The police did absolutely nothing to stop the actual gang of criminal who destroyed a section of downtown. They let them run free for 1.5hours without so much as squeaking at them. The videos of the small number of criminals thrashing downtown without being stopped by police are all over youtube. If you know the geography of downtown, you know that these areas were not close to the real free speech zone.

At an operation as large as the G20, in a city as large as Toronto with a large number of different police forces in play and the fact that they had to maneuver in a very specific and unfortunately slow manner, it's no wonder they didn't get to those specific places in time to stop a car from burning.
The price tag is strange, and I have yet to see any sort of breakdown to justify it, but I do not see any reason to be bitching about response time.
Watch the videos you will see officers walked away from these cop cars and just left them in the open, CTV reported that "It seems they are leaving these cop cars on purpose" even before they were smashed. CTV was even trying to justify it by saying the plan must be to let them smash these cars and hope the protesters just get tired and go home. Were you watching any of the live events that went on? Especially in that specific hour?

The police did absolutely nothing to stop the actual gang of criminal who destroyed a section of downtown. They let them run free for 1.5hours without so much as squeaking at them. The videos of the small number of criminals thrashing downtown without being stopped by police are all over youtube. If you know the geography of downtown, you know that these areas were not close to the real free speech zone.

The National Post called Naomi Klein a neo-communist, in a recent article. I guess, according to the logic of some simple minded people, if you criticize the short-comings of capitalism, then you MUST be a communist.
With that said, I absolutely disagree with the pointless violence and vandalism that occured at the G20 protest marches in Toronto. Smashing store's front windows and torching police cars solves nothing. People that do that, are also very simple minded.

The Americans co-opt her, like they co-opt the majority of Canadians who have made it big in the States. The fact is, she grew up in Montreal, now lives in Toronto, & is married to a Toronto journalist, Avi Lewis, who is the son of Stephen Lewis, and grandson of David Lewis, both big names in Canadian politics. She's a proud Canadian.

@fortnightshowcase - I haven't read anywhere that Naomi Klein is an American citizen. She was born & grew up in Canada. She now lives in Toronto with her Canadian-born husband Avi Lewis, who comes from a very well known Canadian leftist political family.
Does having American parents allow her to claim American citizenship? Maybe it does. I don't know. From what I've read, she doesn't want to be known as an American. She shudders at the thought. Read some of her columns.

Bullshit is right. Pure nonsense. At an operation as large as the G20, in a city as large as Toronto with a large number of different police forces in play and the fact that they had to maneuver in a very specific and unfortunately slow manner, it's no wonder they didn't get to those specific places in time to stop a car from burning.
The price tag is strange, and I have yet to see any sort of breakdown to justify it, but I do not see any reason to be bitching about response time.

Watch the videos you will see officers walked away from these cop cars and just left them in the open, CTV reported that "It seems they are leaving these cop cars on purpose" even before they were smashed. CTV was even trying to justify it by saying the plan must be to let them smash these cars and hope the protesters just get tired and go home. Were you watching any of the live events that went on? Especially in that specific hour?

Also... fake lakes and improperly rejuvenating towns in central Ontario. I'm not a fan of the conspiracy theories about this whole event. What it was is a cluster fuck and we should be infuriated.
