in english, a posting trot is a pushing motion. when you rise you should be getting your but out of the saddle by an inch and pushing forward. not sit stand. and your really not sitting on your but on the time to sit, your actually suposed to sit just enough so the area between your butt and your girl parts touches the saddle! then when you rise, try to imagine your belly button is attached to a string being pulled in front of the saddle. your head should not bob up and down really at all.
is posting trot the same thing as standing a little in the saddle? i dont go to a stable to ride.. my grandparents have 3 horses and i just kinda learned to ride on my own.. i usually stand in the saddle a little if i trot or gallop.. can someone help? (: i ride western by the way... if that makes a difference.
In posting you stand up while the horses outside leg is moving forward and sit while its moving back, but its usually just like standing and sitting once you get on the right diagonal. Ive only been riding a few months though so that might be a little wrong, sorry. hoped that helped
dont think of it as 'standing' in the saddle as that implies that you are using the stirrups to go up and down. you need to grip with your thighs and rise and fall with the horse. To get an idea of that, drop your stirrups and then try to post, this will show you exaclty what muscles you should be using when you post. a good ride can post bareback ;) keep that in mind.
its called a two point, whether you ride english or western your seat should be basically the same.
I sat to the trot today for the second time at my lesson (last time I didn't understand what to do so I just sat there, tense) but this time I did research and learned that I should just go totally relaxed and almost limp when I'm sitting to the trot. And, anyway, I did that and it was so much better, a lot smoother. Sitting to the trot was a lot of fun, after I figured it out. I don't think I'm going to like posting as much as I like sitting, but I don't know.
yeh you should really keep ur self relaxed at all times cuz if you tense ur muscles and all u get really distracted and the horse can feel it too apparently :S So if you relax it would come naturally to you :D, good luck ;)
rising trot isnt as hard as sitting trot well thats my i think,i had a trainer who sed 1 2 1 2 wen i trotted.I find this alot harder if you just relax an go with the movment of the horse i find it better.
posting is better for the horse... it takes the weight out of the saddle at the right points in time... sitting the trot is bouncing all over their spine. thats y they teach the horses to trot to slow in western pleasure riding; minimum bounce. if it was bad for the horse y would they do it? its beneficial to the horse... y would rising in and out of the saddle be a riding beneficiary? its FOR the horse.
no i do know a lot about horses i was not thinking and let a trainer tell me this i only believed him because he had over 50 years horse experience and trained the national apha reining champ and i was not thinking so please do not judge me by this i really know a lot about horses and love them to death
its ok i removed the comment so others will not think bad about me and if you could i would appreciate it if you would remove the other comment you posted about me thanks

If you ride western you don't have to stand at all XD, Western is supposed for long distance, So sitting and standing is tireding. XD
