This is what I used on the Existential Debut video, wmv, proggressive, CBR, windows media video 9 advanced profile, HD 1280x720, 30fps, video smoothness (100%), bit rate internet/Lan 10mb. It may or may not work for everyone, but it works for me so...! On all my other videos I used the same settings, but with 1024x768 image size.
What video screen capture software are you using and how much did it cost? Did it come with Sony Vegas? Is that the best resolution of the program or did you just turn it down to save on file size?
I used the quick capture feature on youtube. You can't edit or anything, but you click record and it saves directly on Youtube. Yes, it's the best quality the poor thing can muster.
that is definitely helpful - but an easier way for me, personally, is just to edit the file in Vegas and process it through iMovie, which does that automatically for me. Then again, not everyone has a Mac.
When you matched your media settings with a video from your camera, what was the resolution showing up as in Vegas, I can't tell from this video?
If it doesn't match the same aspect ratio of the final result(if it isn't 640x360, 1280x720, or 1920x1080) it will be letterboxed. If your source video is 16:9 then it shouldn't be neccessary to do any cropping. Since I pull video from 4:3 I must crop from 640x480 to 640x360 to get 16:9.
One more thing, when in render as, if you are using one of the templates, click custom and be sure that remove 29.97 fps and change it to 30 frames per second.
Right, it records in widescreen, and so I don't need to resize. I know that some people shoot in 4:3, so I thought I'd include how to do that. I'm pretty sure mine shoots at 1440 x 1080 on the SD setting I'm using.

yea, but your video doesn't fit the widescreen format.

Again, because I used quick capture and didn't edit.

That's my method, though double rendering cannot be the best option.

Are you using Sony Vegas Pro?

Not sure if it's Pro, it's Sony Vegas 7.

I usually change the 29.97 fps to 60 fps.

1440x1080 isn't full 16:9, check your Youtube email, I'd like to look at your source video directly from the camera.
