Hey, I am looking into this game, looks pretty sick. I like working in groups like this, and the official feel sounds cool, are there still battles and groups like this?
@Skywarp111 I played PS while it was at a peak, but declining population. It's even today just a solid game. If the pop never dwindled I'd be spending the $120 a year now to play it. I hope the population comes back up we need new players.

Whenever you post something like "I used to love playing this game, too bad it sucks now" that's another person who wont play Planetside.
Those were the days. Such a shame PlanetSide is no longer the game it used to be. The great outfits have disbanded, the zones are largely empty, the heart is no longer in it. A pity that dice-rolling MMO's have dominated the market these days, and the great war games like PlanetSide were just swept aside. It's a great concept and I've never had more fun gaming. All gaming has to offer these days is dummed down click-and-watch grindfests - the devolution of gaming I call it...
@TCoops What happened to the game? Some corporate company bought it and ruined the game or something? I don't see how all these other boring Korean MMORPGs that are complete grind fest is more successful.

@bobreaf This game was epic. I still remember looking down the hill and literally 50 Tanks fighting...not to forget all the infantry and air vehicles trying to attack the base. It was so epic!

@UtubeH8tr from what i have heard from most in the outfit is that for the most part they have disbanded and moved to other games. still plenty of great NC outifts there however.

Nah, i kinda see what jc is saying. My brother said he played with SG in that game. They were seriously dedicated and good at it. I can see what he's saying because my brother was all over forums. But I only played PS as an indie and sometimes ran into SG squads.
VS I respect. The last time I played the game consistently was as a cloaker. I watched other empires (and got a few OSes in). In order to defeat the enemy you must learn their tactics. VS us the router to great effect. TR on occasion, and NC hardly. Also, I am tired of the bitching about the uneven advantages of the weapons. They created each empire to have strong and weakpoints. NC=HitHard. VS:MoveFast. TR:Let The Storm of Bullets Come! My first kill in the game was a VS max w/ scat ;)
this kind of organization did win battles but then it wasnt the zerg rush that made pside great. i believe these guys were on Emerald and I played TR Emerald and I never saw them. I was in a rag-tag outfit called Grolley and I had more fun with those guys then I'm sure I ever would with SG.
They weren't on Emerald. They were on the... west cost server Markov. These guys were in it since the original. I have had this video on a HD for years. Backed up every which way. This video is what made me try MMORPG. I am still subscribed, haven't played for a minute though.

SG is still alive and kicking... There really just hasnt been another game quite like Planetside that is quite ideal for our mindset and style of game play.

When I started playing about 3 or 4 years ago. I remember no matter what empire you played with Gal-drops were a dime a dozen. Then everybody got smart and started taking out anything in the air at all costs. Made it much harder. What I like about the game is the limitless possibilities of tactics you can use. Also how nobody can super-cert for everything. Good fights, good times. I wounder if TRx is still organized. Never was in the outfit, but they could secure almost anything.

I still have an account, I still have this video. I loved it when Gal-Drops came a dime a dozen. Now there once a year. The game is old. Heck it was old when the video was made. However it is a solid game. There were a # of new weapons/vehicles since this video was made. Guess the original players are moving on with their 'real' world lives. Once I get my 1-seat BFR I am going to cancel it I think.
This game was amazing for it's time... They tried something new, and it was great. Loved the different classes and progression for each one. Almost like a mmorpg but all fps style twitch gaming. And ALL pvp.
trying something new i believe is what killed the game, the progression killed what planetside was. it took the fight away from the teams and turned it into a solo killwhore game. back in the day tactical outfits was where it was at, now theres nothing but zerg left. while few try to run tactical it just doesnt work anymore. the game is dieing because of it. if they make a 2 hopefully they dont screw it up like they did this one.
The game is still around, they tried the free trial thing again and its littered with cheaters. They're planning another server merge soon. The game is pretty much on the way to the funeral, they're at the point where they need to promote the game for free, but the die hard players just keep whining about cheaters and forget that without the free players they wouldn't have anyone to shoot at.

Also, to clarify, membership to SG is only $12 annual fee to help pay for the website and TS servers. It has been a great community to be a part of for several years and we are still going strong.
I'm currently with Sturmgrenadier. We do not play in numbers on PS anymore unfortunatly. But I do get on almost every weekend to jackhammer some lashernoobs (of which there are still plenty), but yes, the population is not what it used to be in years past.
SG has been busy playing other various MMORPG's as well as an organized effort alpha testing the new Global Agenda. GA looks very promising and probably the closest in gameplay to PS of any other game I've played.

Sorry to say, but Huxley will not be taking up after PS. The gaming organization I am in from planetside has someone that has worked on the game, and it will not be taking up planetside's mantle.
However, on a good note, the Game Global Agenda seems to hold promise as one to take up the mantle, being an actual MMOFPS like planetside. I cannot say much, as I am attending the game release conf' in georgia next week, but it is based off planetside and Tribes gameplay.
Good times on planetside, i was subscribed 2003 to 2005 and still go back for the odd month. Might go for another one soon but time and money are at a premium at the moment :/

I would have to agree with Lepricon on this, the merged server of Gemini now has a decent sized pop now, and just last weekend forseral was poplocked for most of it, up untill monday. Naturally, if you play during the day on workweeks or late nights, then there will be less players, due to work and shcool. But overall, the game is still alive.
Don't listen to the idiots on here. My outfit fields over 2 squads nightly. Active training program, and we use Phants. Galaxy is obsolete. Look me up under Warpath-E TR empire. Werner merge is coming soon. Outfits are only active as much as the OL's want them to be. In 2003 there were thousands of noobs to put outfits together. PS pop has decline over the years but platoon strength outfits are still possible. I see a more lack of leadership then I see lack of recruits. Trial the game out.
Not practical??? Whats not practical about being able to coordinate quadruple galaxy drops, a dedicated teamspeak server, military like organization, a dedicated air wing and armor section in a first person shooter?

This was done maybe 3 months after release of planetside before all the fluff was added.
We had a blast in this game the game design is sound. Three team combat is fun.

great video! very cool, planetside has and always will be a great game because of the coordination and teamwork it takes to pull of mass assaults on bases and continents. we're waiting for PS2!! LONG LIVE PLANETSIDE!

I still have an account, I still have this video. I loved it when Gal-Drops came a dime a dozen. Now there once a year. The game is old. Heck it was old when the video was made. However it is a solid game. There were a # of new weapons/vehicles since this video was made. Guess the original players are moving on with their 'real' world lives. Once I get my 1-seat BFR I am going to cancel it I think.

This game was amazing for it's time... They tried something new, and it was great. Loved the different classes and progression for each one. Almost like a mmorpg but all fps style twitch gaming. And ALL pvp.
I hope they do a planetside 2.

trying something new i believe is what killed the game, the progression killed what planetside was. it took the fight away from the teams and turned it into a solo killwhore game. back in the day tactical outfits was where it was at, now theres nothing but zerg left. while few try to run tactical it just doesnt work anymore. the game is dieing because of it. if they make a 2 hopefully they dont screw it up like they did this one.

The game is still around, they tried the free trial thing again and its littered with cheaters. They're planning another server merge soon. The game is pretty much on the way to the funeral, they're at the point where they need to promote the game for free, but the die hard players just keep whining about cheaters and forget that without the free players they wouldn't have anyone to shoot at.

I'm currently with Sturmgrenadier. We do not play in numbers on PS anymore unfortunatly. But I do get on almost every weekend to jackhammer some lashernoobs (of which there are still plenty), but yes, the population is not what it used to be in years past.
SG has been busy playing other various MMORPG's as well as an organized effort alpha testing the new Global Agenda. GA looks very promising and probably the closest in gameplay to PS of any other game I've played.

Sorry to say, but Huxley will not be taking up after PS. The gaming organization I am in from planetside has someone that has worked on the game, and it will not be taking up planetside's mantle.
However, on a good note, the Game Global Agenda seems to hold promise as one to take up the mantle, being an actual MMOFPS like planetside. I cannot say much, as I am attending the game release conf' in georgia next week, but it is based off planetside and Tribes gameplay.

A month or a little more ago I bought the game to see how many players that still were playing - werner - 3 players total.
What I saw was very sad - Only 1 US server left with a few ppl and they haven't even transfered my char to that server :(

I would have to agree with Lepricon on this, the merged server of Gemini now has a decent sized pop now, and just last weekend forseral was poplocked for most of it, up untill monday. Naturally, if you play during the day on workweeks or late nights, then there will be less players, due to work and shcool. But overall, the game is still alive.

Don't listen to the idiots on here. My outfit fields over 2 squads nightly. Active training program, and we use Phants. Galaxy is obsolete. Look me up under Warpath-E TR empire. Werner merge is coming soon. Outfits are only active as much as the OL's want them to be. In 2003 there were thousands of noobs to put outfits together. PS pop has decline over the years but platoon strength outfits are still possible. I see a more lack of leadership then I see lack of recruits. Trial the game out.

It was in it's heyday. The game has changed a lot since then, but if you get in with SG or run with any outfit in the game, it still has its moments.

Not practical??? Whats not practical about being able to coordinate quadruple galaxy drops, a dedicated teamspeak server, military like organization, a dedicated air wing and armor section in a first person shooter?
