i love Radeons box's there great. I bought all the parts for my computer and i kinda have them decorating my Computer desk with my 6870's box right in the middle and it looks great!

6970 is only faster when it comes to tesellation and certain games. But in terms of specs and RAW power (not game wise etc.), the 5870 beats it. But its still a wonder why shops still sell it for that much, though you can get em cheap online used.
@Y0URm0mmasballs You can look up written reviews they all indicate that the 6970 is superior. Twice the frame buffer and has better cross fire scaling performance. and there is still room for improvement for the 6900 series with later revisions of drivers. the cayman series is just a beast of a gpu
if your in the uk and you want this card dont get it from pc world they rip you off get it from maplins.the pc world price is £325 but at maplins its only £200 and it comes with dirt 2 :)

@Sniper1Hunter I would wait to upgrade. The 6990 is very loud and gets very hot and not to mention very expensive. In about 12 months the next round of single gpu graphics cards from ati and nvidia will be out and a lot cheaper than the 6990 and most likely just as fast. The 5870s and are pretty cheap right now but the problem is that they dont perform very well with dx11 features such as tesselation.
I would wait for a bigger leap. That way you get a longer lifetime out of your hardware

@Sniper1Hunter It depends on the resolution of the panels. There are some 22" 1680x1050 panels and 23"/24" 1920x1080 panels. What I would do is buy your panels first and then try it out with one 5870. It will depend on what games you play. To give you and idea:
I run 2 gtx 580's on @ 2560x1600 get 85 fps (maxed out wih 32x AA) in bfbc2. 2560x1600 = 4.1 mpxel. 3X1920x1080 = 6.2 mpxel. So given that i get about 85 fps and hd 5870 is slower, I would say you need a second 5870, at least for bfbc2.

@Sniper1Hunter Well theyre all pretty much gonna be the same. I havent really seen many out there with custom coolers. Asus has one but it is at $500, which is a lot for a 6970. I would just buy a reference card so that way you keep your replacement cost low. And besdies there reference cards are quite good as is. The fan I have heard runs a little louder than gtx 580 but it doesnt get loud enough to be annoying. Just make sure your case has good cooling. Power draw: 6970>5870

If you are going to run stuff like nfs shift or half life 2, it doesnt matter. But in more current games where there is a lot more memory usage (bfbc2, metro 2033), the 5870 tends to get choked by its lack of ram. And since you are going to run 3 displays (6.2 mpxel!) , your are most likely going to have low min fps. All boils down to the game though

I am having a 6 display setup. The lower 3 are oriented normally, the upper 3 are upside-down. When grouping them up for Eyefinity, I am unable to rotate just the top 3 to get the whole picture oriented in the same way. Is there a solution? (I even tried to mess with displays firmware, no success so far) Thank You!

@kiddoe25 Yes it should be as long as you have a pci-e 2.0 slot, enough room in your case and a power supply with 600+ watts and the right connectors (6pin+8pin) However the 5870 is not the fastest card on the market now, if you wanted to stick with amd the fastest card is now the 6970, the replacement for the 5870. Or u can fork out $500 for the fastest currents card nivdias gtx 580. If I where u I would get a nvidia 560 gtx-ti or a amd 6870 both are about $250 and comparable to the 5870 :)
@Madkillr05 You mean 5770's better and cheaper than 5870? Umm you're right 5770 is just same thing than 5870. 5770 stays stabile even when you've overclocked it to 1,4Ghz.
@Maketsup The 5770 uses 128 bit memory, whereas the 5870 uses 256, so even at the same clockspeeds you're going to see better performance out of the 5870, other hardware specs notwithstanding.

@captaincough Nvidia has had the fastest single-GPU card for a looong time now. First with GTX 480 and now with GTX 580. 5970 is a decent card, yes, but the fact that it's a dual GPU card pulls it down. It's less stable and many games don't even support 2 GPUs.

How can you say that your running in high detail while your AA is off and you are using trilinear for AF. put it on 8x AA and 16x AF then show me the FPS. if its still the same performance then I'm impressed.

@SephXIII88 Naw, Crysis requires pure power, so it's like a hummer on computer resources. LFD source engine is super efficient and has really high graphics output. I run L4D on my 9600GT core 2 duo laptop with everything maxed out at 32fps average. Crisis on the other hand, sucks up resources like beer and the graphics comes out worse than L4D on my computer. Sure Crysis looks great maxed out but it's crytek engine is very inefficient at utilizing hardware.

@Michael199161 not only that but Bigger screens are bad for gaming they are pixelated even if they are 1080p smaller screens have same amount of pixels but on a smaller screen so you will get better quality and sharper imaging plus you can bend 3screens so say your in flight school and you need to clock X amount of hours you can build a sweet rig or your into simulators you can do this

I dont get it. Why would get 3 expensive monitors and play your game with those "brackets" that they create? You can just buy a much more cheaper projector.

@captaincough Not to be a bitch, but doesn't Nvidia have better tesselation technology, more mature drivers, and better overclocking? Not to mention better warranty for ones money, like having the extra technology's such as PhsyX and CUDA. Correct if anything is wrong there. I'm actually just double checking on my claims.

@captaincough Nvidia has had the fastest single-GPU card for a looong time now. First with GTX 480 and now with GTX 580. 5970 is a decent card, yes, but the fact that it's a dual GPU card pulls it down. It's less stable and many games don't even support 2 GPUs.

How can you say that your running in high detail while your AA is off and you are using trilinear for AF. put it on 8x AA and 16x AF then show me the FPS. if its still the same performance then I'm impressed.

@SephXIII88 Naw, Crysis requires pure power, so it's like a hummer on computer resources. LFD source engine is super efficient and has really high graphics output. I run L4D on my 9600GT core 2 duo laptop with everything maxed out at 32fps average. Crisis on the other hand, sucks up resources like beer and the graphics comes out worse than L4D on my computer. Sure Crysis looks great maxed out but it's crytek engine is very inefficient at utilizing hardware.

@Michael199161 not only that but Bigger screens are bad for gaming they are pixelated even if they are 1080p smaller screens have same amount of pixels but on a smaller screen so you will get better quality and sharper imaging plus you can bend 3screens so say your in flight school and you need to clock X amount of hours you can build a sweet rig or your into simulators you can do this
