  • I've got a freind named "jay the fiddler" that can play a mean banjo.

    These guys were good!

    bbqsecrets.ca

  • Nugent storm strooper

  • One Ted Nugent would blow all these old farts off the stage including Steve Martin

  • Steve Martin for whats it worth isnt a slouch pickin the banjo!!

  • Wow...

  • Ive never felt whiter

  • the song starts to sound messy in the middle-don't blame the musicians blame whoever was on the soundboard YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE HAW!

  • Paul is some what over kill with the piano...

  • I dont think paul was very acustomed to playing this type of music. Steve is a very acomplished banjo player. Did I hear dave say "YEE HAW"

  • Cant blame Paul for trying, even if his cadence was a bit off.

  • Listening to bluegrass and riding a jet ski... 2 things you cannot do without smiling.

  • Keyboards thrown in here was absolutely hilarious.

    Paul did well though.

  • Earl Scruggs was to the banjo what Eric Clapton is to the guitar

  • Paul Schaefer is absolutely awesome, just not needed in this song

  • How many people here realize Steve Martin was doing bluegrass long before he thought about acting? He's a musician that happens to act. Its awesome to see so much talent on one stage...and that excludes Paul Shaffer's poor attempt to keep up with the pace of the song

  • @dsoutherngent1

Actually Steve Martin is a magician, who happens to play banjo, who happens to also be an actor. If he never learned magic, he would have never learned how to play the banjo. Life is funny sometimes. Steve Martin is funny all of the time.

  • letterman and shaffer are the no talent in this equation

  • sorry...steve, earl, and paul were the least talented on that stage.....sorry big actor, non musicians!!!

  • Please remember earl Scruggs invented " Claw -Hammer" picking!

  • Poor Paul Shaffer was way outside of his class. But he tried almost to hard to stay up.

  • paul shaffer is an ass.

  • I don´t think the keyboard-player was the weak link:

He was the only one who seemed to be a person with humour.

  • Way cool. I grew up listening to Lester Flat and Earl Scruggs , Steve Martin is a great actor , Now he a great Banjo player. Thank you so much for posting this video.

  • Gotta love some Charles Wood banjo...Go Charles !!!! Yay Brevard lol

  • Steve Martin was a banjo player very early in his career.

  • Keyboards don't fit with this song, but Paul was just fine. Don't get the quality criticism.

  • Now correct me if I'm wrong, but is this style of playing called three finger as opposed to claw hammer or Irish tenor style? BTW for a trip search for Gerry O'connor above. He plays Irish tenor, of course.

  • Paul, don't do mountain music.

  • @txtabby I think Paul was playing along sort of tongue in cheek... what he did was more for fun than a musical statement....

  • looks like four prewar Gibbys and a Stelling? Agreed anybody?

  • Agreed........... the piano player is no better than he seems to think he is !! Guess Dave was obligated as whats-his-face is the band leader !! Pity !!

  • I LOVE mountain music and the banjo. But the piano should have just stayed out of it. WTF?

  • At least 100 of these views have been me. I love this song.

  • I gotta give Steve Martin so much credit. With so many hollywood types spending their free time doing booze and drugs, he has spent his free time cultivating a tremendous talent. He didn't get that good playing only once in a while if he feels like it; that took a lot of time, effort, and dedication.

  • @b26marauderpilot / amen to that! First time I ever saw Steve Martin he had that banjo and an arrow thru his head! Can't really count all his talents....so many....

  • @b26marauderpilot who said banjo players don't do crack...u c how fast their fingers r going?

  • @BlindWhiteBoy Nah, Earl was playin like that 40 years before there WAS crack. I;ve never seen Nugent play one, just saw him flail around on the guitar a lot.

  • @b26marauderpilot He's been that good for a long time, but only in the recent decade has he branched out with albums and collaborations with other musicians.

  • Piano and bluegrass should never mix....or even be in the same room......sorry Paul but you need to sit this one out....

  • Paul Shaffer seems to be all flash and no substance as he gets older...

  • EARL IS KING .....THE REST ARE STARVING FOR FAME

  • Is it me or does anyone else think the keyboard was the weak link here?

  • @mcj05 Skip they keyboard, bring back a fiddle.

  • @mcj05 paul shaffer is a effin joke and tried to get that light on him... sad.

  • @mcj05 Oh god yes. Keyboard does not belong in bluegrass, at all.

  • @mcj05 WHO CARES?!?

  • i wonder if back then, earl ever thought his song would be famous like this. you know, i bet he did. i bet he believed in it that way. i bet when he first put it together he knew he had the grand daddy of them all !!
