The oil companies are out for a profit, but the 50 cent a gallong the govt. gets for nothing, plus the public's refusal to drill off of Cal. & Florida and not approve new refineries or nuclear reactors (France has many more of them) has to be mentioned in any parody for the comments to ring true and not sound hollow. I feel for those whose livelihoods depend fuel. However, it's pathetic that many Americans don't realize how wasteful yet privileged they've been with respect to personal transportation, like addicts complaining about the cost of their fix.

Where I live, I swear every other car is a big truck or SUV. Now gas avgs $4. Recently, I watched a couple grumbling as they filled up their brand spanking new FJ Cruiser. I thought, "Where were you guys when you decided to buy that, under a rock? Morons!"

I disagree. Maybe you should know that normal S&D doesn't work in the conventional way in oil commodities. Because demand for oil and gasoline is inelastic

Part 2)

The 5 big oil companies have formed a pact with each other. They are one big company.

They control all aspects of oil production both upstream and downstream.

There is no shortage of supply. The "Big 5" aka "Big oil" artificially manipulate supply in order to create the illusion of a shortage. Therefore, the price will spike upwards when oil futures a traded on the NYMEX.

Higher prices = more profits for them.

If the high price of crude causes a higher gasoline price, then they shouldn't be making any additional profits right? That supposedly is their justification for the high gas prices. "The Saudis are refusing to produce more oil, blah, blah, blah)"

Wrong! All 5 oil companies report "record beaking profits" every quarter to the SEC. Something doesn't compute. The "high price of crude" is an false excuse to spike the gas prices up.

If you don't like high gas prices, don't buy it. If you say, "Oh, I have to get to work", ect., take a bus, train, bike. If you live too far, serves you right for living so far from your job.
