  • Played like a true pike.

  • That was friggen awesome! What mouthpiece/reed combo do you use?

  • @kashonair Thank you for your kind words. At the time this video was made I played a stainless steel Berg Larsen 90/1 with either Vandoren Java's or V16's.

  • @colbybelk Haven't played for 3 years? That's such a shame. You should stick with it broski. You've put a lot of time in to sound like that. Please tell me that you play more than just gospel. You could be getting paid on the side to play gigs at small venues in and around where you're from I'm sure. It would be a fun hobby. If I were that good, that's what I'd be doing certainly.

  • Good stuff! This is one of the first songs I learned on my sax. Thanks for sharing, I loved it! Continue to blow! Don't ever give up! You don't know how many people you are blessing but God is keeping a count, so don't stop blowing!

  • Truly awful! Sickening!

  • gah i can't believe you're that amazing! lol. have to share the amazingness now.

  • WOW - that was fantastic - great to see such talent . Australia

  • God must be like this :D

    Amazing

  • Wow! Thats awesome! Man, you're an amazing player. Would u share the sheet music?

  • Thank you. I'm sorry, there is no sheet music.

  • It's been 3 years. Can you still play

  • I can.

  • Please have my children.

  • If you say the tuning is off... you never played altissimo on a saxophone without 30 years of practice.

  • Há uma unção sobre esse homem...

  • i bet hes a good tenor player

  • beautiful playing!!! 5*

  • Thats awesome Bro. Did you write this if so do you share your music

  • Joseph Scriven wrote what a friend we have in Jesus

  • You've got skills. I like your phrasing, you're not overly busy, (not alot of notes-just the right ones)and you let the sax do the work ( a mark of good horn players) How do you make the sax growl like you did at the 50 second mark. also what mouth piece ligiture and reedsdo you use. I like metal mouth pieces but my instructor is pushing me towards a hard rubber New york Meyer curious what you thought

  • @Warmachine48235 The growl effect is done by singing into the mouth piece. AS far as a good new york meyer goes youll be paying around $700 upwards for a good vintage one if you can get one. I play an otto link 5 slant signature vintage which you can get for about $350 and blows fantastic heaps of projection beautiful tone and edge etc..cheers

  • Awesome. Such a blessing. How can I buy a CD?

  • Nicely done!

  • Wow glory be to God.

  • Keep playing for HIM!

  • Very good!!!

  • Nice, Colby!

  • Wow!!! Giving praises to God through song. Music is therapy for the soul. Come by and take a listen to some of my gospel songs on SAXOPHONE. Give God all the glory.

  • sounds good :)

gimme some time and i play just like him...NOT :p

  • NOT the best sounding sax i have heard.

  • lol yea me too...be on the look out YOUTUBE

  • That guy on the guitar sucked... didn't have the tiniest bit of feel for the music... came in with shit at all the wrong times.

  • It is really out of tune.. but good improvization though...

  • This is so brilliant! I can't wait till I can play this good!

  • praise God with all that is within us!

amen and Bro. you have with your gift in music!

  • niiceeee

  • God deserve the best, and this was great.

  • Amazing! The whole band was synchronized very well. Keep playing for The Lord. Truly a blessing for upcoming gospel sax musicians like myself.

  • THATS WAS THE BEST I EVER HERD ON A SAX

  • @wigginsboi This must be the only saxofonist you've heard!

  • @coppens No, I just liked it a lot.

  • Very nicely done. Loved it!

  • this is amazing Colby! I wish I had a church where I could play with a band like this; i love playing this kind of music and being centre instrument with my sax!! god bless you!

  • hi my friend.....nice but I THINK YOU GET LAZY WITH SO MUCH VIBRATO.....so the next time try to have the control......

  • Nice work!

  • very nice

  • VERY NICE! Loved it.

  • nice vibrato. Best of heard on youtube outside of the amstel quartet(which is strictly classical)

    Nice job on bending notes...

  • Thanks. I used to have a lot of control. But it's easy to develop bad habits, and sometimes I'm afraid I get lazy with the vibrato. You just made me feel better.

  • Amen to that! I get a bad habit of using my diaphragm(sp.) to create a vibrato...

  • Why is it bad habit? Just a different way of creating a vibrato that sounds differently as well.

  • Because, #1 your more prone to going flat #2 you lose a large portion of breath control #3 you have less control of pitch, especially high notes. #4 It doesn't really sound to much different.

It's good that u seem open to ideas as far as learning goes, artists Arno Bornkamp and Thomas Kelland have both recommended i use my ambiture(sp.)

  • I completely disagree with you :) I find they sound completely different. Intonation vibrato sounds traditional way, breath vibrato sounds more like sound emerging/fading away cyclically. One player that pops to my head that does that often is Kenny G.

The drawbacks you noted are dependent on your skill not on the vibrato :) And you absolutely not loose the breath control you only gain it. Breath vibrato is all about breath control.

  • I play some gospel on with ny sax at various churches. People always love to hear it. I love your feel. Great Job.

  • gcril, are you Romanian too, colby another thanks from Romania

  • WOW Praise the Lord that awesome!!! What mouthpiece and reed are you using? and what brand of sax is that?

  • why does it matter about the mouthpiece and reed?

  • The mouthpiece and reed (and ligature in fact) have a massive difference on the sound a sax produces so I'm sure saxiano was just wondering for reference....

  • but not as much as the size and shape of your oral cavity, the diametre of your throat, the size of your lungs and the individual way your diaphragm works. i could play michael breckers sax and sound nothing like him!

  • true the player has just as much effect if not more, but I just don't think your reply to saxiano was justified; all he wanted to know was how colby made such a nice sound!

  • all im sayin is that its a pointless question and one which i get asked far too often!

  • Played with Spirit!

  • thanks for this video, im a tenor saxophonist beginner and your video really inspired me a lot, its really touching. may god bless you.

  • Thanks, from Romania! this is soo nice! Amaizing.

God bless. Please post more. Cristi

  • Very good! God bless!

  • nice growl at :58 and beautiful pop up at 1:52 and at 4:10 really blessed me. nice job m8

  • Thanks, I'm not positive about which parts your talking about so I'm going to watch it again. Thanks, I'll have some more videos coming up soon. In the meantime, you can hear some of my other specials on my ShoutLife page on the mp3 player at the top of the page. I have "O I Want To See Him" and "Just A Little Talk With Jesus" uploaded.
