If the springers are meant to be hunting dogs, they typically get the tail docked so it doesn't get caught in brush.

I love how these pups walk towards the owner. My Springer has been doing that since he was able to walk. and we can go on walks anywhere without a leash and he'll stay with me. Springers are the best dogs when it comes to loyalty and love.

Yeah i have an English Springer he is 1 years old i live in the UK and its illegal but im sure its got somethin to do with them being very energetic we are always warned to watch his tail because when they get excited they wag there tails violently and the vet says they can actually split their tail if they bang it off of stuff not to sure really as its tradition they get them cut.

@ESSgames no its not illegal in europe to cut their tail ... you have to cut their tail when their young because they can grow their tails very long and if their excited they could bash their tail off somthing and break it :)

@mewbecca12 when the breed started out th base of their tail had fur that got easily matted so they took them off, and so the tail kinda got breeded out, they will still have a mother have a long tail out every now and then, at least thats what ive been told

My grandma had a springer spaniel. Josie was a gorgeous brown and white one just like these (they had a black and white one before I was born). She was my baby. She was with me every day (yes, I go to my grandma's that often) from the day I was born until the day she died 2 years ago. That was hands down the worst loss I have ever suffered. The great thing with springers is that they're ideal children dogs , we have two and kids can pull them around the place and they're like ' oh god here we go again ' .

We also have a blue roan cocker spaniel who is the complete opposite .

Definately springers are tops , somebody said springers are most scattiest ( mad as march hares ) betwen 2-4 years old , but we had one that was 15 yrs old that was completey scatty .

You don't realise how much you miss them untill their gone .

@xBoXHaCKx Well, springer spaniels are slightly bigger than cocker spaniels (the working/field type or the show type) so if you prefer a smaller dog then a working cocker is for you! But beware because they are both very lively breeds!

Her name was Bonnie like the criminals/outlaws of the Great Depression named Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow. Old age was the cause of this animal. I really miss her! My parents got a Springer from the pound, that had been kicked out of his last house. He was hyper, mischievous, and also the greatest dog I've ever known. It is interesting, with all his so called flaws I still loved that dog. Springers need exercise and a mix of a firm hand and patience. If you don't have a yard or an area to run them, don't even think about getting one. If you live on farm, they would be great.

Hi Jack. We have an ESS. They are the best dogs around. If you are always nice to the dog, it will treat you nicely too. The ESS is naughty in a nice way when young, but is very easy to train. The trainer said our dog is a good dog, and doesn't need any more training. Everyone loves the ESS dogs also. Have a good look at the video, and see what I mean. :)

springers take a lot of work. Especially if you get them as pups. They need lots of room to run. Our springer just turned two and she still wants at least an hour long walk and a good session of constant fetch. She's the perfect little girl but we put a lot of time an effort to get her that way.

And on a side note, look at all the freckles!!!!
