam. The guitar modelling is what sold me!

  • love the keith richards tone...and the little wing at the end is awesome also!

  • Nice work.

  • distortion simulations arent as cool as real tube amps, so I think that just for effects this thing is pretty expensive

  • And real tube amps aren't?

  • Some of them

  • no one would buy it just for the modulation/simulation/distortion effects, ppl would buy it for the huge range of super awesome stuff u can do with it, dnt you think so?

  • Correct... Boss has several pedals if that is all you want. (& they do not require the GK pickup)

  • On one of the demo's Robert hooked up the VG-99 to a Mesa 50/50 and into two Mesa cabs. Warmed up the AG-99. Took it to that next level. It would be the way I would hook it up to record.

  • los sweeps le salen tan fluidos! maldito dios

  • yo no escribi eso..

  • 操,你太牛了,佩服

  • I also wanted to say a quick THANKS for sharing. I am always looking for vids / info on the VG-99. I was also happy to see that Rob is a cool guy as well as being a hell of a guitar player. Love him (as well as crazy ass Johnny) in the Roland vids.

  • This guy is a world class player,Xcellent!!!!

  • Kick ass demo! The VG-99 is absolutely going to be my next purchase!! I just hate the fact that the GK-3 doesn't come with it.

  • You can get the VG-99 with or with out the GK-3. When I bought mine I got it with the GK-3. Cool unit.

  • You are correct. I did see that Roland does have a "package" deal. Anyway, I took the plunge over the weekend and bought a VG-99 for 888.00 (yes. This is BRAND NEW and a killer deal!!) plus 25 for shipping and a GK-3 for around 132.00 plus 20 extra for the TAX and shipping. Looking foward to jamming with this equipment.

  • So does anybody else find it at all funny that Rob Marcello's fav. guitar guy is Keith Richards? .......I mean not Yngwie? really?

not Paul gilbert? Not Vinnie Moore, or Satch, DiMeola, or Vai? ..........I mean have ya heard Marcello play? Not exactly blues rock, ya know..........................

  • Keith RULES!

  • Yeah rob I agree, Keith does rule!!!

So do you, keep up the awsome playing!!!(the shred and the "keef" rock)

    P.

  • pretty cool part from 6:07 to 6:35

  • pretty cool but is there a way to control the d beam stuff with your foot.

In a gig i use both hands to play guitar so i wont have a spare one to mess around with the d beam or whatever

  • The FC-300 midi pedal can be hooked up to the VG-99. You can assign the expression peddle to control various parameters.

You can use the VG-99 on the floor as well.

  • so what?

  • so it was COOL!

  • i got ya

  • why do they always have these guys that just shred....

  • yeah that is true!

They only really have shred people.

Skill is also in feeling the music that one plays as opposed to just technical proficiency.

  • Shredders whether you like it or not are knowledgeable guitarists. Why would a company that specifically sells gear risk their product at the knowledge of anyone lesser? No one would take the product seriously if Willy Nelson was demonstrating on it.

  • Awesome demonstration! I wonder if he also played on the Angel Down record with Sebastian Bach??

  • in the studio he does.:p

  • all fine and dandy...... BUT... does Robby baby..... actually USE the VG99 on stage as part of his rig? hmmm? eh? eh? eh?
