Slayer sounds like a garage band writing the songs as they record them. Their guitar solos are fucking horrible. Tom Araya can't sing for shit, and sometimes he has a kind of "rap" delivery, which is retarded. Dave Lombardo has a ton of technical skill, believe me, but sometimes he doesn't know when to lay off the fills. Also, Slayer is way too fast at times.....some of their songs would sound better a little slower. And fuck anyone who disagrees with me.

Slayer has had far better drummers, though. Metallica wins riff and songwriting as well. So, What's the argument for slayer being better, again?

@kidpein Hanneman/king have had 30 years to 'kill' hetfield/hammett at guitar....if they haven't done it by now, what makes you think they will all the sudden? Hammett's solos provide more elements of music than the literally out of key, borderline random note hitting solos slayer provides.

Kirk hammet's solo are nearly as random with overuse of whammy bar and wah to hide it and metallica has probably the dumbest lyrics ever and haven't been able to release a decent album since like 20 years at least if you don't like slayer listen to megadeth instead of metallica, they have way better solos and lyrics

Also, when one says that metallica has bad lyrics in defense of slayer of all acts, one looses any credibility they thought they might have had, megadeth too, for that matter. Megadeth does have better musicians, however.

@jostopholees about the lyrics I would say I never mentionned slayer's lyrics, and Dave Mustaine is a way better songwritter than hetfield/Ulrich. about kirk guitar skills, you can stay in key and still play random notes, slayer's solos are random and they never wanted to make structured solos and in my opinion it's just fine because it fits with the violence of their songs

Random notes imlies just that...random notes. No structure to them, out of key, wildly changing scale. That simply doesn't fit kirk at all. In fact, if anything he gets criticized for playing on one scale too much.

Metallica, for the simple fact that besides the drummers of both respective bands kirk and james acutally now how to play their instruments. The only thing that any one could argue that slayer has on metallica when it comes to guitar playing is rhythm playing, but as for making a song with a great riff and great solo its all metallica. Ive never heard good lead work from slayer except for hannemans solo in seasons of the abyss.
