That's why they developed the M-4 carbine, a shorter version of the M16. Many units deploy with the M-4 because modern wars are increasingly fought in house to house close quarters combat and carrying around our old school long ass rifles made for less than ideal situations when fighting agaist the shorter and much lighter AK-47.
