Are these wild specimens? I'd assume so, I do a lot of herping and find these, I have a small collection right now and I'm thinking getting a sub-adult next time I'm out. I have tried to get these to eat rodents, with little success, what should I do? I just keep stuff outside to have perfect temps, since I'm in Florida.
Spinelessscales; these are coachwhips... (at least I think the second snake is) they eat snakes, lizards, birds, rodents, etc. and wouldn't have to be starving to eat eachother, same size or not. and what he was describing isn't cannabilism, it's accidental, they start eating at one end and continue until they're done, eating the snake connected on the other side of the mouse... It doesn't happen too often in the wild but it can and has happened.
Due to my own coachwhip videos, I found this as a related vid, and although the comments are a year old, they need to be addressed. DaBoaDude; overall I agree with what you said, but as long as he stayed right there, he'd be able to seperate them before anything serious happened, still not a good idea though.
They are very smart snakes, but they are also very nervous. All three that I've had calmed down over the course of a couple weeks. You shouldn't have a problem with them if you don't mind a snake that doesn't like to sit still while it's being handled.
They look about the same size. As long as they're fed regularly, there's no need to worry about cannibalism. One would have to be EXTREMELY hungry...like go for months without food...before trying to take on a snake its own size.
they're not that aggressive. i mean i could handle their bite. although i bled few drops, but it doesn't hurt at all. if they are common around you, why don't u go snake hunting?? it's fun, but don't go alone. i don't think it's illegal to keep coachwhips. u might need to check that.
It's a permanent enclosure for both of these snakes(coachwhip and black rat snake). I guess it's pretty good for them, they really don't roam around. So I guess even bigger tank would make no difference. I always feed them separately but this was the only time I fed them together(I've been told it's ok to feed a coachwhip and a rat snake together) so i gave it a shot. Eventually I had to separate them because things didn't go well.
yeah i guess, i'll be uploading a new one of my kingsnake eating a garter/garden snake. so amazing. but i have to cut off few clips coz it's too long. he spend like 30 mins to strangle the garter snake! i almost slept next to him, lool.
no not really..my snakes are laid back although they still kinda wild. but i handle them from time to time to make them getting used to ppl.
mine are not venomous. and can't seriously hurt me. they're not gonna grow more than what u saw(6 ft, i guess). it pretty much depends on what kinda snake u have. what do mean "and youre fourteen?" I didnt get it, sorry.
I don't think a ratsnake and coachwhip are able to cross breed I know theres half king snakes and ratsnakes or bullkings or bull rats but you did give me a good idea try to breed a racer/coachwhips cause there related
also as you probly know allready becareful feeding any two snakes at the same time they may both go for the mouse at the sametime I've had it happen just had to run water down there throats I beleave there right wen they say both racers and coachwhips are highly entellagent snakes cause if that other snake was half his size I'm almost positive he would try to eat it but since its a bigger snakes its like hes aware of the risk not even the racer I had took mice down like that
yup and coach whips are snake eaters too don't use a live one but If you find a fresh roadkilled or other killed smaller snake use something to hold it by the tail and dangel it infront of coachwhip the reason why i say not a live one is I just don't beleave in feeding snakes to kingsnakes, indigo snakes, racers or coachwhips
wow he moved fast is that a eastern coachwhip it also looked like he thought about attacking the other snake wich looks like a blackrat snake very cool vid please be careful keeping them two together coachwhips are cannibalistic even thought they prefer smaller snakes its still not the best idea you got one thats a constrictor the other that has strong jaws they might be smarter then kingsnakes wich will attack snakes larger then them selfs I can't beleave how fast he swallowed that great vid

haha. yes they have an ass...flat one, lool.
it's called "cloaca". around the base of the tail, just like lizards i guess. They mate and crap from that opening.

I hope that is not a permanent enclosure for both of those coachwhips. Do you think it might be a good idea to feed them separately?

yeah ur right.
they did fight over the 3rd rat i threw!! not a real fight but they just bit each other.
After that I separated them and then continued feeding them.
the one who gave me the snakes told me it's ok to feed them in the same tank! but I think not with my snakes!! they will hurt each other.

Very fast snake, good movie, but the floor is too bright and you camera cannot handle it - snake is too dark. But anyway, 5 stars earned.
