Yes,this is my cousin. And I was only six when he passed away.He was always an up spirited person and he was amazing to me and all of our family.He was very popular and had a great life ahead of him. Thank God that we now have a black label on every antidepressant.

Depression includes the feelings of suicide. That is a fact. I have seen it myself in family members and friends with depression. The medication acts on the neurotransmitters seratonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine, all of which have been shown to influence depression. (There are more.) Since the medication affects this, the results could go either way. It's perfectly humane to try the medicine if it has the possibility to help. It is NEVER given against someone's will.

It is proven that antidepressants cause irrational behavior especially in young adults. I think your perception is a correct yet I believe you are trying to make a point are you not?

Yes it is very possible that this young man (with a bright future) might have been depressed and even had suicidal tendencies before taking the medication. I believe it is also possible that the meds drove the young man far enough to do something about it.

You said it and I tend to agree. I just don't believe in scaring people into getting help. As for the boy in this video what can truly be known about his situation? Nothing can be gained from a 34 second video and there are countless videos just like this one. Tricking persons via interventions, frightening them by saying "jail, institution, or death" and the worst atrocity, in my opinion, is each program claims their program is the only one that's right and will work: the staple of any cult

I think it is scary, the fact that these drugs found in kids a new market after the adult market was saturated. I think people should seek other options rather than visting a psychiatrist, who prescribes dangerous and useless drugs for unproven medical illness. It's a disgrace because there are many people suffering emotionally and they are misled to believe they are sick. And normal kids are being damaged, committing suicide and killing under the influence of these drugs. Psychiatry is a cult.

You're making blanket statements. I believe that each is an individual and needs to determine what will work for them. I think that both the psychiatric community and programs such as AA/NA, Narconon, Scientology are equally guilty in claiming their righteousness. And psychiatry is no more a cult than the DMV

Scientology is a cult. Psychiatry, whether you want to admit it or not, is a respected field of medicine. If you feel psychiatry is quackery, than by all means don't talk to a psychiatrist.  That doesn't change the fact that millions of people are helped by psychiatry/psychology.

I regret that this young man killed himself, truly tragic. However, can anyone show that psychiatric help was the cause of his actions?

The point is that many people, including minors don't have the option of not talking to psychiatrists. They are ordered to do what the quacks say by either their parents or the courts. Also, Psychiatry and Psychology are different. Psychology primarily uses talk therapy. Psychiatry uses drugs. It doesn't matter is million are helped by psychiatrists if many millions more are hurt and/or killed. And yes, there is proof that antidepressants can kill.

Thanks, I know the difference between the two fields. This young man was not force to see a psychiatrist against his will, and you know it. Your point is moot. I am sorry this young man killed himself, however, he had a problem with depression. You can no more prove that any mediacation drove him to do it, than I can fly.

Finally, feel free to provide any proof that "many millions" of people are hurt by psychiatry. No more sob stories, just some hard facts.

Psychiatry is the only field of medicine where the practitioners are unable to accurately diagnose or successfully treat their patients, because no definitive diagnostical tests exist, and the pharmaceutical treatment options provide very limited improvement, at best.

Millions ARE helped by psychology, far fewer by psychiatry - which relies on medications which are barely more efficacious than placebo, with side effects which DO include suicidal ideation and behaviour.
