  • Hi Benny, my family and i would like to learn to speak mandarin fluently, i'm actually chinese but never learnt , so would like to know exactly where should i start?...thanks.

  • ?!?!?!?!?!

  • "verbs are really important in chinese sentences..."

yeah, cause it's not like they're really important in any and every language....

  • she wants to eat KFC ?!

    lol ! XD

  • I've been told that the Mandarin spoken in Taiwan is the same as any Mandarin except that they use traditional Chinese characters, is this true?

  • Benny I love you!

  • I don't get the difference of says and tell. We use she told me...not she say to me. So my question is...when do I use gao su and when do I use shuo???

  • @xxxxSOSEXYxxxx I'm at the same place as you and I'm guessing, just guessing, you use gao su when someone is saying something to you, and shuo is when you say to someone else. I'm just guessing, so I'm pretty sure it's not right!!

  • @XiaoXiong96 Ha yeah I'm not sure either, but thanks for trying to take a shot.

  • i just remembered gay(gei)..

  • Xiexie Ni Benny...I am already liking Chinese..so very nice of you..

  • @sajidullah you can just say xiexie instead of xiexie ni. xiexie just means "thank you" so you can just say xiexie without the ni. :)

  • Gay - to give ... Epic fail

  • @msnfrenzy don't like it? gtfo.

  • wow, never mind. I just turned 39 yesterday, and my eyes already suck worse. Sorry.

  • Benny I wanted to know some verb conjugation. Few things about perfect past, future, future past, imperfect past if it is possible. Prepositions, pronouns, verbs and adverbs are the main focus.

  • @danfons29 verb+le=did; verb+guo=have done; zai+verb=be doing. For more, you could visit our website 3w.askbenny.cn

    Benny

  • CHINESE IS SO HARD BUT I MUST WORK HARDER TO IMPROVE IT TO GET AN "A" IN MY CHINESE CLASS BECUZ IS IS REQUIRED TO PASS

  • how do u know that TA is him or her? because u also said ni gau su ta which means u tell him/her

  • @alinasif

When you write it out in character, him is 他 and her is 她. So when you write it out in character form you can choose between the two. When you say it I would assume you would know who the person is or who the person is referring to for you to choose which one? Feel free to correct me if I am wrong :)

  • @alinasif In the context of conversation, you can get the message of who TA is referring to

  • xie xie benny

  • I got two quick questions: Do tâ mean she/he and also her/him? and do míng tiân mean tomorrow?

PS: Donno, how I can type '' - '' over letters on my keyboard, that's the raison I use the other type on tâ and tiân. :)

    Thank you in advance,

    The ThundeR

  • @ThundeRMr89

míng tiân does mean tomorrow. My mom says that tâ does mean he/she and her/him.

  • Very excellent video! Like your other videos, thanks for your teaching Benny :D

    Thanks,

    The ThundeR

  • wow!! super teacher!!

  • thanks

  • gei sounds like GAY lolz but itz not

  • I'm Chinese but born In indonesia, I moved to Canada now and for summer I'm gonna study mandarin so hard. I just realized that it is so much easier to learn from indonesia to mandarin than English to mandarin bebause the order of the words are the same

  • 可以用把句子吗?我要学把句子。谢谢benny的这些clip。。。

    打家,我写对吗?

  • Great lessons. its been a while since ive watched Bennys video

I need to Brush up on my Mandarin

  • There are a lot of references to Shanghai I thought they don't speak Mandarin in Shanghai I thought they spoke Wu or some other form of the Chinese language. Anyone Know???

  • @poppycock32 they do but its a form / Dialect of Mandarin

its confusing. in Hongkong they speak cantonese.

the hokkien is spoken in southern Fujian, Taiwan

    ,Malasia & singapore.

  • xie xie ni =)

  • i thought in mandarin when there are two 4th(\) tones are put together the first 4th tone becomes a 2nd(/)? is gao su an exception? :S

  • @HanQ

that should be the 3rd(v) instead of the 4th(\), you can have two 4th tones together : )

  • what does ma mean? other than that, this sooooooooo helps!

  • @darling8gomez

you add a 'ma' to make the sentence a question

e.g. ni hao = you good(hello); ni hao ma? = are you good?(how are you)

  • This is just what I need for my study for HSK!!! I need to listen more and more!! and you just have the right verbs!!! awesome!

  • A bit advanced to me, but it is clealy explained, let's learn! ^_^

  • "zh" is almost like the "ch" sound, only that when you say "ch", the air should come out of your mouth, like saying "chair", on the other hand, "zh" should be said without aspiration.

  • wait how do you know if he says he or she, if ta means the same word? :(

  • @InLoveWithCute in a text you can tell because the letter:

她 is for a woman and

    他 is for a man

Speaking well... you have to know the context

  • @NiharaNao haha, that helps avoid embarassing confusion. You're basically covered in terms of that when you meet someone

  • I like the way he gives because every sentence we use includes a verb at least.

    It's very helpful.

  • all globally you have a talant

  • sorry but i can't distinguish ''zh'' and ''ch''. can you guys help me. thank you

  • Good lesson!

  • you're awesome and this lesson is awesome. i like your pacing; it keeps students on their toes.

  • i like a lot

  • Thanks, this is helpful~ i'll try to say "I need coffee in Chinese every day, since I already say it in English XD

  • Benny lao shi,

I know many Chinese as a foreigner. I have been watching your clips and I would think you slow down, you go kinf of fast, and it hard for students. Learning language is about to memory words (vocabulary) and feel it accent. Do you agree?

  • Hmm...memorizing words are fine but the most important part is knowing how to put it together.

    In other words, forming sentences.

  • hen hao xie xie

  • ni xie xie!

  • in general yes='shi' & no/not='bu'. but i dun tink there's a standard 'yes' & 'no' in mandarin like in english. it depends on the situation.

    1. ni shi ren ma?(are you human?)=shi (yes) & bu shi (no)

    2. ni hui ma?(do you know how?)=hui(yes) & bu hui(no)

    3. ni xi huan wo ma?(do you like me?)

    = xi huan(yes) & bu xi huan(no)

instead of saying juz 'no', we're sayin 'don't like(bu xi huan)', don't know how(bu hui)' etc.i dun tink saying 'bu'(no/not) alone makes any sense, have to add in the verb.

  • pretty much to agree or say yes you answer with the main verb in the question, to say no is the BU plus the verb right after.

  • agreed, there is not actually a Chinese word for yes or no, you either affirm the statement or you say something to the contrary.

interestingly, learning Chinese from English has one weird advantage, in Chinese, only yes/no questions are ended with a "ma", as more open ended ones have no specific clause, even though they have neither yes nor no, we do, therefore we can use that to learn when to use a ma :-)

  • Unfortunately, it's not that cut and dry in Mandarin. Shi and bu shi are the closest to yes and no though. Shi means "is" and bu shi means "is not". Hope that helps.

  • u gotta say the positive form of the verb EG IF SOMEONE TELLS YOU are you XX then you say 'AM' the verb to be

  • shi4 and bu2 shi4

  • man those dramas really paid off. i know everything this video is saying. YAY!

  • 你好! 我是华人! 我从新加坡来的! 哈哈! 我知道华语/ 华文.
