  • The gusset part of the sock has defeated me for years. Not any more! Thank you Dorret!!!!!

  • Have to say I'm very disappointed with this tutorial. She is so inconsistent, switching socks and numbers of CO's. I managed to make my way through the other setbacks, but now she fails to explain the shaping of the toes into a taper... I can't finish my sock.

  • Great instructions!! I've been surfing the web for sock instructions and yours are fantastic! You're instructions are clear and concise and easy to understand! Thank you so much!!! I'm going to look on the UK websites for additional tutorials! So much easier to understand than my southern drawl ... :)

  • Thank you so much for your series on how to knit a sock. Your instructions are clear and I feel confident to at least give it a try. :)

  • what a lovely person,

  • How can you tell which needle is #1 #2 and #3? I'm helplessly lost :(

  • Thank you, you are a great teacher. I appreciate you taking the time to teach me, so orofessional, thank you.

  • Wonderful video...I now know I can knit socks! Thank you!

  • really incredible that last bit at the end where you sew the stich together. I've never seen a technique like that

  • I'm making my first pair of socks and Your videos have helped a lot! I've been going back and forth from the pattern that I have and your videos (since I'm a visual learner) and so far so good! Thanks for making this series.

  • Love the clear slow paced directions! Now I'm not scared to make socks anymore.

  • thank you so much for this, I am making my first pair of socks and don't think I could have done it without this series of videos

  • I've been knitting for 30 years and had never done socks. My grandmother had tried to teach me when I was a teenager but she got sick before I could finish. Thanks to your calming voice and clear instructions I've done my first sock of many. I've got everyone in my family she use to make them for, wanting me to give them some for Christmas.

  • Thank you very much for the demonstration.

These videos that I have watched are the best ever.

This is my first sock that I have knitted through your videos and they are very helpfull.

    Again thank you very much:)))

  • Just finished my first sock and am very happy with it. This is due in no small part to Dorret's videos. Sometimes it is hard to read a pattern and understand why you are being instructed to do certain things - these videos help explain and make sense of those instructions. Thank you so much!!

  • Thank you so much for posting these. I especially enjoyed the grafting stitch. I am also a beginner and knitting, and I'd love to have a go at socks, but I'm a bit nervous about it. Thank you for making it look as easy as it does on your video. :)

  • This is the best video I have seen for knitting a sock. The video is very clear, the narrative is really clear, assuming that the viewer knows nothing and moving step by step. I made practice sock and am now working on a real pair. Thank you very much for this! Can someone enlighten me on how choose the correct size for the sock, i.e., how to measure the foot properly for the right length and width? Again, thanks.

  • I never would have understood my sock pattern if I hadn't watched this video. Thanks!

  • after the needles 1 and 3 have the same no. of sts as needle 2 do you still decrease like before or do you just knit normally?

  • The pattern I use says to stop decreasing when the total number of st on needles 1&3 equals the number on needle 2. Just knit around until the foot of the sock is about 2 inches shorter than the foot you're making it for. Then you start the toe decrease.

  • thx ^^

  • You just knit normally or in your pattern. At least that is what I did on the sample and it worked out just fine.

  • Excellent instructions! Thank you very much. This has been a great help.

  • Thank you for such wonderful diction clear instructions terrific video closeup KUDOS!!

  • Thank you so much for your videos. They're fantastic.

  • Thanks! Finally someone who has a video on how to knit with more than two needles! I've been puzzled on this for a while!

  • I have to thank you very very much as well!! Yu have taught me how to knit socks!! They're fun to make!

Very grateful to you, God Bless you!

  • thank you thank you thank you!!!!!!!!!!

    this helped so much!!!

  • The idea of knitting socks has always interested me but I've found it quite intimidating. Ive always learned best by example.

So thank you very much. I've found my motivation to try this out.

  • To read and understand the basic technicalities of a pattern is one thing ... to see it happening is something else all together.

That is why I REALLY appreciate actually being able to SEE happening what it is my pattern is talking about.

    Thank you SO much!!

  • thank you so much for your video i may have to go back a few times to get the heel part the video show s me alot lizz

  • YaY! I finally finished my first sock, it only took three weeks =P

It's would probably fit bigfoot, it's so HUGE but I am so proud! I think I'll use it for a Christmas stocking.

Thank you SO much for your help with the toe grafting, it really had me stumped =]

  • Ms. Dorret Conway, you are officially my BFF (best friend forever) for saving me from a sock disaster! I was a hopeless mess of yarn and DPN's until you made it so understandable to me. Mom taught me to knit, but she's gone and I have naught to turn to. You are a dear. I'll be forever grateful for how demystifying you've made this for me. God bless you!

  • Fabulous videos....thanks for making sock knitting understandable!

  • Thank you so very much for your very instructional videos on making socks. I've only been knitting for almost 2 years this year and I was so afraid to try to knit socks. I had never used double points before and was very intimidated by them but thanks to you, I have totally made the top part of my first pair of socks and now starting on turning the heel. Thanks again.

  • thank god for you and your calming voice and clear slow paced directions. I'm making my second pair of socks with your amazing help. I'm knitting for over 25 years but never tried socks. I have no guidance except for books but your video puts it all together for me. The directions in the pattern clicked in my head when I saw you actually work the magic. So instead of throwing the thing out the window Im off to make the gussets on sock #3. So thanks again

  • Thank you so very much for posting. I have tried to learn to knit from books, but gave up. Not any more. Your videos have helped me & I am now kniting socks! Something I never thought I could do. Yay! Thanks again.

  • all of my family meber's are gettin socks for christmas presants. they're just so warm and fuzzy! i did this pattern with some wool yarn, it feels like cotten!

    thanks for uploading

  • These videos are the best way to learn. I'm a begginer at knitting (I mostly crochet) and I've been looking for tutorials on socks and this one is the best by far. Now, can we have tutorials on knitting gloves, please? Pretty please??? *puppy eyes* =D

Btw, thank you very, very much!

  • Pleased that it worked for you.

I did this as part of a series called "Ask the Expert" for a newspaper. If I get the opportunity to do more I will.

But gloves are easy. They aren't usually done on circular needles so if you can do this, have a go at reading a pattern for gloves.
