I was lucky enough to be in the audience for show #1. Little-known fact: This clip starts out showing only the top of Dave's desk. This was the second retake of Bill's intro. They reshot for some minor issue, but the first time included the front of the desk which would have caused a continuity problem (watch what Bill Murray does to the desk). Typically they shoot as if it were a live show. Dave remarked that they probably wouldn't have made a fuss if it hadn't been the first show.
Overacting. I remember watching this painfully. There were better actors then, like Schwarzenegger or even Sharon Stone to have interviewed in the first show at CBS. Turned me off right off the bat.

They band was playing "Let's Get Physical." Bill Murray did aerobics to that tune on the very first Letterman show.

Wonder why the band's playing "Gloria".

@WilliamLongfellow , You dont think that is "Physical" by Olivia Newton John? At The end I think it is "The Boys are Back in Town"

the correct spelling is "infamy" but it probably is an inappropriate word in this case.

Bill was the best guest Letterman ever had. And what an athlete he is. LOL.

I prefer the widely acclaimed talented dramatic actor Bill Murray of now.

He should have been in the Olympics with a floor routine like that.

People change, it's part of life and aging. It would be pathetic if no one did. Maybe you should give it a try.

Jesus he was already really bald back then. Suddenly it seems like his hair in KINGPIN might have been real. What a hero.
