  • Is this a model 8BH? Looks like it. Nice vid!

  • I just read on the Briggs and Stratton website faq page that 90 % of their engines and parts are made in the U.S.A.!!!!!

  • @kvhpkh

Buy them here while you can!!!

  • Aluminum frame.

  • Put it on a boat!

  • Brings back lots of memories when I was younger mowing our yard at home. Its too bad Briggs and Stratton doesn't build these engines anymore.

  • would u sale it!!!!!!

  • i just picked up an old cooper "klipper" reel mower the other day for free. check out the video on my channel

  • my dad used to have one like this, i would be very interested in buying this, message me

  • Back when B&S was built in America!

  • @KenMacMillan, yup, this one still runs great

  • @KenMacMillan

Which alone indicates why I'd go after a mower this old... and no newer than 1995. One that I hope to obtain will have an engine with the "Pull-N-Go" vertical-pull start, what my Tecumseh-powered 1984 Toro 20672 blade-brake-clutch-equipped rear-bagger has.

  • @ClassicTVMan1981X a question, what year did they made the crank start mower, like to find me one of those mowers

  • @SpiritsoftheWolf

The "Shock-Free"? They introduced it in 1960 and dropped it in 1971. It didn't sell well due to some maligned users leaving the spring in the open position, which if fully wounded would cause the handle to swing back violently at them, starting the engine (especially dangerous if the user's hand or foot was near the blade).

  • @ClassicTVMan1981X, ok i saw some mowers like that at a junkyard, but was in bad condition for me to get them and fix them up again

  • @SpiritsoftheWolf

And if you did, you'd be paying lots of money to do so.

  • @KenMacMillan : B&S engines are not American anymore?

  • @GETRDUN Unfortunately, no. They're made in China & I think they make some in Thailand.

  • @KenMacMillan

I wonder if the Thai factories Honda employs for some of its engines are based in Chiang Mai, once the home to the Lanna kingdom?

  • thank you :).... u have good taste....very rare mower

  • Thank u ....let me know if u change your mind....why r u so attached to this mower?....how did u end up with it?

  • @jusrenlin, this mower mows great, even in the tall grass, it never bogs down, and this one was trash picked, the only thing is wrong with it, it needed a new head gasket, and if i do changed my mind, you got the 1st dibs

  • are you selling this mower?

  • Das ist ja ein echtes Sammlerstück

  • @detolefo, ja ist es, ich mäht noch mit ihm hin und wieder, nicht eine jede Wochensache, und es geht nirgendwo nicht von mir

  • your lawn mowwer is dumb

  • your lawn mowwer is dumb

    phatest 32 minutes ago

@phatestm, and you are a stupid bitch that failed at spelling, it's MOWER, not MOWWER, DEERRRRR! you are the DUMBEST fraulein! you couldn't play a guitar, let alone you laughing like a bunch of retards, you sing just like justin bieber in his hayday, thanks for the comment on my video, i will now take it and leave it on another comment.

  • nice briggs/ dammmm try and fine one of those today.....very hard to fine...especialy the parts, old skhool is the best, of all kinds...better built, american built.

  • wow one pull start awesome,,,ya ya take that grass...

  • Comment removed

  • @jocelynn2007, it still starts on one pull even when it sits for over 10 to 12 month of sitting

  • i think its a cool old mower , and im gladd this aint one of those stupid vids,, where they destroy perfect mowers just for fun,,,but hey man no offence but it sounds like you need to watch your health,, but it was a good video,,thanks

  • @filiberto13, no offense taken, it's my allerygy, it always starts in april and goes on to late may

  • That is a very cool old mower I bet that thing will out last four or five brand new lawn mowers.

  • Lawn Boys are not the only ones that made that design. That might not be a lawn boy. It is wierd looking though.

  • not one bit of plastic on this

  • did you have a blocked nose when filming this?

  • @EXTREME4YEARSTOCOME, almost, allergy season, always in the spring

  • @SpiritsoftheWolf is it 4 cycle? its kinda a stupid question

  • @christhetromboneguy, LoL i have never seen a 2 stroke briggs engine before, and the block is bigger than a 2 stroke, so yes, this is a 4 stroke engine

  • @SpiritsoftheWolf k ya it was a stupid question just the wheel arrangement reminded me of lawnboys wich are 2 cycle

  • @christhetromboneguy, LoL, yea i seen the awkward style of lawnboys are:)

  • @SpiritsoftheWolf and they kept the same desighn for years, this one guy had a 37 jacobson, running

  • no Tecumseh would last that long and then start

  • @jjproctor, hahahaha nope sure wouldn't

  • I like those old mowers they are much more reliable then the newer ones. We have A Bolens made in 06 but instead of using this thing i use my two Lawnboys from 1972 and 82 they are so much more comfortable and handyer then this new junk ;) Thanks to the magnesium body =)

  • @mofaraider, i do too, this has more power than my 2.75 and 4.5 hp MTD mowers, and they are briggs engine and this engine on the cooper mower is only 3hp

  • The Cooper decks were made in Marshalltown Iowa, which is where my grandparents live.

  • @matkovicha, that's cool, i still have that mower and it runs great and cuts fantastic!

  • @SpiritsoftheWolf My grandpa still has one of those mowers, and it does a great job.

  • do you still have it

  • yup i still have it, its not going nowhere from me

  • Runs pretty darn good!!! Deck looks solid, too.

  • it is, nothing is stronger than this aluminum deck by cooper, and it run fantastic, not a drop of oil was burned

  • that is nice 5*****

  • The B&S 60700 and 61700 (2.25 hp) were produced from 1958 to 1963; while the 80700 and 81700 (3 hp) were produced from 1958 to 1964. All four had been replaced by the (3 hp) 82900 series in July 1964, and that series in turn had been replaced by the much-loved (3.5 hp) 92900 series in June 1965. The 92900 line was joined by the (4 hp) 110900 series in August 1973. The Quiet-Power series 94500 and 94900 were introduced in 1979, joined by the 113900 in 1981.

  • that sounds great!

  • i got an old 22hp snowblower engine 18 yrs old and hasnt been run in 3 years , gas tube is cracked open and it looks pretty rough is it still good pm me or reply to this please if anyone kinows

  • do you still have it ?

  • yup i still have it, i just ran it 2 weeks ago, runs like a top

  • the year of a briggs is easily found

in the shroud there are 3 numbers, Model, Serial, and Code

the first 2 digits of the Code number is the year the engine was made, as long as it is the original shroud.

That is a one piece Flo-Jet carburetor, a very good model. I like the oil bath air filter as well, great old mower!

  • i'll have to find it again... and yes every thing on this mower is all original

  • The engine should have its serial # from anywhere between 5808010 (August 1, 1958) to 6107310 (July 31, 1961). Again, the model # should be either 60702 or 61702 if it's 2-1/4 hp, or either 80702 or 81702 if it's 3 hp.

  • @ClassicTVMan81, i finally found the numbers from the cooper briggs engine it's a 1958 mower, model 80702 serial 944125 code 5811240, damn numbers was hidden behind the label, my guess, not the original label, how i found out, i took the shroud housing off and seen the punched numbers from the inside

  • @SpiritsoftheWolf

3 hp engine, manufactured Nov. 24, 1958, which makes the mower a 1959 model.

  • @ClassicTVMan81, k thanks

  • @ClassicTVMan81, got another question for you, on the tecumseh engine my next door neighbor has, TVS90 43605F Ser 8058A, would the lawn mower be a 1980 model i wonder? i didn't know if it's the same thing they do on briggs engine

  • @SpiritsoftheWolf

Nope. That one is a 1988 model. Why? The Julian date-format serial # breaks down as:

    8 - calendar year 1988

    056 - calendar year day 56, or February 25, 1988.

    A - assembly plant/shift code.

  • @ClassicTVMan81, k he asked me if i know the year of his mower and i said i don't know, i don't get into tecumseh models, and when i saw that i wasnt for sure, my thought the 1st 2 numbers of the serial numbers was the year of the mower

  • not THAT'S and oldie!!!!! nice mower

  • lol my nieghbor had one of these and he uses it all the time

  • HA! that proves it outlast all these newer mowers with plastic carbs

  • A good way to find the age of the lawn mower is to look at the code on the blower housing (engine). The last set of numbers (also the longest set) has the year. It's the first two digits.

  • i wonder wher the hell they got the idea for front discharge lawn mower decks

  • i wondered that myself too

  • she's OLd not COLD!!!

  • Whoa! Sounds awesome! I like the asymmetrical wheel arrangement! Nice mower!

  • briggs is the best engine ever made if they sit a long tim they fire right up

  • yes it does, you should check out my other old briggs engine "1953 briggs 1st fire after 3 years of storage" 3 years of sitting idle, it fired up on 1st pull

  • Be aware there aren't as many slower-moving replacement parts for the 60700, 61700, 80700 and 81700 series nowadays.

  • ok, thanks for the info, i dont use it a lot, just at a antique engine shows, and i just picked up a snapper rider with a tecumseh engine and 3 briggs engines, one of the briggs engine has a oil filler on the front of the engine block, i will get a video of it soon and i will post it to show it to you

  • Please point me to the new video that you made, thanks. I like watching old engines run.

  • Nice machine. Early float carbs are great. You can dial those bad boys in and get them to run perfect. Way better than the more commmon vacuum pulse carbs.

  • yes they are, i mowed with it and it mows perfectly, and it does not burns any oil

  • good mower

  • WOW!! First pull! holy crap! nice nice machine!

  • thanks, and it mows really good, even though the grass isnt high around here, i mowed at my mom's house and it mows really good

  • and it runs better than the new ones

  • yes it does slain, i mowed my mom grass with it today, and it ran like a top

  • holy shit nice mower

  • thanks

  • ok i will try to find it, unless the sticker covered the numbers

  • Wow that's weird how they set up the fuel system with that fuel line going around the head

  • yea it is, the only thing wrong with it was a blown head gasket, and it was a cork type head gasket, i put on a new head gasket and it fires right up on the 3rd pull (before the video) and have no idea how long it has been sitting

  • id say its a lawn boy seeing the offset front wheels

  • lol looks like it, i have never seen a mower like this

  • That Briggs & Stratton engine looks like one of the following:

    *Model 6B-H (2.25 hp) (1953-1958)

    *Model 8B-H (2.75 hp) (1953-1958)

    *Model 60700 or 61700 (2.25 hp) (1958-1964)

    *Model 80700 or 81700 (3 hp) (1958-1964)

I presume the engine is perhaps from before 1958.

  • i tried to find the numbers on it, couldnt find it, anyplace it can be at?

  • They can be found if you look right above the muffler. Perhaps they've been scratched off since...

  • ok, next question for ya, the 2 needle valves on the carb, how many turns do i need to set it on ( for an older mower so i can let it run without half choke on and which needle is high and which is low, thanks!

  • This engine has a Flo-Jet carburetor (most other B&S lawnmower-size engines of the '60s, '70s and early '80s have either Vacu-Jet or Pulsa-Jet carburetors).

  • Maybe 2 and a half turns (would they be clockwise or counterclockwise?)

  • counterclockwise if rich is wat u want, clockwise is lean is wat u want

  • ok, i will try that :-)

  • did it work

  • yes it did, it ran better without partical choke now so i don't use it a lot and i am using premium unleaded gas to clean out the carb really good

  • too bad seafoam is so expensive. Lucas fuel treatment does good. how much did the head gasket cost BTW?

  • gasket cost me like 4 bucks
