  • interesting times those.......

  • Try that shit today and the air force will blow you outta the sky, and a good thing too. So where are these protesters now that Libyan rebels are torturing all the black Gaddafi troops they capture? Arab racism towards blacks has gone all the way to genocide in Sudan, but these panzy NZ twats have nothing to say now, hey? Fuck 'em.

  • @bcfsl So what the fuck is your country doing that we aren't? u jelly?

  • @bcfsl NZ got no air force to shoot a plane down, and we dont need any. coz no one hates us like you yanks.

  • @bcfsl

    What airforce?

  • wow i can't believe some people are against the protests! it would have been easy to just be ignorant toward the whole thing back then but watching it now those protesters made a huge difference against the apartheid in south africa and they should be celebrated!!

  • good job guys ... south africa turned out really well now that the niggers took over. but what do you expect from a race where people think that raping infants cures aids?

(seriously, google south africa child rape epidemic)

  • @aseglkj That's very offensive.

  • @aseglkj seriously, how thick are you? South Africa is but a baby in terms of democracy. They are free now to choose their own destiny, that is what it is about. 100 years ago they were chopping off heads in the motherland...check out Sth Africa in another 100 years and get back to me about democracy. You're so uneducated, you probably think I meant the previous sentence literally. The dreadful situation in South Africa is a result of years of apartheid and oppression you fool.

  • Where's the rest of the tries and kicks? This was a game of tremendous quality rugby by both sides, if you ignore the distractions. It had everything, a dominant AB forward pack (Gary Knight at his peak scoring his 4th try in 4 weeks [a prop!!]), great comeback by SA to nearly snatch it, Ray Mordt's hattrick and Stu Wilson's great try, excellent goal kicking and.....the right result! What more could you ask for?

  • wow.... a plane cicling above the field throwing flour bombs and leaflets, flares tossed onto the field.... and the game continues.... lol :)

  • Like, half my family was protesting and my Uncle made the front page of the newspaper for protesting.

All the comments saying they needed to shoot down the plane and stuff kind of offended me.

Yeah, I know NZ did go the wrong way about stopping the Springbok tour in lots of ways, but if they hadn't made a fuss, then what would have happened to South Africa?

  • well- 30 yrs later i can finally say that I guessthere was more to life than a game of rugby and that i';m happy that Biko - who was driven naked for hours in the back of a police truck before being murdered was remembered so far away.

  • @SD78

The protests against this tour are commonly regarded as having a large impact on the breaking down of the Aparteid regime in South Africa, so I suggest you get you facts straight before making ridiculous generalisations and stop being such a bigot.

  • @MrSampascoe

    LOL...bullshit.

It's not like the massive sanctions and international condemnation had anything to do with it?

  • @SD78

Agree, what a ridiculous notion. This tour just pissed off the white South African. Including that silly penalty in the final test. There was only one thing that ended Apartheid. The fall of the Berlin Wall 19 Aug 89 and the decline of Communist Russia. The USA and UK did not have to support the Apartheid Government anymore to protect their interest in Southern Africa. Remember SA was the only pro-West African country left. 6 months later the ANC was unbanned & Mandela was free 2 Feb 90

  • @SD78

I come from a working class family, all of whom protested against the Tour, because of their belief in fairness and equality. Saying that they were only there to jump on the bandwagon or "latch on to the latest trendy clause" not only displays vast ignorance but is also insulting to those who protested or had family who were speaking out .

  • Either way, my previous comment doesn't mean I don't support the cause. I just think as a pilot, this situation is a bit extreme and dropping flour bombs on target in a cessna is way harder than one would think. Could have easily hit someone in the crowd and in the right place, broken a neck or blinded someone, started a fire(if he was dropping the smoke/flares), crashed... I only say crashed because he was that low and at the same time, messing around with papers and flour bags in the cockpit.

  • The major clash came on september 12 at the Eden Park, a plane threw some flour bags. Fortunately, nobody was seriously injured, play could resume, but the Springboks wouldn't be allowed to tour untill Nelson Mandela was freed and Apartheid consigned to history.

  • and those "hippies" were there trying to stop/distract the Rugby game !! i mean i love rugby and all but Human Right's come first if i was there i would be like there with 100% lol

  • Stupid Ignorant people !! Do you guy's actually know what they were protesting about ?? I'm 16 and I know why !! it was because back than the South African government/people were against black people / colored people playing rugby !! and If it weren't for those "hippies" rugby wouldn't be what it is now. There won't be any great colored legend's and rugby will be a complete fail !! I know because my English teacher was there !! and some teacher's from Britan and SF too !! they told everything

  • The air force should have shot the cunt out of the sky. How dare he interfere with a rugby match.

  • but that would result in a uncontrolled situation of aircraft debris falling out of the sky. The proper thing to do in these situations is to take a helicopter (blackhawk, UH-1, anything military will work) and fly directly over and in front of the aircraft causing turbulence and loss of lift from the helicopter's downwash and in severe cases as they do with some drug runners, settle on top of the aircraft and force it to the ground. Today, situations like this would result in intercept.

  • @johnnytanini do you even know what they were protesting about? They were focusing on the apartheid in South Africa at that time... look at the South African team... do you see a black man playing on the field with them?

  • @johnnytanini If you had actually listened to the video, you would have heard that the pilot was not being violent. The point of these protest actions was to bring awareness to apartheid in South Africa, not anti-rugby. If you agree with apartheid, then by all means, continue thinking your bigoted opinion.

  • At least they were making a stand against human rights abuses in Africa. I love rugby but I would have been out there protesting along with every one else who thought racism was wrong and blindly going along to play sports with a country that persecuted black men and women was turning a blind eye to injustice.

  • If I caught a hippy throwing a smoke bomb at a game.... that hippy would be eating his tofu through a straw for a week.

  • What people don't seem to realise is that the protestors were a tiny minority and largely confined to hippies, spoilt middleclass uni students( latching onto the latest trendy cause) and Mongrel Mob members who used the riots as an excuse to attack the police.

  • Bullshit. That's like saying most pro tour fanatics were just retarded hillbillies and bogans, who couldn't understand much beyond rugby. Oh no wait it's not because that's actually accurate...

  • No, what I stated is correct, no matter how hard PC revisionists try to claim otherwise..

The police were largely at Eden Park to prevent the 'protesters' from getting a good kicking.

  • My goodness, your evidence, so convincing...

"PC revisionists" - how very refreshing.

Oh that's nice but I didn't know it was a point of dispute?

  • The majority of New Zealanders at the time either supported the Springbok tests or were ambivilent.

Basically every person at the ground wanted to see the protestors get smacked over with is why the police were protecting said protestors.

  • Nice to see the way they used the boots back in the day!

  • bloody stupid hippies

  • Don't be ignorant. The people were protesting against Apartheid.

  • God damn Hooligans. They need to keep that in Soccer
