Yes over time this would reduce the burden on tuition fees so that we're not paying through taxes, instead individuals will be paying through loans and it will be the future professionals who bare the burden (if they can afford it!).
@johnfox3 If tuition fees are set to rise so highly then one would assume that a profit could be made on each student, so why not have higher earners (i.e. those studying for a medical career) paying more than others such as teachers, nurses etc. Also, some degree courses such as history cost much less to provide, so why should these students also have to pay these revised fees?

If your saying future proffesionals cant afford their degrees then why would the taxpayer be able too? - I think somtimes people forget that public money dosent exist, its all private derived from taxation. The buget Deficit tells us we cant afford to spend at current levels.

@johnfox3 is it just me or am I the only one who thinks raising the tuition fees is going to do nothing for society? We increase the fees, but any money that is made will be privatised and be forced out of the system anyhow.

@johnfox3 Fees go to the universities, but none of the profits made by universities goes back to funding public services. Yes over time this would reduce the burden on tuition fees so that we're not paying through taxes, instead individuals will be paying through loans and it will be the future professionals who bare the burden (if they can afford it!).

@johnfox3 If tuition fees are set to rise so highly then one would assume that a profit could be made on each student, so why not have higher earners (i.e. those studying for a medical career) paying more than others such as teachers, nurses etc. Also, some degree courses such as history cost much less to provide, so why should these students also have to pay these revised fees?

@kitterik I'll reply to both your questions here. The second point you raise is valid, but is a diffrent debate - personally I think what your saying makes sense. the former dosent make sense. If your saying future proffesionals cant afford their degrees then why would the taxpayer be able too? - I think somtimes people forget that public money dosent exist, its all private derived from taxation. The buget Deficit tells us we cant afford to spend at current levels.

Ok, less affluent families will have less opportunity for higher education and this is negative because intelligence isn't always necessarily correlated to wealth (although improved education is!). But the obvious advantages are more trade labour and less public spending. Maybe we will be seeing more college graduates going to America to complete their degrees then

@johnfox3 the only reason I could personally see them being given more opportunity is through a reduced competition in the number of places available, but surely the increased fees makes the whole experience more expensive and thus less affordable, without having even taken living costs into account? Please explain to me why less affluent individuals will be given more opportunity, I'm not saying your wrong I just don't understand the reasoning

@kitterik Fees are paid for though the tuition fees system, nobody pays a penny upfront. Under the new system there are more grants for lower income backgrounds - thus poorer students wil lbe better off than now.

People out of work so go back into education to better themselves and the Conservatives put up the fees so no one can afford a decent education any more so they are unemployed and can not afford the fees to go get an education. @face999 the fees dont prevent anyone form affording a decent education, its all student debt which only has to be paid back when people earn of 20k. - Im surprised you dont know this. either way its debt, had it not been channeled though tuition fees it would be goverment debt instead which is unfair to taxpayers, particualy poorer members of socity who choose not to go to university.
