so wait...what are the sword martial arts? i heard kendo but i think i heard another one but didnt quite catch it...can someone tell me it (or all of them) if there even is any other ones?
wait if episode 1 is 30 years before episode 4, then why does Obi-Wan look so much older? In episode 4 he must be about 60ish, in episode 1 he should be about 20? I don't think a 50 year old would look that old.
love that part where theyre doing Darth Maul's make-up XD... i was almost like: "God Maul is such a priss... he seemed so badass during the movie.", coulda sworn he wasreal XD
I think The PHantom menace would be great if george gave a origin of the Sith and jedi like he said in the beginning. If your gonna make a prequel, might aswell cover everything that is left unanswered in star wars. Start by the obvious. George should've spent more time on the story than the special effects and fighting. Not to say i don't like it. i think the action scenes are great, but put as much effort in the story telling than action.
@aleksz4000 wish it was in the movie its an awesome part. if u watch the deleted scenes documentary it shows how they get from that level to the one above it.
The Prequel lightsaber fights were never that interesting. It felt like watching choreographed dancing with glowsticks. Where's the tension? Where's the danger? And don't give me that bullshit that the Jedi and Sith were calm no matter what. So what? They're fighting for their lives. They should at least show the audience that they're feeling the weight of duels. Real fighting doesn't last 30 minutes. It happens quickly and intensely.
you know....i am in an interesting position. I old enough to have grown up on ep 4-6 and young enough to have experienced ep 1-3 from a less established life living with ep 4-6. So....what im trying to say is, i liked ep 1-3 :)
It's kind of funny watching the choreography slowed down here...really becomes evident that Obi Wan and Qui Gonn were politely waiting their turns to step in and hit their blades against Darth Maul's blades while he was dancing around. If those two Jedi decided to really get serious they could have gotten in there and taken him apart.
@bhrackley Trouble is, if he says it it's pretty much canon. I'm still having trouble believing Palpatine could basically brainwash an entire galaxy in two decades....
Its a shame he had to direct episodes 1, 2, and 3. He's really not that good of a director. I think its funny that the episode most think to be the best(Empire Strikes Back) was not directed by him. Hell the only really good movie he ever directed was New Hope.
But seriously, compare that fight to last fight in Return of the jedi. I got goosebumps, but this... is cool and all that, but you don't care a bit about this fight, there is nooone emotions just perfect synchro. Obi wan should try to "kill" Maul, not just waving around in choreography.
Darth Maul should of returned in Attack of the clones and survived at the end of episode 1. Count Doukue what ever you spell his name is the worst villain of them all.
the serious bad guy we never see or understand. why did the coolest character had to be in the worst of the star wars films and gets killed as soon as we see him start to kick ass. what the fuck man.
@F34RT3HR34PP3R lmbo! sorry my STUPID annoying pest of a little brother didn't sign out of my account which made it look like i wrote that crap. smdh.
This shows more of what I don't like about Lucas - he imposed his ideas even in the fighting which I think took away from the effect overall such as how during the fights there was just way too many close ups and it diminished the epic choreography somewhat.
There was also way too much CGI. If you look at what many people consider to be the best movie out of all of them it's probably going to be 'Empire' mostly and that was directed by Irvin Kirschner, not Lucas.
@YoshiroShin yeah. allso bad story telling. the idea of the preacules is ok and the major idea is ok. but how its told is making me want to kill my self.
@gooddarkjedi I also hate that new useless Clone Wars series. The first one was better. As for the movies - I think the prequel trilogy should be completely redone (while keeping Lucas far far away from it)
Episode I's lightsaber duel is the best one in my opinion. Naysayers can say whatever they want about The Phantom Meance, but they cannot deny that the duel is awesome. Even if they do prefer the more traditional style of dueling in the classic trilogy, they should still at least appreciate the hard work and outstanding choreography that Liam Neeson, Ewan McGregor, and Ray Park did for this movie.
I never knew they had to go through such intense training. I thought there was way more CGI, and that some of the moves did not make sense....but now I see it's all perfectly calculated and well thought out. My respect for these actors just went up exponentially.
Neeson and Mcgregor were cast perfectly. That fight with Maul is by far the best fight in the films. Sad for Qui-Gon tho, dies to the first Sith he meets lol >.<
@jonttu881 too bad he fucking ruined episode 1 and 2. the light saber battles in those looked like dacing. i liked the one in episode 5 bechose it seemes so real.
At 3.20 Liam talks about the lightsabers being swung effortlessly. In an original triology interview, Lucas says he wanted the sabers to be swung heavily, like broadswords. I think the prequels lost a lot of the emotion and energy in the duels from this style difference. The prequels kinda changed "knights" into "ninjutsu."
@Krylov223 The original trilogy's fight scenes are a bad joke. I study kendo and iaido and even the prequels' fights are still a bad joke with the exception of Ray Park. You can't fight swinging heavily, it just doesn't work.
It would be cool to see an "Episode 0" and find out how Darth Maul became Sith. I mean, if he wouldn't've been killed by Obi Wan, he would've become Darth Vader, wouldn't he?
Although I don't believe it was NECESSARY to have great fight scenes in Star Wars (considering none of the 4, 5, 6 fight scenes can be considered choreographically great), the way this fight scene was put together for Phantom Menace was amazing.
@MohammedJafar YES, HE IS. Its a shame that they game him that less screentime and text... at least they coul've give him a topless-in-the-rain scene... :D Drool
The main problem isn't that Maul only had a few lines, it's that they had to kill him off in the first film. He's my all time favorite and it would have been awesome to have him survive until the third film and be killed by Anakin.
George Lucas needs to surround himself with people who are willing to critique his work and offer constructive criticism. Film is a collaboration and he seems to have forgotten this in all of his years of fighting for control of his films.
you know who the first real Jedi's were? way back when (i dont remember the exact period in time) a bunch of Samurai wanted to change belief systems to Christianity.
I've read reports online of George Lucas admitting that 'the force' is loosley based off of Christianity. Therfore, by becoming a Christian Samurai you become a Jedi! Cool huh?
as much as i love darth maul, he was up against obi-wan, he stood no chance, dude even killed grievous, who collected lightsabers of fallen jedi AS A HOBBY. still though, wouldn't they have killed palpatine? i hate that guy, dooku, im alright with just because he uses makashi style.
Listen to them describe Ray Park's skills, and yet they don't let him speak. Then they kill him. Makes sense since lucas wanted the fights to be more energetic... Cause Jedi in Luke's time were slower or weaker or had less training right.... He was trained by Yoda ffs. More Clear proof that George Lucas should be erased with time travel and the movies fixed into something un-suck.
@Aggrevaine he was just pointing out that the only people fighting in the originals were old, crippled, or new to it, so none were as good or energetic, even if they were trained by yoda
@TheManowar95 i agree that dooku wasn't as good as maul. but you have to realize who played dooku. it was christopher lee. that guy is amazing and a legend. he's a really talented actor and i also liked him in lord of the rings when he played Saruman.
In the books maul wasn't dead, he came back with 2 mechanical legs but then was killed by a bounty hunter or Luke I think. But yeah Maul should be much stronger.
@IronicSoul999 Omg, did you even read my comment?? He didn't die when Obi-Wan cut him in half he lived and got 2 mechanical legs. He almost died 8 times then finally got killed by a bounty hunter. Noob.
You clearly didn't do you home work. His clone version was killed by Darth Vader and your metal legged version fought Obi-Wan and was shot in the head by Lars.
@BADWOLFRYAN1 yes they have books based thousands of years before episode one. check out "Darth Bane: Path of Destruction" it shows how the sith went from hundreds to the Rule of Two. and if you read "Darth Maul: Shadow Hunter" (i think thats the title) it is Darth Mauls missions right before episode 1. the books help make sense of the movies and tell you what happens in between the movies and all the secrets that the movies didnt have. You learn alot from the books
@teetertotter68 - Agreed. Maul died stupidly, and he would have lent a lot more presence than Dooku. Rod Hilton pointed out that Dooku having also died stupidly, it would have been better had Maul just lived through Episode III.
i liked maul too but come on .....cristopher lee best villan actor ever with loads of swordplay talent over his 60 odd years acting experience ,and he was in the Special forces! (not sure if it was the SAS ) but for a man his age at the time he played the count 80% of the swordplay was his . Astounding person :)
it pissed me off that quigon died so damn early honestly he shouldve been ordered to stand down and another master replace him as obiwans mentor just to spare him. i would have loved to see him fight anakin in episode 3 or even join dooku for that matter.
that 1 guy who was obi wan konibis master uhm isint he in the batman films he trains batman as like a ninja right idk i seen his face and thought of it just now
Darth Maul was a really interesting looking character, one that you easily could identify among other villians. However, the main problem was him not saying more than three lines in the entire movie. This made it difficult for the audience to understand his motives and what his persona was like.
@Juzz92 well i read up on him, and it says that someone else played his voice because George didnt like his voice for the part, and im pretty sure it was abitch to keep over lapping someones voice with his.
@TWOGUYS0NECAMERA But the script must have been written before the making of the movie. This means that they must have deleted a whole lot of scenes with Darth Maul talking because of the over-lapping-problem during the final editing.
6:06 when the make up artist hurt him i thought Maul would instantly kill him.

as much as i love darth maul, he was up against obi-wan, he stood no chance, dude even killed grievous, who collected lightsabers of fallen jedi AS A HOBBY. still though, wouldn't they have killed palpatine? i hate that guy, dooku, im alright with just because he uses makashi style.

Aggrevaine 1 year ago
@Aggrevaine he was just pointing out that the only people fighting in the originals were old, crippled, or new to it, so none were as good or energetic, even if they were trained by yoda

George Lucas had to kill Darth Maul...he must make the movie suck.
lamaya43 1 year ago
It was necessary for Maul to die. It was killing Maul that made Obi-Wan a full-fledged Jedi Knight.

I think that Dooku is the most stupid charecter of all Maul is much much beter choise
TheManowar95 1 year ago
@TheManowar95 i agree that dooku wasn't as good as maul. but you have to realize who played dooku. it was christopher lee. that guy is amazing and a legend. he's a really talented actor and i also liked him in lord of the rings when he played Saruman.
henf5671 1 year ago
@TheManowar95 I disagree

In the books maul wasn't dead, he came back with 2 mechanical legs but then was killed by a bounty hunter or Luke I think. But yeah Maul should be much stronger.
Zayne285 1 year ago
Obi Wan killed him
IronicSoul999 1 year ago
@IronicSoul999 Omg, did you even read my comment?? He didn't die when Obi-Wan cut him in half he lived and got 2 mechanical legs. He almost died 8 times then finally got killed by a bounty hunter. Noob.
Zayne285 1 year ago
You clearly didn't do you home work. His clone version was killed by Darth Vader and your metal legged version fought Obi-Wan and was shot in the head by Lars.
IronicSoul999 1 year ago
@IronicSoul999 Holy fuck man thats right. Sorry im the noob =( I forgot about that but yeah i read that a long time ago.

Anakin vs Darth Maul episode 2 would have been epic. If you read the books Maul was alot stronger than they make him look in this movie
MohammedJafar 1 year ago 18
@MohammedJafar There are star wars books? Were they before the movies?
BADWOLFRYAN1 1 year ago
@BADWOLFRYAN1 yes they have books based thousands of years before episode one. check out "Darth Bane: Path of Destruction" it shows how the sith went from hundreds to the Rule of Two. and if you read "Darth Maul: Shadow Hunter" (i think thats the title) it is Darth Mauls missions right before episode 1. the books help make sense of the movies and tell you what happens in between the movies and all the secrets that the movies didnt have. You learn alot from the books
MohammedJafar 1 year ago
@MohammedJafar It was shite that they killed him off so quick
Koeiwarriorsfan16 1 year ago
@Koeiwarriorsfan16 yeah. you have to read the books to learn about his missions before the 1st movie. They are awesome
MohammedJafar 1 year ago
@MohammedJafar Do you have a link to any ? im very lazy and dont know what to search :P

Episode 2 would've have been saved by Maul.
teetertotter68 1 year ago 3
@teetertotter68 - Agreed. Maul died stupidly, and he would have lent a lot more presence than Dooku. Rod Hilton pointed out that Dooku having also died stupidly, it would have been better had Maul just lived through Episode III.

i liked maul too but come on .....cristopher lee best villan actor ever with loads of swordplay talent over his 60 odd years acting experience ,and he was in the Special forces! (not sure if it was the SAS ) but for a man his age at the time he played the count 80% of the swordplay was his . Astounding person :)

Darth Maul fan from day 1, even before the movie, the movie just made me happier about it. :D

it pissed me off that quigon died so damn early honestly he shouldve been ordered to stand down and another master replace him as obiwans mentor just to spare him. i would have loved to see him fight anakin in episode 3 or even join dooku for that matter.

that 1 guy who was obi wan konibis master uhm isint he in the batman films he trains batman as like a ninja right idk i seen his face and thought of it just now

Darth Maul was a really interesting looking character, one that you easily could identify among other villians. However, the main problem was him not saying more than three lines in the entire movie. This made it difficult for the audience to understand his motives and what his persona was like.
Juzz92 1 year ago 24
@Juzz92 Some bad guys don't talk lol. Like the guy in gta 3
REALSLIK 1 year ago
@Juzz92 well i read up on him, and it says that someone else played his voice because George didnt like his voice for the part, and im pretty sure it was abitch to keep over lapping someones voice with his.
TWOGUYS0NECAMERA 1 year ago
@TWOGUYS0NECAMERA But the script must have been written before the making of the movie. This means that they must have deleted a whole lot of scenes with Darth Maul talking because of the over-lapping-problem during the final editing.
