A wild animal being killed in the wild, as long as it's done quickly and cleanly, is much more humane than a cow that's been kept in a cage it's whole life on a big meat plant being killed could ever be. Now I'm not slamming beef or anything like that, I eat it too, but if I were an animal and had a choice I'd rather grow up wild and free and be shot out there than grow up in a cage and end up in a knockbox.
Arguments like the ones I see in the comments really annoy me. I live in the Texas countryside, I own and know how to use (and have used) a rifle, I have killed my own chickens and gutted them, I have gutted deer, and I know plenty of other people who do so. Killing a wild animal for food is not inhumane or bad. A lot of poorer families out here depend on it, and the richer ones who hunt for sport often donate the meat to our food lockers for those who need it to survive.
While it is a more humane, quick way for the turkeys to be killed, you know it won't be long before some idiot tries it on a deer or other animal and ends up either horribly mutilating it and leaving it alive, or doing something incredibly stupid and getting himself or someone else badly hurt with it.
I actually hear this is one of the best ways to kill a turkey. Instant decapitation doesn't draw out the death. Everything in moderation right? Just don't over hunt the wild population.

We always kill the strongest, biggest, male we have find leaving the weak and ill-equipped animals to pass their genes. Just because an animal dies from unnatural causes (becoming prey is a natural cause by the way) does not mean that it has not mated numerous times within its life span. the biggest and strongest within a species typically get the most mates, and almost all of these specimens have seeded many times before their death (keep in mind that the biggest and strongest are also matured animals). This is also why hunting seasons always occur AFTER an animal's mating season has completed.
