  • My favourite song of theirs, this. Can't believe it's been so long since Mellon Collie was released...

  • All these years later this song still gives me goosebumps!

  • remember it was a 2 disc set like one was a moon and one was the sun right? and each disc had a certain tone to the collection of songs on it, i remember i loved both of them tho,

  • Remember when it was a two tape set, matthias2986

  • troppo bella brividi ,,,,,,

  • i guess you had to be there

  • Best SP song ever !

  • Corgan is probably with out a doubt one of the greatest songwriters ever. Pure, rich, dimentional, and really makes you think. That is what music is,it should make you feel a certain way, think about things different. For me this is the best album. Listen to the creativeness of the instruments, the vocals, the arrangement. This is very hard to duplicate.

  • siamese dream is better

  • @tsangpogorge beg to differ, but to each his own. SP sounds a lot more together on this album, even though siamese dream was great, they bring a new tightness as well as new diversity. it's great. i think this is where corgan really came into his own.

  • @tsangpogorge beatles is better, i win.

  • love it!

  • This song is sooo good it's sickening...wow..... I forgot how much i really liked this song and how good it was.

  • The 6 people that dont like this are propbably into Lady GaGa. Which equals to bad taste.

  • Dude this album would have been legendary if the lyrics were any better. Honestly the songwriting is great but the lyrics are just teenaged angst... come on now Billy... Lets say this album had the lyricism of Adore... then..... well who knows

  • @BrianCulticeMusic different albums, different times, different Billy's. Well, same Billy, but two different view points in life. This album IS legendary.

  • @BrianCulticeMusic it's still legendary man! lyrics are ok in my book

  • My favorite Smashing Pumpkins song ever.

  • @hawrnball I would be able to agree with you only if Mayonaise was never written.

  • @asm0de hear hear, well said that man!

  • This song is all i ever wanted to be

This song is what i failed to become

This song is what i can be

  • what an awesome song and album for that matter

  • what a an awesome song and album for that matter

  • im glad i got to see them live on this tour when i was younger

  • Gush I love to listen to this when going to bed, with my ear phones!! a long long time ago :)) Makes my heart blead!!

  • Gush I love to listen to this when going to bed, with my ear phones!! a long long time ago :))

  • @Elizabethbaer I used to do the same exact thing all the time.

  • First time I listened to this song I turned my stereo up really loud because of the quiet intro.... big mistake :D

  • @SadPeterPan1977 haha, thanks! I turned my stereo down a little bit after reading your comment. Just in time, I guess :D

  • To me this album is a kind of endless summer as I was at the peek of careless living enjoying whatever came along my way

  • personally, siamese dream is still my favorite of theirs, but, to their credit... they reinvented themselves with each album.

  • You'll never win against this girl. Maybe when I first posted I gave a shit, but I don't now. Riling idiots on the internet is a casual sport. Good luck!

  • This album was one of the most important things to happen to me during my freshman year of college. ;-)

  • If we're talking Plato, he first suggested Atlantis. Maybe it's Billy's ode to a lost lover on a lost continent. Either way, deciphering the lyrics gets us nowhere. Billy was going through lots of therapy and the lyrics seem more Freaudian at times. Either way, it's a beautiful song, no matter what it means. And what it means to you personally is the point.

  • I will never forget the magic I found in this music. Beautiful, tragic.......sweet, aggressive. Billy put words to my teenage emotions I could not understand otherwise.

  • I was on watch on a sailing trip in the Atlantic a few weeks back at 3 in the morning. We were about 30-40 miles off the coast there were no other vessels for miles and miles around us. I had no problems staying awake because I had this song playing on repeat for the whole 2-hour watch.

  • 'mellon chollie and the infinite sadness' is the 'sergeant pepper's lonely heart's club/ of the 90's. a rare milestone indeed.

  • @danimal97520 Actually, I used the entire track, which, for the first ten to fifteen seconds, appears to be silence.

  • @Watch4 hahaha fuckin ownd danimal

  • @Watch4 Geez, people complain just for the sake of complaining. I would rather just thank you for posting this. Haven't heard in over 10yrs and forgot how good a song this is..

  • @Watch4 That guy got TOLD!

  • @danimal97520. it's not silence. it's a slow fade-in. fans of this song would, of course, already know that.

  • @danimal97520 10-15 seconds of silence... where do you even hear that? The music starts instantly, in case you need a hearing aid or something.

  • @danimal97520 fuck right off, little man....

  • @danimal97520 YOu need to crank it!

  • @danimal97520 LOL you got Owned fool

  • @danimal97520 If you listen with headphones it's clear the track begins when the video begins.

  • Comment removed

  • @danimal97520 You really are a shithead.

  • @danimal97520

    Turn up your volume.

  • @danimal97520 why so serious? :)

  • @danimal97520 fail!

  • This album was a complete art project, including the musical production, the visuals, lyrics and that very distinctive sound the pumpkins established.

  • Do you know that in italian Porcelina is a synonymous of something like "little female pig" and is also used as"slut" synonymous for a woman? :-)

  • @Mal3f1cus um hence the cd sleeve cover- visually explanatory

    l

  • Pensar que vienen a Argentina y no los voy a ver. Bdah, a el.

But we always have the music

  • the best Pumpkin riff ever

  • epic

  • i grew up with the smashing pumpkins <3

  • You know it's about the music when it's this great.

  • The chorus part with the heavy, electric, distorted sound is effing beautiful!!!!!!!

  • This song makes me feel so many different emotions all at once its fucking awesome.. Only the Pumpkins can do that. BTW, Billy Corgan still got it seen him on Labor Day and it was like a dream come true :D He plays his guitar effortlessly and beautifullyy <3

  • Ever since I heard about Jimmy's split, I just stopped listening to them And Just recently picked them up again. It wasn't until a little later that I found out that Iha and Da'arcy left. I think that I will stick with the old stuff and the memories with it.

I LOVE ALL YOU GUYS WHO LISTEN TO THEM AND I WILL NEVER STOP, I CAN'T.

MUCH LOVE BILLY, IHA, DA'ARCY, AND JIMMY

  • The intro at 1:39 is so badass

  • this is unreal. reminds me of high school years. there was nothing but hopes and wonder.

  • "all the malenky little hairs on my plott standing endwise and the shivers crawling up like slow malenky lizards and then down again" quote from Clockwork orange that explains how I feel about this song. Great stuff :)))

  • One of the greatest rock bands and greatest double rock albums....they don't make bands like this these days....bring back the 90's :)

  • whenever i listen to this intro i always picture a lone ship out on the ocean splashing over waves

  • I bought this album the first week it hit the shelves and promptly played the shit out of it for 6 or 7 years. Always liked Porcelina a lot but was never close to my favorite. What can I say after all this time I think its now the best. Now that's a sign of a fuckin classic rock album that holds the test of time.

  • How can 3 people dislike this?

  • I even miss the album covers of the most talented generation to ever make music,Generation X. What happened my friends, what happened?

  • rockin

  • i remember i was the first in line at The Wiz to buy this album.

  • Best song ever.

  • While I agree Siamese dream is a great album and is my second favorite next to this album. This was album was the album of the year for that year it really filled the void that Cobain left as well remember Billy said Kurt was only his true competition for writing. Billy said that all the band members relationships were really close when they made this.

This Album took me into a direction that I wanted music to go and is sorely missed in today's music I will always cherish this masterpiece!!

  • @megamo08 True that about Cobain and all.

  • @megamo08 Ugh - Cobain was nothing compared with the Pumpkins, who actually created internally.

  • @MrGrevy Actually he was Billy said he was his competition when Nirvana released Never mind Billy said it blew him and everyone else away and Billy had released Gish at that same time thinking he had a great record which of course he did but then fell into a deep depression since Never mind was dominating the music charts . In other words the Pumpkins success was more gradual but to say Cobain was nothing is just foolish.

  • @megamo08

So agree about Siamese Dream; love that album to this day..Must have bought it multiple times... & today's music too, is sadly missing many, many things.....

  • @megamo08

this song has many meanings imho for me not least the journey of life, coming of age and discovery.. am agnostic but this song has almost a spiritualness to it , i was bout 14 and reading plato's Republic and critiqueing the world and "morals" porcelina reminds me of a dream journey to wisdom and truth ,,, porcelina lyrics have a conciousness awareness that billy strives for forever seeking and a benevolent undertone in the belief if goodness and a soul perhaps ... :) lol

  • @megamo08 Dude, we all know Gish topped both of those albums

  • @YYYxEEE Gish was good. But it was no masterpiece. This album was one of the decade's greats.

  • @lxvlx Well, in my opinion it was a masterpiece, because that album really spoke to me on many different levels.

  • @YYYxEEE Ah, that makes more sense. Indeed it was a masterpiece then! ..

and don't get me wrong.. I love that album.

  • @megamo08 as amazing an era it was for great music all is not lost, infact far from it bands such as TOOL and Deftones more than fill the void with mindblowing music......

  • @megamo08 lol where to start? I rank both Cantrell/Staley and Vedder/PJ far beyond Cobain if you look at what is known as "the grunge era". When it comes to Corgan its really hard to compare to others, specially this album that is really one of a kind. One thing about the pumpkins though, they were a band that you left behind when u grew older. I think this suits 14-16year olds perfect. I still think its a great album but most of all its a reminder of youth. But Im sure many will disagree.

  • @omarqure Left Behind when you grew Older ? Not a chance there music is timeless and although I do agree it reminds me of Youth and also reminds me of a time when there were real artists who played there instruments and made music from there heart and soul!! Cobain's time although short changed music forever he put the Grunge era on the Map.. Even though he never liked the term Grunge no one did more for the early 90's than he did without him many of those bands never even get a chance.

  • I forgot how epic this song was.

  • An orgasm at 6:39. Everytime.

    That riff is fuckin awesome.

  • @Mal3f1cus actually an ograsm at 6:58

  • @wheredoyougetoff1 why not, it's an everlasting orgasm.

  • I like how this starts it starts mellow then kicks you in the face!

  • yup!!!

  • Siamese dream is more of their masterpiece imo. This album has a lot of great songs but not every song on here is flawless. Seems to me like the pumpkins had a lot more expected with the realease of this album, but SD had 13 flawless songs that has a helluva better impact.

  • "Smashing Pumpkins" were awesome. "The Smashing Pumpkins" were not. They had some ok songs on this album but it's bloated.

  • @Loctorpse For the record, there aren't two names. The name is The Smashing Pumpkins, people just got confused because in order to fit the art of Gish Billy had to omit the "The". Also, this is one of their best if not THE best album of theirs you troll.

  • @Loctorpse I disagree. This is their Magnum opus, a masterpiece.

  • This is one of the best songs on this double album in my opinion :)

  • this album is so mystical! they are not human...

  • This album was amazing...one of my top ten all time and thats crazy cause its a double album, so much can go wrong. Even the album art went perfect with most of the songs. I'm a pretty masculine black dude if I do say so myself but, I have cried to a few of these songs. I was like what is this clear salty substance coming from my eyes... amazing... oh poor poor celina.

  • just by seeing the name of the song, you can tell it'll be one of the most beautiful things ever

  • damnnnnn i remember when i bought this on tape back in the day

  • Epic song

  • @crassisdead - you idiot. :)

  • Please its insulting for me, a Pumpkins fan, and for the Pumpkins themselves, to be compared to shitty music like Meshuggah, Mudvayne and music that sounds NOTHING like Pumpkins - Bjork and ugh can hardly even type her name.. Tori Amos.

  • @irreveRANTs Go fuck yourself. I love The Smashing Pumpkins but Meshuggah is fucking amazing. I agree, they shouldn't have been mentioned on this video, but don't be such a closed-minded prick.

  • @crassisdead its not my fault Meshuggah is crap! *hands up*

  • @irreveRANTs Try to play ANY of their songs on guitar or drums, you ignorant cunt sucker.

  • @crassisdead Haha why the hell would I want to noise pollute my life?

Love youtube for mindlessly riling up people :)

  • @irreveRANTs You're just making excuses because you know you can't play any of their songs. I love calling people out on their shit and making them look like complete assholes on Youtube:)

  • @crassisdead

    iknowright

even 1979 has a linear drumbeat for parts of the song, instead of just quarternote hh.

  • that intro killz me every time!!!!

  • This is one of the hardest, most rocking tracks in the history of rock music, ever. The depths of appreciation you can go into with this track are "vast".

  • It's amazing how 9 minutes manages to fly by every time I listen to this song. It's literally a flawless composition (with dynamics that would make the Pixies blush).

  • awesome song!!!! PCPA!!!!

  • billy sing with the soul´s voice

  • who likes this song AND Kingdom Hearts? Well if you like em both, check out my channel! I just made the FIRST EVER KINGDOM HEARTS AMV FOR THIS SONG!!!!! • When it comes to lyrics, I'd always gravitated to the songs that are more straightforward and emotional in their meaning (e.g. "Disarm," "Mayonaise," "Soma") but "Porcelina" and "Thru the Eyes of Ruby" have made me realize that Billy Corgan is also incredible when he's being more esoteric and vague.

  • epic

  • @thedamnedapostle I agree wholeheartedly.

  • love the smashing pumpkins so much.

But does this intro not have a striking resemblance to this suede's she's not dead?

I didn't realise until I had them on the same mp3 mix.

  • This song just took me back. I freaking love this band! There is so much truth and purity in their music. They jam the f@ck out!

  • Awww I used to fall asleep to this song as a teenager. It was so comforting during those years

  • its been a while

  • Not easy to compare with other oldies, impossible to compare with some new. New are good, but this is exelent, I miss it so much. I feel old and terribly happy when I listen.

  • The people who complain about this are the people that know fuck all about music!!!

  • all the hostility here... its kinda cute

  • To all the people posting hate spam at me, dont be jealous cause im better than you and probably know more about SP or own more SP music than you all. I mean over 8 gigs, 20+ albums including bootlegs.... Well bitches and ho's need something to bitch about and i got thick skin so you all can suck my ass.

  • @catgravy420 That, people, is the attitude of all rock bands since the 2000, midless, "I'm badass" bullshit. Just the same as those shit ass bands you listed. I hope someone rams his dick up your ass, breaks you down to the little crap you are. Flag his comment as spam, and all subsequent as well, and move on.

    By the way, amazing song.

  • @DeathDjango Can I fucking have sex with you? I love you good sir. I love you. You have literally taken the words from my mouth or fingers or whatever you want to call typing...

  • @Watch4 unless you're a girl, you must be gay

  • @DeathBat12051992 u jelis

  • @DeathDjango Midless????

  • @DeathDjango Not Poets Of The Fall they make art and say forget being bad ass. Marko Saaresto the lead singer of Poets Of The Fall said "If we want to make a happy song we will, if we want to make a sad song we will, and if we want to make a grunge song we will. You have to make art and not worry about what the big labels want because I sing my song for you, not for the big labels." Poets Of The Fall are a Rock Band from Finland but they sing in English too give them a try. : - )

  • @nicholsjoshua15 LOL Finland...no thanks.

  • No No they have no accent at all in fact I thought they were Southern or English. I will give it to you there are some Finish bands that sound like well...crap, but not these guys. Give them a try man it's not like I'm asking you to have sex with a goat or something. My cousin started me on them. He came back from Afghanistan and when he was in Afghanistan he could get the London Radio thats where he heard Poets Of The Fall at and now I love them thanks to my cousin.

  • @catgravy420 @everyone else, hey ya, leave the guy alone already, i just got an idea, im gonna make orchestral versions of the whole infinite album, corgan's song are very orchestral, i mean once u see the underlining musicality of this, it will just blow u away! and if u still dont, well the orchestral mob will hunt u down with musical tuning pitch forks!

  • @catgravy420 Hahahahahaha, really you own more than ANYONE? Well I own their entire discography. And I stress ENTIRE. So go choke on cock and die.

  • they make me feel drunk

  • @sausage4231 Doesn't it just make you wannna ride da hippy train

  • @catgravy420 Eheh..hehe..haha..hahaHAHAAHAHAHAAHAAHA!! HAHAHAHAHAH!!!!! Y-You fucking fail just...get the fuck out! HAHA!

  • @catgravy420

*THROWS UP* ewwww half those bands SUCK!!!!

  • @catgravy420 Wolfmother?! Mudvayne?! YSKUBOTOTD?! Haha, you can't compare 'em to the Pumpkins. No way, man. Pumpkins don't exist anymore btw, not since 1999. It should be called "THE BILLY CORGAN SOLO MAN 5000 PROJECT" since it's pretty much only him and 62 randoms of the streets.

  • @catgravy420 hi, how r u ..just wanted to inform you that you are FUCKING DICKHEAD. kindly go away , and smell your dads nutsack. u blow.

  • @catgravy420 Fail, exept wolfmother their alright

  • @catgravy420

lol dude you're a fucking joke, though bjork and tori amos are cool..but none the less you can fuck right off!!

  • The best album ever!!! Full of that Smashing Pumpkins sound I don't hear anymore...

  • @Xripulipaska

Hopefully they will reconcile and create more masterpieces.

  • fantastico!!!che dire rock progressive da altri tempi.

  • i love this album so much, im digging it out of the collection and listening to the whole thing right now, havnt properly listened to it in easy over 10 years. i forgot how amazing it is. one of the greatest albums of all time.

    I miss the old time!

  • @daedemona3

    Me too!

  • that guitar wow. wow wow wowowowowowowowow I love these guyssss <3 forever.

  • thanks billie.........

  • Incredibly good.

  • I love the smashing pumpkins, notice during the 90s smashing pumpkins was never about image what type of of clothes they wear NO it was never about that!! it was all bout the music, lyrics, the 4 intelligents of each band member...
