How come people do not look at individual personality rather than outer appearance. These hair style like brize really suits to the black female as their natural beauty.....How come natural beauty has to adjusted to straightning their hair and etc for being beautiful. I think they are already pretty...current black female's fashions are getting too moderate....not like they used to be...Natural is the best.
uhm.... i meet some black girls that don't have boob's but they have a butt or somtimes the other way around, or nothing at all. and i have black friends.
@Bluntples You have no idea...heritage is important to people who have had their heritage and everything else ripped from them. You are as ignorant as the people who actually inflicted these atrocities upon millions of people.
Every American has a lineage from another continent!........Read!...The only pure Americans are the American Indians......Blacks were indeed transported here from Africa making them unequivocally African first and American last!..............
I'm glad I don't have kids. I wouldn't know what the hell to tell them about this world at large. I don't remember this being the case so much in the 70s when Black consciousness was alive. Little girls wore puff ponies. The focus was on the contents of character and your IQ more than skin color. Maybe it's just where I'm from or me. Videos like this remind me of how blessed I was growing up. Black aesthetics are not exempt from the ignorance of this world. Inside the community and outside also.
Stop giving dark skinned girls european looking dolls. There are plenty out there heck there is even african barbie. The best doll to get is American Girl because they have a childs body not a hyper idealized body. Oh please I am white I was told I needed to tan myself and that I had fat legs and pitiful boobs (im pear shaped).
I often thought that it was pointless for black people to learn about their heritage. Sure, their genes started somewhere else, but they're American now. What more should matter?
Then it hit me: I know where I came from. Most Euro-Americans can find their lineage just by digging a bit. And honestly, if I didn't know what part of the country my ancestors hailed from, I'd feel like I'd been born in a void and didn't have any identity of my own, just what other Americans gave me. That'd suck.
Reminder Blacks did not chose their identification to be African American. It was what the Whites termed up for them, just like having Arab Americans. The first name identifies where roots originally came from and the second term Americans is what they now are! So, this is why you get African (roots:history) Americans (now).
Oh my gosh, the answers given by some of the children as to why they chose one doll over another were truly disturbing Q: "And why does it look bad?" A: Because it's black." This coming from black children themselves. This is truly disturbing.
Wow..This type of stuff should be talked about much more.. This reminds me of when I was little and lived in an apartment area and I had a friend who was black who told me she wished she was white...
I havent really realised it was an issue before this document though..This is a real eye opener. there should be more positive images of dark skinned people, instead of all the gangsta stereotypes and stuff... Before I used to think racism was not really a current issue, or at least not in the US or Europe. I mean I knew there were some people who were racist but I thought they were few and far between...
@chefawkes Well, I havent met many racist people... Most people are against racism if you ask them. Also I can only name one person who would say that they have been discriminated against by their race...But I guess people are all a little racist in some way... Also, how do you know im white? there are people of different races in Finland too you know.
i assumed you were white cuz findland is mostly white. but yes you are right that most ppl would say they are against racism if you ask them. the thing is, racism has changed and became way more subtle. i know plenty of people that have some black friends, and admire black athletes, but when a black person is in the news about a robbery, they roll their eyes and go "typical, a black guy". whereas if the robber is white, no one says anything.
wow! the doll test really got me! Im a white women, so by no means can I pretend to understand, however, I cant help but feel sorry for these children whom are seemingly being brain washed at such a young age to think that they're not beautiful or a good person. How very sad.
I think it is pointless and counterproductive when black people try to identify themselves as Africans when they are in fact American. You never see a white people call themselves European-Americans or identify themselves as being European. Except when you get those people who think they are Irish; I know actual Irish people and hate when people do this. Your lineage from hundreds of years ago has nothing to do with who you are as a person. We are Americans.
hehe true. I think you will see the term "African American" fade away in the next few decades, just like the terms "negro" and "colored" did (which were once PREFERRED by black Americans. The term "BLACK" was once considered offensive!)
Many people in the world think the Americans are retarded for using the term "African - American" . It is interesting that the term itself is supporting a STEREOTYPE in the USA that everyone in Africa is black, which is ridiculous.

Black people have never been American. Listen to any Malcolm X speech on the subject and you will notice how significant it still is for the present days.
Besides, if black people migrated voluntarily to the US, you would be right, but we were STOLEN. Therefore, all black people should contribute to the development of Africa. Most of us will never think like that, though.
i think people do that because knowing where u came from helps to explain where u are in your life.a lot of these african americans pretty much got a late start in life having to rise above slavery and racism and still stereotypes.this explains why there's a lot of african americans still living in poverty and are still brainwashed by ideas of white supremacy.i agree though that it shouldn't determine your future , it just helps to explain the present.
@Bluntples that is ridiculous. European-Americans have a culture, blacks have had to create subcultures out of oppression. We, blacks, have no heritage. We have adopted Europeans religion, and creed. a person does not know who they fully are, unless they know where they came from.
@antoniowalker11 blacks do have a heritage its funny that we think we just know how to dance naturally we have a heritage we dont recognize it is all.
@PonZiffy agreed. People like Bluntples are loudmouths who don;t know the difference between culture and citizenship. American is not a culture or an ethnicity, it refers to anybody who is a citizen of the USA. You can't be proud of your "American heritage", there's no such thing. I was born and raised here, and so were my parents, but we are proud of where we came from
@Bluntples - But where in Africa? Africa is a continent, not a country. Think about it. White people can pinpoint what country and culture they come from, as you already pointed out. But a black person in America basically has no culture, except for the native indians. America is a conglomerate of different cultures, different people. What is your background? Many black people cannot answer that for themselves. Being shipped to America isn't something to be proud of, nor does it pinpoint culture
@ariamorte but to assume that africans brought no culture is not only wrong but very ignorant considering much of what we call american culture is african,,from the way we cook to the way we talk all americans
@ariamorte This is not true I see plenty of american looking up to find out where they are from. You find this more in poor to lower middle class. This goes double for people with white slaves ancestors in America (yeah they existed). I know my heritage because my grandmother is obsessed with family trees she likes history. Also so called italian americans most of them cant speak Italian or just a few words so they have lost their language.
@Bluntples What do you mean "pointless and counterproductive" ?? I don't think black people are trying to prove a "point" when they call themselves African.. it's called having a sense ETHNICITY. If you were a visible minority youd get it. All that makes you "American" is your citizenship. If you were a visible minority you'd relate to where you came from too. You're a white person living in a historically white country. Yes, many people identify with where they came from and are proud of it.
@Bluntples . I just stumbled across this comment. I just wanted to let you know that the term African American is different from saying your from a country with in Africa. The culture of slaves was stripped from them. Shoould they call themselves "Former inslaved Americans." Would that be more accurate? At least most white people can pinpoint where they came from. That's a blessing. Lineage has everything to do with who you are as a person. Lineage is where culture originates.
@Bluntples well in my case I find it important to identify as African because my mother is directly from Tanzania and my father directly from Nigeria. You must be speaking of African-Americans who don't know their direct lineage (their parents came from this state, who's parents and grandparents came from another state...etc.) I was born and raised in America but NOT in the american culture. Sure I am influenced being a product of this country but I grew up with a different culture 24/7
Part 3: because in the social structure of America (and the world in general) Whites are considered superior to People of Colour and this is magnified with regards to Blacks. Therefore, the European component of the term European American becomes 'silent' because it is understood when the term American is used it is referring to a White person. You may think that all the different Americans are just Americans but Black America knows otherwise.
Part 2: it is important to them to have their own identity that, they as black people have chosen, rather than an identity assigned to them by mainstream (White) America. Your past is important for it formed your present and thus the African heritage is important to Black America. White America has no need to refer to themselves as European Americans;
Part 1: Of course you think it is pointless and counterproductive for the black people of America to identify with Africans because you're not black and therefore, have no knowledge/experience of blackness in America or the world at large. Black people and White people do not live in the same America as you might have imagined. In a land where black people are at best tolerated;
@Bluntples They really mean that they are Americans of African descent. I suppose you have never heard of Italian Americans, Polish Americans, Irish Americans, etc., etc. With all due respect, you are ignorant! As Malcolm X said, "If a cat has babies in the oven, you do not call the babies biscuits."
@Bluntples European-Americans an option and choose not to. It is about having the option; this is what freedom in America affords in all other avenues. This is similar to the confusion a person who was adopted has. When you don't know anything about your past you are constantly searching for it and would like the option to just call yourself an American. A shadow over your identity is not a denial of who you are today, but a deeper understanding of how your family came to be an American.
@Bluntples the first europeans were not white, but whites are from europe eventually. anyways i am black and i have no idea why they tell me i am african american. what do u think we should call ourseleves

I agree with the girl at 5:47. There is an unexplainable 'missing' part from my life, and this is possibly because I have no clue of exactly where I came from, whereas most of my friends can pinpoint where they came from and/or get genealogy tests to figure out this information. I have nothing.
@adamsonxxfifteen I am presuming you are talking about white friends. I think if you investigated it further you would find that they are "choosing" their heritage and picking the ones that they find most appealing to them. I am an old white man and I laugh when people start telling me their family lines saying they are 1/4 this and 1/8 that when I know that it is all a bunch of baloney. Past is nothing, only shadows - the important things are your family now and in the future.
@7tnorris nothing wrong in wanting to know your heritage. Even stubborn old men should know this. What if i told you my family found extended family in Italy who we've met and visited and vice versa with them and are now our real family? This itself contradicts your entire post. And as for mine...Its true.
@kiba2468 Wow, I guess I do sound like a stubborn old man! Thanks for the mirror check. You are very lucky that you have discovered distant family members in Europe and have contact with them. Very cool and kinda rare for an American to do this. I don't see it as a contradiction to my posts though - I am talking about the average Joe in the USA and your case is rather unusual.
White girls want to be darker skinned too. I raised one and when she was ten years old she told me that she wished that she was "mixed". You have to look at both ends of the spectrum. That also goes for the "baby test" which has no control groups and the ones shown appear to be led. Don't get me wrong, the young lady did well for a High School level documentary and you can't do much in seven minutes. I hope she doesn't take the "Michael Moore approach" in her next film.

The last child interviewed was blaming slavery on the fact that she has no heritage. Does she think whites in America today know exactly where there ancestors came from? Somebody needs to tell her that white people have such a mixed linage in America that we have no idea where we came from either. If she wants a "country of origin" in Africa then she needs to do what the white people do and that is to "pick your favorite".
No one alive today had anything to do with slavery in America.

There is a difference between having ancestors who chose to come to this country because it gave them freedom vs. ancestors who were forced into this country to be slaves. As a white American, I have to be careful to not forget that. Doing so is the equivalent of denying the ramifications of the Holocaust on Jews. It's false and ultimately unproductive.
I still have to disagree from a personal perspective. History that is not part of my time or existence is merely academic. They are interesting stories but I am not going to get emotional about the Fall of the Roman Empire, the Holocaust of the Jews, the Battle of Hastings, the Spanish American War or even slavery in America. None of these events had anything to do with me. I did not "choose" to come to this country. I just "appeared here" one day from my perspective.
as a child, I recall wanting hair like the black girls in my class, the beads the braids, the styles!!! All I had was a plain dumb ponytail. When I was about 10, I thought, darker brown the skin, the more powerful the person, or stronger. Its funny how as a child you come to certain conclusions. Once a very light skinned girl told me I wasnt allowed to play w/her & her black barbies Oh, I was hurt &offended I threw all my white barbies away because of her...Children are so impressionable.

@ Miss Ziegler, I often wonder the same thing @ are we as black people cursed...But then I contemplate on how The Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade remains one of the worse institutions in history, as the after effects still remain to date. Why are some able to heal and get beyond what was done to us and our ancestors and others not? I pray God that we are able to heal as a race and be good to ourselves the way so many other races are.
Why am I not surprised? Sometimes I tend to think that the black race has been cursed in the far past or something. What went wrong with our people? I am not african american but I am african and what pains me the most while watching this documentary is that some Africans are way more brainwashed than some african americans. We have the same issues in the African community, if not worse. It i disgusting!
This was a great documentary, but I wish they wouldn't just focus on African Americans. I feel like black girls from the Caribbean (like myself) always get ignored in things like this.
THANK YOU.there was one yter that had a doc that mainly interviewed caribbeans ( b/c that's who was around her) someone commented and said "umm how about you interview americans who actually know about this stuff" or something like that. ugh
in india place close to where i come from ..... we have both dark and light skin in our families .... now i have liked girls of both types and i dont see a different ...... clearly skin is not the only proof of a good mate .... and a partner for life ....now dont u think .....
i just watched a docu on the racism in the Inian Culture. As a white American this was eyeopening. My boss is Indian and clearly has race issues w/in his own culture that I wish I understood..
The human race evolved from East African 150,000 years ago. This is a scientific UNDISPUTED FACT.
The more the whole world realises we are all African by heritage (and not from a Jew/Iraqi named Adam), the better racial relations we will have
Being black (or white) isnt anything to be proud of.(be proud of your achievements only. If you achieved being black then fair enuf). It isnt anything to be ashamed of either. Its neutral. It is institutional racism that trys to convince us otherwise
Funny story - one of my friends grew up in Africa for a few years before moving to Scotland, and her mum still has an obvious accent and slightly darker skin, and my friend has this other friend who also has African roots, and she went to her house one day in a maxi dress and she had her afro out and my mate's mum was like "I love your friend; she's so ethnic! ... Why don't you dress like that?"
Now I don't agree with the ending about the young girl talking about feeling misplaced because they don't know their culture. I say keep it simple. You are an American. All americans excluding the native americans come from somewhere else. I think this "African American, Hispanic American, Asian American" is a bunch of confusing hogwash. Embrace your culture but quit segregating yourself by adding a title.
How sad that those little kids would identify the dark doll as being bad and the white doll being the nicest. You know the old cliche beauty comes from within, well it does. A person who feels good about themselves reflects it in their face, the way they conduct themselves regardless of what color they are. That makes them attractive on the other hand I've seen beautiful people with ugly personalities and after the initial ooo ahhh people avoid them.

THIS SHIT HAS HAPPENED 2 ALL OF US AND IT'S GOING ON RITE NOW WITH US AND OUR CHILDREN!!! TAKE A LOOK AROUND, NOW GO PICK UP A BOOK KALLED LUV THYSELF!!! ~aSHE'
It was so chilling to watch years and years of training in self-hatred manifest themselves so bluntly. This film is so clever, and is absolutely necessary.
Your methodology for doing the testing did not seem creditable, and I feel that you viewed this theory in such a micro-view (use of people that live in an area of majority black). Though I must admit that I do not know the exact methods used to come to the conclusion, so my response could be out of ignorance.
yeah i though after i said that stuff but still i would like to know the methods used for the testing. I addition i would like to say everyone is beautiful because beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
I think parents need to invest in finding out where their family comes from and start inculcating that heritage. I believe that everyone should be proud of their heritage and enjoy each other.
Can we get a documentary on just how different tribes in Africa look so that AAs can see similiar features in their families. Also, what about DNA? Families can invest in at least one male being tested for the whole family. Let's get busy to fix this thing!!

How is it being "taught"? They've just learned to talk and you think it's been taught? It's only the effects of multiculturalism. This is just another reason why we need to separate the races. This way blacks can be blacks in their own country. Instead of being in a white country with a mulatto president who isn't even a descendant of a slave!
It's being taught everytime some white person on a commercial flings around their hair and is called beautiful. Or when the black person is potrayed as loud and ignorant & the white is potrayed as fun loving & witty. Which is more often than not. Or when Beyonce, Halle and Alicia Keys are adored but India Arie never gets a headline. That's how it's being taught. If it isn't being taught, then why isn't it the other way around. I would be shocked to see even 1 white kid pick the black doll.

Interesting, I found a post where you actually make some sense.
Or all those commercials where they portray white people as cavemen, while portraying negros as uber macho criminals. It works both ways. Which has more effect on a negress' self esteem, some white DJ exclaiming the nappiness of their hair? Or Queen Le Queefa with her blonde wig? You're right to a point, but where you fail is that you think this is because of white people. No. White people never voted in favor of desegregation.
What video was that? Blacks only wanted desegregation, because we thought that fair treatment would ensue. Not necessarily cause we just wanted to be around whites. Whites control the images we see everyday. Why don't you see images of black women with natural hair instead of sista's (Beyonce) on commercial's sportin' long blonde weaves?? "Blondes have more fun!", being spewed across the airwaves. Please. This crap is being subliminally ingrained left and right and you know it.
And Obama was black before he was elected. Funny how he all of a sudden became un black when he was elected. Esp. when he even calls himself black. lol He may not be the descendant of a slave but he's still African. And his wife sure as hell is a slave descendant. So you STILL have a black person in the white house. Deal with it.

I don't have to "deal" with anything because having a nigger as president is the best thing that's happened to us in a long time. It will be even better when the economy goes from bad to worse because of his failed policies.
I thought you said Obama wasn't black. Therefore how could he be a "nigger"? Your ignorant, missing teeth, I don't like to shower, jealous of black's that's why I hate them unprovoked, lying, KKK wanna be is showing. LOL You act like Obama started your economic problems. I'm not saying he's helping, but you white people dug this bottomless pit yourselves. Typical cave puppies. Don't wanna be responsible for your own actions and blame blacks for everything.
I bet if you nicked yourself shaving or spilled your milk, it would be a black person's fault wouldn't it dirtyboy...?? LOL You haters wanna say Obama isn't black now but mulatto, just cause he won. But I bet once your countries economony disentigrates, which will be 95% WHITE PEOPLE's fault and maybe 5% Obama, I bet he'll be black then. For all you ignorant, housenigger non black "mulattos/biracial/multiracial" people, watch and see.
And I don't say house nigger's cause your light or have wavy hair, I say it because you hate the black in you but would gladly accept being white. YOU ARE BLACK. Obama will be a MULATTO as long as he makes masa happy but when Obama's horn's show, then he'll be a nigger again. And just like in slavery, you self hating house nigger's allow your masa to divide and conquer. "No nigger, your not black, your MULATTO.", says your master. We're gonna see in the end. LOL

If you have one drop of nigger blood in you, you're a nigger. The rest of your ramblings are just you putting words in my mouth and not worth my time commenting on as I don't think them.
Was I putting words in your mouth when I said you were a kkk wanna be, cave puppy, who doesn't want to be responsible for your own failures, so your only option is to blame black people? Or sometimes Hispanics. CASEY ANTHONY! lol Good. At least you admit you know exactly what and how your kind are. lol If you had a brain, then you'd know that the last part of my posting wasn't even to you. IF you had a brain. lol
Umm... yea. You go and insult me some more and I'll just sit here and yawn. And yes, you're still putting words in my mouth, you just do not possess the IQ to realize it.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
If you possessed an IQ, then you wouldn't keep writing me after the conversation was long over and you were long ago defeated. While your yawning, make sure you open wide enough for a big black *ick to go down your throat. It's been a few days and your long over due.
I can understand what it's like not knowing where you come from, and while I can see how it would appear to be a loss of self and a limiting factor in your life, I think in reality this absence of pre-defined self-imagery frees you to find your true self. To go beyond culture and explore being human in a clearer way.
It's sad that so many young children feel this way, but on the other hand, it's heartwarming to know this state of affairs is the result of breaking down racial barriers; progress.
This is really upsetting to me since I when I was a baby- I loved black dolls! The children are probably effected to think in such a way due to the media's emphasis on light/white beauty- I don't think its something that cannot be fixed. Black is beautiful.
This soooo scary in 2008. The black doll is "bad" and it looks like me! What are we teaching our children and what are we doing to counteract the negative imagery that they are faced with everyday about themselves?? It makes my heart bleed.
This is outrageously sad and confusing. I have always been taught to be proud and my family is full of different colors but we all know we are beautiful. This is interesting because I never wanted to play with white dolls when I was a child and I remember at day care a black girl had a white doll and I was shocked. I guess because my dad is from Mozambique I know the African culture is beautiful. To me nothing is more beautiful than being brown.
Seriously though, the children must not be getting the encouragement to be proud of who they are. If the media constantly portrays the white person to be attractive, then isn't it up to the parents to combat that? From what i've seen (im in the UK btw) many do, but i don't know what it's like in america. It would be interesting to do the same study on black African kids and see if it differs. I think it partially depends on the number of black people around, and wanting to fit in.
I found it disturbing how most of the kids pointed out the white doll. I don't see why that's the case to be honest. Most people want something like themselves. The question to ask is, are people of one 'race' generally attracted to people of the same race, or is there a randomness about it? Do white ppl find black people unattractive, or do they just choose not to because of racist culture? I'm mixed and personally, i find myself attracted to mixed girls more than both, but then black, white
Great video. SO profound that young ladies are pointing this out to us. This thinking actually was taught to the slaves by a horrible man by the name of Willie Lynch (google and read).
Wow, what a powerful video. Great job! I hope you are promoting these types of films in your school system so you can bring awareness of the feelings that go along with racism and self hate.
But truly it doesnt matter who and what we look like on the outside it's the person on the inside. (Corny,...I know, but it's true. Love who you are and celebrate your life and help others to find that. The ignorant ones are scared.
he said: "zz... we know blacks are ugly .. and they know it too .... who cares ? let them date more of them monkey selves and create more monkey like babies ..."
Owh man!! this is aweful!! ~ that test... 1st the little girls says the brown doll is bad, and then she says that she looks the most like the bad doll, I think i could see the pain in her eyes...
wow...I'm hispanic and I understand what you are talking about...I know that in the US for sure...media represents blond hair blue eyed women hot and sexy...it's kinda bothersome because here I am with dark brown curly(unruly) hair and dark brown eyes...and I'm not exactly as light skinned as white people are...right now I live in a place where hispanics are a majority...so I don't see it much
I'm black British and have often wondered why our community is the only Immigrant community to the UK who as a majority are unsuccessful. It's because of our attitudes. An example of this is Beyonce, if she wasn't light with a blonde wig would she getting so much attention? The answer is blatantly no, we see light skin and good (straight) hair as better. We need to stop and take a long hard look at ourselves before anyone else will begin to take us seriously.
zzz... we know blacks are ugly .. and they know it too .... who cares ? let them date more of them monkey selves and create more monkey like babies ...
Look, all I was doing (xchemicalromantics) was stating my opinion. I CAN read, I DO know more than what History books and television tell me, thanks. Don't accuse when you don't know who you're accusing & you don't have a logical reason for it. I stated my opinion, not meaning for it to blow up and SOMEONE to get pissed off. You have your opinions, okay? I have mine as well >Freedom of Speech, alright? It works.
ppl arent used to anything different, i recently started wearing my hair in a fro, ppl acted like i was a dif person, but hair, or skin color, has nothing to do with how a person is
This is a timely video. At 51, I lived through desegregation and am watching in horror as that trend is being reversed. Our young people must be made aware of what they are losing so that they can fight back before it's too late!
My boyfriend is Swedish, that's a Blond part of the world, and he does not feel that taking any race and putting them in a category is acceptable.
Don't blame where you're from for how you think.
By the way, I am Black, and I have to say this video is just heartbreaking. I would never raise my children to feel they were lower than the Blond next door, or higher than the African across the street for being mixed.
i love black people and black culture. i've seen kids with their minds programmed with this bulls*it. one time a dark skinned 10 yr old girl broke down in my arms crying cuz her light sister called her a "black dog". dark skin is beautiful to me so i was like "wow!? that is bizzare! (and very sad)" the biggest attraction is when someone believes and knows they are beautiful. we are the ones that tell them what beauty is!
I am a white girl. I have always felt that BLACK IS MORE BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!! Darker skin is beautiful. I am white and pasty and I was made fun of for it most my life. as of late I have felt fine about the way I look, I was born this way. I AM WHAT I AM. the color of someone's skin IS NOT WHAT MAKES THEM BEAUTIFUL -NOR ANY OTHER PHYSICAL FEATURE!!!!! it is their soul their arua, the way they hold themselves, confidence!!!
So so sad..... I feel sorry for androgenix. I mean he is beyond saving; "black people have more common looks" - what the fuck does this mean?
when you step back and analize what is really going on, what is really happening in the world.... we really are just mayflies. Our short time on this earth is not worth worring about how much melanin is in someone's genetics....its ridiculous!!!
" AM WHAT I AM. the color of someone's skin IS NOT WHAT MAKES THEM BEAUTIFUL -NOR ANY OTHER PHYSICAL FEATURE!!!!! it is their soul their arua, the way they hold themselves, confidence!!!" i wish others would think that way, just like india arie: "i am not my hair, i am not my skin, i am the soul that lives within"

I think many of these black girls was pretty. My personal opinion is that blacks have more "common looks", there are fewer at the top and bottom, while whites range more from butt ugly to stunningly beutiful. Nothing beats the beuty of a blonde like my own girlfriend, but noone is as ugly as that white old cow next door. But thats taste, i guess.
It brings shame to my race as well (the respectable whites at least), and I'll admit that it makes me angry that people are leaving negative comments about my race when I myself and, as I said, many others did nothing to deserve said comments. That is all I was trying to get acros sin half of these comments.
I must admit that you do have a valid point, and you are completely correct in saying that it is an extremely hard thing to overcome, I just dont' see how I, a white person, and many other white people, can still be blamed every single passing day for blacks being so looked down upon.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
And nowhere in my opinionated comment did I blame the fact that they brought it upon themselves on slavery. Sure, that could be an example, and you are absolutely correct when you call whites ignorant for creating slavery, but there is still MUCH proof out there that black people did, in fact, bring what people think of them upon themselves.
I respect your opinion, but there is really no reason to argue about this...
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
But xchemical.... if you can admit that slavery was the creation of ignorant white people, can you imagine that many of the problems black people face (and even the crimes they commit) could be in some way attributed to the fact that their ancestors and relative were ENSLAVED by another group of people, BASED ON THEIR RACE? Do you think that this is a circumstance that is easy to overcome for a person?
So while you may be able to say that there is a noticeable trend in african-american-related crime and whatnot, it isn't logical to think that they bought that purely upon themselves considering the background they were coming from. Have some humanity and be rational.

These hair style like brize really suits to the black female as their natural beauty.....How come natural beauty has to adjusted to straightning their hair and etc for being beautiful. I think they are already pretty...current black female's fashions are getting too moderate....not like they used to be...Natural is the best.

JanetteMorgan 1 year ago
TO: BLUNTPLES
Reminder Blacks did not chose their identification to be African American. It was what the Whites termed up for them, just like having Arab Americans. The first name identifies where roots originally came from and the second term Americans is what they now are! So, this is why you get African (roots:history) Americans (now).

I havent really realised it was an issue before this document though..This is a real eye opener. there should be more positive images of dark skinned people, instead of all the gangsta stereotypes and stuff... Before I used to think racism was not really a current issue, or at least not in the US or Europe. I mean I knew there were some people who were racist but I thought they were few and far between...

i assumed you were white cuz findland is mostly white. but yes you are right that most ppl would say they are against racism if you ask them. the thing is, racism has changed and became way more subtle. i know plenty of people that have some black friends, and admire black athletes, but when a black person is in the news about a robbery, they roll their eyes and go "typical, a black guy". whereas if the robber is white, no one says anything.

Bluntples 2 years ago 32

Peace.

i think people do that because knowing where u came from helps to explain where u are in your life.a lot of these african americans pretty much got a late start in life having to rise above slavery and racism and still stereotypes.this explains why there's a lot of african americans still living in poverty and are still brainwashed by ideas of white supremacy.i agree though that it shouldn't determine your future , it just helps to explain the present.

TheUFOnetwork 1 year ago
@Bluntples . I just stumbled across this comment. I just wanted to let you know that the term African American is different from saying your from a country with in Africa. The culture of slaves was stripped from them. Shoould they call themselves "Former inslaved Americans." Would that be more accurate? At least most white people can pinpoint where they came from. That's a blessing. Lineage has everything to do with who you are as a person. Lineage is where culture originates.
foxroxy86 9 months ago

Intervalintime 7 months ago
@Bluntples
Part 2: it is important to them to have their own identity that, they as black people have chosen, rather than an identity assigned to them by mainstream (White) America. Your past is important for it formed your present and thus the African heritage is important to Black America. White America has no need to refer to themselves as European Americans;
Intervalintime 7 months ago
@Bluntples
Part 1: Of course you think it is pointless and counterproductive for the black people of America to identify with Africans because you're not black and therefore, have no knowledge/experience of blackness in America or the world at large. Black people and White people do not live in the same America as you might have imagined. In a land where black people are at best tolerated;
Intervalintime 7 months ago
@Bluntples They really mean that they are Americans of African descent. I suppose you have never heard of Italian Americans, Polish Americans, Irish Americans, etc., etc. With all due respect, you are ignorant! tmhjahusa 4 months ago 2

I agree with the girl at 5:47. There is an unexplainable 'missing' part from my life, and this is possibly because I have no clue of exactly where I came from, whereas most of my friends can pinpoint where they came from and/or get genealogy tests to figure out this information. I have nothing.
adamsonxxfifteen 2 years ago
@adamsonxxfifteen I am presuming you are talking about white friends. I think if you investigated it further you would find that they are "choosing" their heritage and picking the ones that they find most appealing to them. I am an old white man and I laugh when people start telling me their family lines saying they are 1/4 this and 1/8 that when I know that it is all a bunch of baloney. Past is nothing, only shadows - the important things are your family now and in the future.

MBushek 2 years ago
I still have to disagree from a personal perspective. History that is not part of my time or existence is merely academic. They are interesting stories but I am not going to get emotional about the Fall of the Roman Empire, the Holocaust of the Jews, the Battle of Hastings, the Spanish American War or even slavery in America. None of these events had anything to do with me. I did not "choose" to come to this country. I just "appeared here" one day from my perspective.

Now I don't agree with the ending about the young girl talking about feeling misplaced because they don't know their culture. I say keep it simple. You are an American.

Can we get a documentary on just how different tribes in Africa look so that AAs can see similiar features in their families. Also, what about DNA? Families can invest in at least one male being tested for the whole family. Let's get busy to fix this thing!!

No. White people never voted in favor of desegregation.
dirtyboy830 2 years ago
What video was that? Blacks only wanted desegregation, because we thought that fair treatment would ensue. Not necessarily cause we just wanted to be around whites. Whites control the images we see everyday. Why don't you see images of black women with natural hair instead of sista's (Beyonce) on commercial's sportin' long blonde weaves?? Umm... yea. You go and insult me some more and I'll just sit here and yawn. And yes, you're still putting words in my mouth, you just do not possess the IQ to realize it.

XooxerX 3 years ago
This is really upsetting to me since I when I was a baby- I loved black dolls! The children are probably effected to think in such a way due to the media's emphasis on light/white beauty- I don't think its something that cannot be fixed. Black is beautiful.

I'm shocked by the new doll experiment. How do these kids think those things at such a young age?
ajs41 3 years ago 3

Invertedzero 3 years ago

Great job young ladies!!

All the best,

wow...I'm hispanic and I understand what you are talking about...I know that in the US for sure...media represents blond hair blue eyed women hot and sexy...it's kinda bothersome because here I am with dark brown curly(unruly) hair and dark brown eyes...and I'm not exactly as light skinned as white people are...right now I live in a place where hispanics are a majority...so I don't see it much
Society can be really fucked up
pitousa13 4 years ago
I'm black British and have often wondered why our community is the only Immigrant community to the UK who as a majority are unsuccessful. It's because of our attitudes. An example of this is Beyonce, if she wasn't light with a blonde wig would she getting so much attention? The answer is blatantly no, we see light skin and good (straight) hair as better. We need to stop and take a long hard look at ourselves before anyone else will begin to take us seriously.

Don't accuse when you don't know who you're accusing & you don't have a logical reason for it. I stated my opinion, not meaning for it to blow up and SOMEONE to get pissed off. You have your opinions, okay? I have mine as well >Freedom of Speech, alright? It works.

This is a timely video. At 51, I lived through desegregation and am watching in horror as that trend is being reversed. Our young people must be made aware of what they are losing so that they can fight back before it's too late!

To androgenix,
My boyfriend is Swedish, that's a Blond part of the world, and he does not feel that taking any race and putting them in a category is acceptable.

ThatBitchEve 4 years ago 3
Beauty is way more than skin deep! It's such a shame that people are so concerned over skin colour.
I'm sorry you all have to go through so much.

That is all I was trying to get acros sin half of these comments.
xchemicalromantics 4 years ago 5
I must admit that you do have a valid point, and you are completely correct in saying that it is an extremely hard thing to overcome, I just dont' see how I, a white person, and many other white people, can still be blamed every single passing day for blacks being so looked down upon.
xchemicalromantics 4 years ago

And nowhere in my opinionated comment did I blame the fact that they brought it upon themselves on slavery. Sure, that could be an example, and you are absolutely correct when you call whites ignorant for creating slavery, but there is still MUCH proof out there that black people did, in fact, bring what people think of them upon themselves.
I respect your opinion, but there is really no reason to argue about this...
xchemicalromantics 4 years ago
This comment has received too many negative votes show
But xchemical.... if you can admit that slavery was the creation of ignorant white people, can you imagine that many of the problems black people face (and even the crimes they commit) could be in some way attributed to the fact that their ancestors and relative were ENSLAVED by another group of people, BASED ON THEIR RACE? Do you think that this is a circumstance that is easy to overcome for a person?
Weezebumble 4 years ago
So while you may be able to say that there is a noticeable trend in african-american-related crime and whatnot, it isn't logical to think that they bought that purely upon themselves considering the background they were coming from. Have some humanity and be rational.

Yes, there is proof. Very much of it, in fact. Now, I'm not syaing that white people are just perfect little saints, because that is a blatant lie. I take absolutely no pride in the color that I am, so please, do not think that I was making black people
