I'm a bit confused by your statement...are u saying d ozeki is expected to be stronger than a yokozuna, when isn't it the yokozuna is a higher rank than an ozeki?
Just read this on a wiki page: "If a yokozuna is defeated by a lower ranked wrestler, it is common and expected for audience members to throw their seat cushions into the ring (and onto the wrestlers), though this practice is technically prohibited." so ur right about that.
I guess the audience expected/wanted Hakuho to win, no?:)
No no, the ozeki is the rank just after the yokozuna, that is true. But while some years ago it was not rare that an ozeki won against a yokozuna, when Asashoryu got yokozuna, even the ozeki couldn't beat him. Due to this, there was almost no chance to throw the zabuton on the ring!! And so, from then on, even if it was an ozeki to beat the yokozuna, the audience took the chance to throw the zabutons, and it became a habit.
Also now that there are two yokozunas, that habit remains.
Yes, you are right. Some years ago, the audience threw the zabutons when the yokozuna was beaten by a sekiwake or less. However, when Asashoryu became yokozuna, he was so strong that even an ozeki couldn't beat him. Due to this, the audience changed the manners, throwing the zabutons every time a yokozuna loses, even if the opponent is an ozeki, and even a yokozuna himself .
lol it seems like only time he smiles is when he wins the whole month and gets that award, and when he beats hakuho cuz he is the only one to be proud of if he beats him

Ah, I got it now. Grazie!
I'll remember this if I ever get the chance to throw zabutons in the (far) future. Thanks again.

What does it mean when the audience throw those square seat cushions (?) towards the ring/wrestlers?
yeyetf 2 years ago
I don't know if it has some specific meaning, but they do so every time a yokozuna (the top rank) loses the match

But isn't it that both Asashoryu and Hakuho are yokozunas?
Or is it because specifically a reaction vs Asashoryu for whatever reason...

Good match. I would have like to have seen Hakuho win, but I think Assashoryu fought well and deserves it...
Nice to see he was a good sport as a winner.

Thank you.
Do you by chance have the full 14 day winnings by Asa?
kenponjon 3 years ago
I have only Asashoryu VS Harumafuji, Kotomitsuki, Kotooshu and Baruto. (I already put separate videos of these matches)
Unfortunately I am travelling and I could not do more than this, sorry!
