Put ur xbox360 in (PSW) mode click power twick whilevit is on then eject then hold elect and power for 29 secs let go of eject hold power till all 4 lights flash 6x then set error code 418 a list of commands will show up check mark reset hardrive clean server test function then hit ok wait 15 mins and ur all good if it still dose not work or your system wont go into psw mode then your system is defective and is beond basic repair have a nice day
@julian909able open your 360 if your warranty is void and take out the disc drive. open the disc drive and clean it out. clean the lazer with a cotton swab and alcohol. thats what i did with mine and i still have it today. i do 360 repairs in my area now for a $40 charge and the customer gets thier system back the next day. i've repaired over 70 systems with differant errors. good luck, if ya need assistance on doing any of this then check out my homepage. i have videos in my fav's.

u know in order to change disc drives youll need to change the circuit board inside of the disc drive if u dont do that that screen that says put the disk in side the xbox 360 will show up as well note: every disc drive has a lock in code that microsoft added in so if you try to simply change drive it wont work
i know you gotta reflash the firmware on the new drive or replacement drive . you can buy a ready drive on the net if ya look around good enough . not that hard to find . or you can check out a vid i have in my fav's that shows how to take it apart and fix it yourself
I just bougt a 360 6 weeks ago and it does this a LOT! I can always get it to play the game, but I have to re-start the system and/or open the drive door multiple times. I am really considering getting my PS3 back and dumping this thing!

basicly what i've went thru. it comes with the 1 yr if anything goes wrong warranty they'll fix it then after that the 3 yr rrod coverage. But there is another online warranty you can get, i found out when we bought our 2nd 360 thru ebay. Its a place called square trade, you dont have to had bought it thru ebay either. They cover everything you buy from brick stores to online stores for like 10-20% of what you paid for it for a warranty price. and they cover everything. Might wanna check'em out.
My brother got the elite a few days ago as well as a two year warranty at Walmart so that should cover it. I told him about your idea but he got a discount at walmart since his friend works there.

I have a PS3 since April and it has yet broken down on me. Sony makes better systems than Microsoft in my opinion. My brother has been through 3 Xbox 360 systems and loves Halo 3 plus XBL and needs another system. I am surprised MS doesn't refund the money that gamers have spent on the systems after they are expired from warranty and brake down. MS should be out of business due to faulty hardware but somehow people still buy these systems.

Was your original drive a hitachi? If so what type is your new drive? If you did the same thing I did you swapped the disc drives but didn't flash the new one or swap the cards. My new drive was the wrong model so now I have to get another new one that is the same model as my old one which is a hitachi.
Yeah i did do the same thing lol. Mine was originally a hitachi, but i swapped it for a samsung without thinking. Was gonna get a new drive but didnt want to spend dough. SO i decided id do a shitload of troubleshoot on my broken disc drive to nail the problem and fixed it my self. Its pretty better than new now! Smooth, quiet, games load alot faster, dvd's skip less etc. I just hope it stays that way! :P

dude set ur startup to disc and start up your 360 by ur controller and it will to from 0 - 5 tries and it will read the disc, i have the same problem but i can usually play game by restarting it over again.

while the drive is reading the dvd, try to drum on your xbox in a fast and constant but not to heavy beat, i have the same problem as you and it helps. Its a typical problem with the samsung and hitachi drives, the laser jams as it reads a dvd, hope it will help at your xbox too....

try dig'n around the modding sites and msg boards to find out some good info on some good sites you can trust . you'll also need the opening tool just to open your 360 any ways . not sure off hand what drive it could use , hopefuly this will help ya . good luck

i sometimes have to open and close my 360 disc drive 25-50 times to get my game to work i dont feel like sending it in to microsoft when i can still play my games
thats what i went thru... after it came to 3-8 hrs to get a disc to read i'd had enough .. it was to the point we'd get up in the morning and try to fire a game up .. it would'nt work so we'd leave it on and go about do'n what ever around the house and when we'd walk thru the room we'd try it again.. rense and repeated all day long.. got realy old FAST! i feel for ya man , hope ya got nerves of steel . because it shredded the hell outa ours ! if your still under your 1 yr warranty send it off.
Piece of crap Microsoft. I think it has something to do with the laser reader lens being dirty. Mine has been doing the same thing for months-it successfuly loads a disc sometimes, and others it does exactly what yours does.

make it rrod , its covered for 3 yrs after purchase ( rrod coverage ) so they'll either fix it or send ya another system in the end. buddy of mine had the same problem months after his 1 yr warranty ran out ( disc drive failure ) , they wanted over $100 to fix it . he made it rrod and got it all fixed for free . hope this helps , good luck!
this same thing had happened to me with my halo 3 disk and i sent it back to microsoft they took fucking 8 weeks to send it back and the problem was that my halo 3 disk was a bit cracked thats why so i suggest you should check yor disk

At least it was still under warranty. I had similar luck back when I first got my PS2. Withing the first 2 weeks I had to send that back with the same problem. I'm cursed when it comes to next gens.
I have had my 360 pro since december of 2006 and today right in the middle of me playing call of duty 4 the disk drive just quit on me so i am going to send it in.
Mine isn't this bad yet. I just bought my 360 in late sept-early oct 07. When I first bought it my game that I had just bought brand new was Gears of war. I played it but when it tried to load something in the game it popped up "disc read error", blah blah blah. I just bought Rockband and it seems that after every 2, 3, 4, maybe 5 songs the stupid "dsic read error" thing pops up when a song has just finished. Is this the 360 tray failing?
yeah its your disc drive . it'll turn into this after awhile .. to the point nothing will read in it disc wise . glad your still under your warranty , it'll be a free fix from M$ . only sucky part is be'n without your system for 3-4 weeks.

I sent mine off for repairs, finally. The UPS clerk at the store said they send off 3 XBOX 360s a day for repairs. And I live in a small town, which makes me realize that if we're sending off that many a day, got only knows how many a city like, say, New York, sends. Oh, and my brand new Wii, which I bought so I can play something while I wait for my 360, fell over and broke the day after I got it, which is today. Boy, my game life sucks ass lately.

Was your original drive a hitachi? If so what type is your new drive? If you did the same thing I did you swapped the disc drives but didn't flash the new one or swap the cards. My new drive was the wrong model so now I have to get another new one that is the same model as my old one which is a hitachi.

Yeah i did do the same thing lol. Mine was originally a hitachi, but i swapped it for a samsung without thinking. Was gonna get a new drive but didnt want to spend dough. SO i decided id do a shitload of troubleshoot on my broken disc drive to nail the problem and fixed it my self. Its pretty better than new now! Smooth, quiet, games load alot faster, dvd's skip less etc. I just hope it stays that way! :P

yeah i agree, one would think they'd have all the bugs ironed out by now. i waited a little over a year before i bought mine in hopes of it being a better console than the launch ones .. i think every one that owns a 360 should jump on the lawsuit bandwagon and get some'n outa this headache they call a gaming console. My brother has gone through 3 systems(Xbox 360) since 2007. He loves Halo 3 which is the only reason why he wont' give up. I have a PS3 which is alright but doesn't have games like Microsoft does. Our third system is doing the white screen of death to us. My brother has to hit the system to get the disc to read. Its a pain in the ass. He bought the system used and should of gotten new. Still we are getting a new system and pray it doesn't shit out. Getting a warrant would help out.

dude set ur startup to disc and start up your 360 by ur controller and it will to from 0 - 5 tries and it will read the disc, i have the same problem but i can usually play game by restarting it over again.

while the drive is reading the dvd, try to drum on your xbox in a fast and constant but not to heavy beat, i have the same problem as you and it helps. Its a typical problem with the samsung and hitachi drives, the laser jams as it reads a dvd, hope it will help at your xbox too....

try dig'n around the modding sites and msg boards to find out some good info on some good sites you can trust . you'll also need the opening tool just to open your 360 any ways . not sure off hand what drive it could use , hopefuly this will help ya . good luck

thats what i went thru... after it came to 3-8 hrs to get a disc to read i'd had enough .. it was to the point we'd get up in the morning and try to fire a game up .. it would'nt work so we'd leave it on and go about do'n what ever around the house and when we'd walk thru the room we'd try it again.. rense and repeated all day long.. got realy old FAST! i feel for ya man , hope ya got nerves of steel . because it shredded the hell outa ours ! if your still under your 1 yr warranty send it off.

Piece of crap Microsoft. I think it has something to do with the laser reader lens being dirty. Mine has been doing the same thing for months-it successfuly loads a disc sometimes, and others it does exactly what yours does.

make it rrod , its covered for 3 yrs after purchase ( rrod coverage ) so they'll either fix it or send ya another system in the end. buddy of mine had the same problem months after his 1 yr warranty ran out ( disc drive failure ) , they wanted over $100 to fix it . he made it rrod and got it all fixed for free . hope this helps , good luck!

Mine isn't this bad yet. I just bought my 360 in late sept-early oct 07. When I first bought it my game that I had just bought brand new was Gears of war. I played it but when it tried to load something in the game it popped up "disc read error", blah blah blah. I just bought Rockband and it seems that after every 2, 3, 4, maybe 5 songs the stupid "dsic read error" thing pops up when a song has just finished. Is this the 360 tray failing?

I sent mine off for repairs, finally. The UPS clerk at the store said they send off 3 XBOX 360s a day for repairs. And I live in a small town, which makes me realize that if we're sending off that many a day, got only knows how many a city like, say, New York, sends. Oh, and my brand new Wii, which I bought so I can play something while I wait for my 360, fell over and broke the day after I got it, which is today. Boy, my game life sucks ass lately.
