  • This goes much deeper than Southern African American-- read up!!! Ms. Dunham was a Vodun high priestess. The subtle, rhythmic dance is a part of the indigenous African and Afro-Columbian culture. "Cumbia" is a dance of courtship practiced among African slaves where women hold a candle and raise their skirts. "Cumbe" is African Guinean music. The aromatic smoke pleases the gods. Take a closer look.
