if god is omnipotent and he knows everything, he himself knows the results of our actions. why is he judging on something he already knows? why does he test us if he knows we are doomed? isn't that a bit cruel? Because it doesn't sound like unconditional love to me
no bullshit bible quotes or some made up logic an actual answer would be nice :) thanks!
@mikeymoo27 ( PART 1) Yes God is transcendent and his perspective allows him to see all of human history in a glance. Due to His perspective he knows what you will FREELY chose to do tomorrow, he sees that today. Just because God knew in advance you were going to cheat on your English exam doesn’t mean you are now relived of culpability of your actions, that doesn’t follow at all.
@mikeymoo27 God’s purpose for all humanity to be restored and reconciled through Christ death on a Cross which is the vehicle that God offers forgiveness and reconciliation, not only that but we would also be conformed into the image of his son in character and a large part of character growth is testing
@mikeymoo27 I think you're confusing the nature of judgement with the nature of knowledge. Supposing I know my child will eat a cookie from the cookie jar despite my vehement warnings to the contrary, does that then mean my child should not be punished for his actions? Well of course not. In that same way, whilst God might know that we will rebel against him despite his efforts, it in no way excuses our rebellion.
GOD doesn't predestine anyone so HE doesn't know what will happen to that person. There is also many dimensions. For example dim A is where you married your wife but dim B is where you didn't so there are many different paths that you could take.
Besides at least the bible says something about atoms.
It`s nice to have a wholly logical philosophy to defend yourself against incoherent atheists.
The argument really is simple. An infinite series cannot exist. Because it has no beginning, and therefore no series. Therefore infinity must be nothing. And where there is a series, it must be finite, and must have the transcendent infinite as the cause.
@ParadoxEternal Take the series 1, 2, 3, 4, This series has a beginning. I can expand this series by adding an element with the value that is 1 greater than the last element thus far. Name any number from this series and I will show you that you can expand the series further, in infinity. The conclusion is really simple: Infinite series DO exist. Therefore infinity cannot be nothing. Both premisses of your argument fail, therefore your conclusion is logically not true.
@ILikeEpicurus the issue there is the series your talking about isn't an actual infinite, it is is potentially infinite in that it begins and is possible it goes on forever. what Paradox is talking about is a true infinite set in which there is no beggining and no end.
@Falcondick69 shifting the definition of an infinite is like cheating. The series I'm talking about is an actual infinite that absolutely undeniably goes to infinity. I'll give you credit for the last definition: something without beginning and without end is infinite. Expand my series on the negative side {..., -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, ...} and I have the same (I didn't want to make it too difficult in my first comment), in your definition a true infinite set that does exist.
@ILikeEpicurus an infinite set ie one with no beggining doesn't actually exist, since the universe has a beggining everything that is within the universe has a beggining since everything in the universe had to come into being after the universe began to exist. so an infinite set like your trying to claim does not exist in reality.
I feel both encouraged and I feel hopelessly incompetent when I hear this man speak. He is incredibly smart and has super rational reasoning, with great arguments.
I bet he didn't get that by watching YouTube and such. I need to reconsider the way I spend my time.
I can't help but feel that Craig got the title of his book wrong. Shouldn't it be En Garde instead of On Guard? After all it is a French saying in English.
@trickjacko You serious? you gotta get your hands on them brother! Is it possible for you to just order them online? I live close to Mexico by the way (Texas).
@drcraigvideos Agreed. I'm starting to go to a new Church today. Weather they want to do it with me or not, I'm going to buy all the material I can including this DVD and get a local reasonable faith started in my community.
I agree. If people just watch everything on here then there isn't going to be as many funds raised for Craig's ministry. Of course some atheists are going to jump on that because the idea of people donating to a Christian ministry is just evil in their eyes for some reason and because they don't value what Craig does they think that no one else should either.
@drcraigvideos I was going to purchase once of dr. craig's books, but i'm tight on cash right now. I was thinking either on guard or reasonable faith. Can you suggest which you would get first if you were in my position? (i presume you have both these books). I just came across dr. craig and i would really like to support this awesome apologist!
In response to his comment about God's ultimate purpose for life not being happiness in this life: I'm curious as to the effect the thinking of Tom Wright would have on this.
Great stuff! This video made me think about the music videos produced by melodysheep; where the ideas of some of the worlds leading naturalists/atheists are being portrayed as though they were singing. Someone should do the same with WLC! I can just imagine William singing about purpose of Life, Cosmology, Morals, Lack of atheist arguments, and resurrection of Jesus. :D
